Guess what happened after the monopoly was destroyed?
Or the years before that when you rented your phone forever from Bell telephone, and had a party-line. My grandmother rented her phone for upwards of 45 years. Thousands of dollars into the monopoly with nothing to show for it.
Not to mention the loss of Bell Labs.
