I do not know why you used it. All I know is how it impacts someone who is close to me. If you cannot understand that, then I guess that there is no way that we can communicate. You would not use a racial slur, would you? Then don't use an ablelist slur--and that is exactly what it is. Yes, I found that term EXTREMELY, and unecessarily, offensive. The fact that you do not tells me 1) you yourself do not have a visible physical disability that others would categorize as "spazz" or "spastic" and that you do not have anyone in your family or anyone that you care about that likewise has such a disability. I'm asking for a bit of sensitivity and compassion here, is that asking too much?
That your sister has achieved a Ph.D., attests to her ability to deal with and fly above pejorative comments, whether aimed at her, or made in jest and not pointing to her cerebral palsy. She deserves great credit, as well for not taking on the added burden of others feeling offended "for her sake."
And your bigotry towards people with disabilities is showing. BIG TIME. Otherwise you would not call my objection a parody act. Well, I do not care to discuss ANYTHING further with someone who is as prejudiced as you. And yes, I AM calling you out on it. As for the people who supported me with your likes, THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
Hi Tam...I´m sorry your sister has suffered -- both with cerebral palsy and dealing with people who make fun. While I understand the impulse to let loose and say whatever we want, there´s a time and a place.
Thank you. However, if you read how others have replied to what I have said--and I'm not naming names here--it's not just my sister but myself who has been attacked in this manner. I've been told that I am a parody act, that I have pulled this routine before, that I am stamping off bravely after slamming the door and waiting for applause. While I have received a few likes for what I have said, I have not had ANYONE stand up to these bullies and bigots and call them out on their behavior, not Gato Malo, not anyone. And yes, they ARE bullies and bigots. The only good thing is that they have shown their true colors. However, much as I've enjoyed this particular substack I think it is time for me to leave because it is very obvious that people like myself are not welcome here. That is very sad--but I have better things to do with my time than to interact with known and admitted bigots and to stay in a place where said bigots are not challenged on their bigotry. Let's just say that there are certain people on here that I have ZERO respect for no matter what they say. When people are attacked not on the strength (or lack of) of their ideas but because others here judge them as being "spazzes" and "retards", and especially when such attacks are not being called out for what they are, then it is time for me to leave and go elsewhere.
I certainly don´t blame you, Tam, if you choose to leave but I think it´s unfortunate. These days I read a lot of Substacks that lean conservative, an interesting experience as a gay man. For the most part, people aren´t homophobic. Gato Malo, for instance, is not homophobic. But every once in a while someone will write something that I find offensive. It´s inevitable in a social setting where people are free to state their minds. We don´t all think the same -- to me, that´s the beauty of it. I take the good with the bad. People haven´t leapt to your defense but that doesn´t mean there aren´t compassionate folks here sympathetic to your view of things.
Kindly think why I used it.

Just my 2 cents.
