we’re having a good time discussing this over at casa del bluebird and as such i’d like to open the issue up to the substack folks as well as i imagine you might have some interesting ideas here:
the question from white wabbit was simple:
If you were the leader of your respective country for 1 day, and you were able to pass just 1 law to be made permanent, what would it be?
here’s my take:
all laws automatically sunset and become void after 10 years.
each must be individually read aloud on the floor of both houses and voted back into effect if desired.
only the constitution and bill of rights are exempt from this. https://t.co/rPDK0T1tvq

small addition:
all members who will vote on a law must be present in the chamber during its entire reading.
my second place thought was this:
"if in any year the US budget fails to balance, all congresspeople and the president in office during that time are ineligible to stand for re-election."
then let's see how the budget process runs...
OK gato gang, go nuts.
let’s have yours.
i’ll cross post the interesting (or funny) ones to twitter.
all parties involved in passing a law are also subject to that law and its enforcement as if they were mere commoners. no more rules for thee and not for me.
All politicians while in office must work for minimum wage with no retirement package, live in public housing and take public transportation.
