A "glass half-empty kind of person" is a realist : ) I hope you are right about AI although there has never been a tool of control and profit that was not abused by the powerful. I would be glad to find an exception.
I have absolutely zero doubt that the powerful have every intention of using this extremely powerful tool to abuse us, yes. And they'll succeed to at least some extent.
My hope, bordering on belief, is that is it actually so powerful that they won't be able to control it, or us. That we could actually harness its power for ourselves.
