Decentralized systems are more nimble and more resilient, that's one reason free markets work so well and encourage diverse approaches in problem solving. IMHO a reflection of natural processes of adaptation ranging from the molecular level to organisms and systems.
We have a largely controlled economy with the architects using a facade of decentralized free market capitalism to pretend to be free and open, that's why you don't see only 5 food package labels in the grocery store representing the enormous multinationals producing processed foods. The architects often allow somewhat free markets within the system to innovate and problem solve just enough to keep the system going. Crony capitalism and Iron Law of Politics rolled into one.
What do you even mean with 'capitalism'?
Is that where big capital buys legislators and uses them to subsidize, tax, implement competition stifling mandates, etc?
That is not the free market.
Free market incentivizes competition, because if your out-competes other businesses , you can sell more than the competition.

Different people refer to different things with the word 'capitalism'.
