Yup, I feel very sorry for the kids at the register who have to pointlessly wear a mask.

I always look to see if their mask is under their nose. If it is, I say in an encouraging way that I'm so sorry they have to wear the mask, but I'm grateful to see that they still able to breathe. Cashiers, young and old, really seem to appreciate any recognition that they aren't alone. I've also noticed that a sizable number of workers who are forced to mask appreciate customers who don't. It's as though we are taking a stand for them, too. A smile and a kind word goes a long way in this very ugly world!

I have noticed this appreciation too-especially the minimum wage workers in the supermarket have shiny eyes when I interact maskless with them. They know I am standing up for them too.
