Your statements are true and 1 solution doesn't work for everyone. The best financial advice I've heard recently was to diversify, not in terms of various stocks or bonds but in terms of hard assets: real estate, cash, precious metals, perhaps some stocks in the right sector. Even stocking up on durable goods that you use. We all have to be creative about our own situations. There are risks in everything. Perhaps the idea is to find what is least risky for you. Forums like this are great for getting ideas.

I try not to get overwhelmed thinking 'they are decades ahead of us'. Everything and everyone has their achilles heel. Keep a level head, try not to panic, recognize and seize opportunities and you'll be ahead.

After these past three years and the 7 preceding dealing with FATCA/FBAR and the rest, I am thinking finding a good reliable source of clean water and land hidden away somewhere is the best option. A year ago I could not take my child to a public restroom because it was QR CODE ONLY and I do not behave an idiot phone that is one of three requirements to use the toilet. Imagine when they merge that with ESG and use it for controlling access to your banks, grocery store and gas pump.

That's a good idea if you can manage it. You might like this video and the channel:

Most likely not. We own a house in a suburb of Tokyo. Wife is angry I bought seeds for micro greens. She is not at all onboard with any of this.

Homesteading is not really an option for me too. I'm over 60 and live alone. It's enough work fending off all the city invaders (racoons, mice, rats, ants etc) and trying to keep up with all other demands, I doubt I could make it on my own in the wilderness. I try the best I can to network with people around me, make friends who are like minded etc. We're all stronger together as even these discussion forums show.

Thankfully, we enjoy camping. Went this past Monday in fact. Have honed my fire making skills over the recent 2 years, camping being mostly prohibited for the first year of the panic.

I am in my 50s with my eldest kid being 9. If worst comes to worst, we can try roughing it, trading my fire light skills and use of my solar powered lights for help in trapping and gathering. In the mean time I am trying out micro greens for quick to grow food and how to purify water.
