His base pretty much begged him to stop it (even booing him when he brought it up at rallies) but he continued. He's stopped now, but way too late. I voted for the man twice enthusiastically, but he blew it on this one and completely missed what most of supporters saw early. They will be trotting out those tapes of him bragging about it and it won't be pretty.
