The concept of “common good” should be viewed as a threat or warning. There is no common good when it is mandatory. Thank you for stimulating that thought in my brain.

I always saw the "common good" as what was good for the commons. This is a part of every societal structure. Littering on your property is OK, but littering in the public park is not. Your property is not the commons, and the "common good" does not apply. In that line of thought, confiscating part of your property for redistribution has nothing to do with the "common good" since your personal property is not part of the commons. Common Good thus refers to the responsibility that we as individuals have for the maintenance and improvement of the "commons", be it property, schools, police, utilities, etc.
