the flame out of the DHS “disinformation board” has, i fear, been somewhat exaggerated (possibly by design). it is neither dead nor gone.
sure, the spectacle of having chosen possibly the most memeable woman on earth with a petabyte sized social media presence proclaiming her astonishing partisan proclivities, unfitness for task, and outright dishonesty was something of a setback, but it has NOT ended this push nor even disqualified scary poppins dba/nina jankowicz herself from continuing her work on disinformation.
and as you can see, she’s quite good at it. she creates and spreads disinfo with the best of them while claiming to fight it. this is straight out of the goebbels playbook:
“always accuse your enemy of that which you are doing.”
this is a deliberate play to cause confusion and shift blame.
however, when one goes to this well too often, it becomes a roadmap of one’s own naughty deeds and inclinations.
so here we go again. again. (this is from yesterday, 5.23)
she speaks of having spent her career on work like “ensuring civil servants can recognize and know how to respond to hostile state disinfo.”
because if one is going to teach others to seek out and respond to disinfo, it would seem that the very least we might demand is that the aspirant demonstrate some ability to recognize it themselves instead of accepting it uncritically and amplifying it. (or worse, engaging in deliberate misinformation dressed up as fact checking)
oopsie.
as is now coming fully to light, this was a full blown, deliberate, manufactured disinfo campaign played at the highest levels to attempt to influence a US presidential election. (the ones nina claims need such protection)
hillary knew full well this was false and approved her underlings to leak it to media and went on full blown offense herself with a made up dossier of data and entirely invented notions of “foreign servers” (all while mysteriously losing all her own emails from a private server she was not supposed to have)
this was so painfully obvious right from the jump that not even the FBI fell for it. but nina did. she was out in the media speaking of “confirmed fears” that were simply propaganda.
the only confirmation here was conformation bias.
and she is STILL lying. brazenly. and she is still working in this field and for this government. openly.
could their be a more resounding and obvious indictment of the insincerity of this project’s purported aims?
well, as it turns out, yes, there can be.
this statement comes straight from DHS.
they have just named michael chertoff and jamie gorelick to “lead a thorough review and assessment” about this project and it’s goals and impact on civil rights. this is like hiring a fox and a coyote to look into security procedures after the the henhouse murder scandal.
jamie gorelick was the deputy attorney general for the clintons whose penchant for probity is well known.
she also (despite having as much experience in finance as hunter biden does in oil and gas) had a wonderful sinecure as the vice chairman of soon to be defunct and federally bailed out fannie mae in the lead up to the 2008 financial crisis in which its excesses played such a prominent role. they were among the most highly paid leadership teams in corporate america. meanwhile, during their tenure, fannie was fined an unprecedented $400 million before collapsing in a pile of fraudy accounting and unkeepable promises to backstop loans made to the uncreditworthy. all while lying about it.
but she’s a bit of a sideshow here. the main act is chertoff.
this is the man who literally co-authored the patriot act, the most horrendous, abused, and outright unconstitutional and un-amercian piece of legislation in living memory.
secret FISA courts with secret warrants used to spy on political campaigns and 100 million americans? yup, that was the result of his handiwork. all that unaccountable power from 3 hop warrants or to rendition mere “people of interest” without charge or warrant. that was chertoff’s project. he’s also been pro NSA mass surveillance from the jump and remains so.
he too was a clinton pal and the only united states attorney not replaced when the clintons took office.
he then headed up the whitewater investigation against them. oddly, no charges were ever filed. huh.
this is the guy who provided legal advice to the CIA on “enhanced interrogation” against terror suspects.
yeah, charm the paint off walls, this fellah…
setting him to find the balance on “identifying and fighting disinformation and civil rights” is like inviting vlad the impaler to participate in a holiday decorations contest.
this choice of oversight shows beyond any doubt that DHS is not serious about reining in the abuses of a disinfo board or protecting civil rights. they just called in billy the kid, not wyatt erp.
but this does not show that they are not serious.
they are.
these are serious people and DHS would not bring them in unless they planned to keep this new division and go big.
they’re just going to do it differently, more surreptitiously, and in all likelihood, worse.
we just traded a puppetshow darth vader for the real live emperor.
and unlike nina, who was basically a cartoon, these are heavyweights, political operators, people of cunning and patience and capability. connected people.
and they have plans.
they always do.
and they will lie.
they always do.
and if you listen to the chatter from the WEF this week, you can see full well where this is going, because it’s all of a piece:
the answer to increasing polarization is “recalibrating a whole range of human rights.” she then references free speech and a “right to be free from online violence” whatever that is…
she then casts the right of data protection against the right of child dignity. keep an eye on that one, because it’s EXACTLY how these disinfo boards and truth ministries will come for you.
this is how they root your phone and check all your communication before you encrypt it to “stop child trafficking and child porn” by ensuring that your communications cannot be private.
it’s a classic setup for a trojan framing.
trump up some threat that looks impossibly dire, and use an extreme and/or orthogonal corner case as pretext to push in the thin end of a wedge that will, once set, never cease prying apart your freedoms thereafter because such power, once taken, is never given back. instead it is cultivated and grown, expanded into space after space, outrage after outrage until that which was once unthinkable is normalized. and by then, it will be too late.
they start with “protecting kids” and pretty soon they are calling you a terrorist for protesting a school board’s abuses against your very own little ones.
once they have reframed the question and it’s not “is this speech suppression and therefore a violation of rights?” but rather “is this speech the government should prevent for your own good?” the fight for your liberty is already over.
the rest is just mop up.
you have no rights, just a negotiation over privileges that you will, inevitably, lose.
these programs are most easily stopped before they start and this disinfo board is not an agency you want a government to have.
it’s not even a question of when but only of how it will be abused.
the playbook is always the same.
They're disinforming, we know they're disinforming, they know that we know they're disinforming, we know that they know that we know they're disinforming, but they're still disinforming (and saying we're the ones doing the disinforming).
I figured they were just going back to the huddle to come up with something more evil.
