My in-laws desperately want to go now, but I've told them that my sons and I aren't getting the shot and aren't traveling anywhere where we have to wear masks or show proof of vaccination (my wife got the shot - her body her choice, imo - but I think she regrets it now).

Yes, there were those of us (I'm 80 now), during those first months who watched reports of lungs turning to glass, large blood clots, hospitals overrun, and sick people unable to breathe being dropped outside of emergency rooms alone because a family member wasn't allowed inside with them. I had a friend die, with or from covid/heart attack/stroke in hospital. I didn't get to see my grandchildren from the beginning of the pandemic or the lockdown months. I got scared every time my elderly husband went to the grocery store -- thinking he'd get sneezed or coughed on by a sick person. As spring came, our daughter (who was considered vital or necessary) went to work every day -- (she and her office counterpart ran out of hand sanitizer and started using Chlorox wipes -- she'd text me and say 'my hands are raw'. I had ordered hand sanitizer early so I sat ours on our porch and told her to come get ours.) Her job was facilities management and she had to visit eight clinics and officed at one of those. She was exposed every day to dozens of people -- she had friends who caught the virus. The lockdown wasn't easy -- as the months passed and spring approached our daughter came to see us, but she didn't come inside. I went outside and sat on the grass and she sat several yards away -- at that time we didn't know it was safe to be outside. She got the vaccine after consulting doctors at her workplace, and she got it so that she couldn't give us, her parents, the virus if she caught it. I got the vaccine -- and I admit I had doubts -- because I wanted to be free to go to yoga and tai chi and to my singing group. I kept thinking 'if the vaccine does make people sick, it hasn't been on the news, we haven't heard about it -- surely we'd know, there are hundreds of thousands of people taking the shots every day' -- until people like Dr. Mercola, the FLCCC doctors, and Dr. Peter McCullough began to speak, we didn't have information reaching us about the side effects. Our media, the CDC, FDA, HHS -- all of them have betrayed ordinary people -- so, have a heart those of you like Tiago, we elderly and the ones who love us thought the vaccines would help. Even Dr. Malone took the vaccine. I've gone over this to make it more coherent, but I can't because there is so much emotion in me -- this has been a terrible experience, and we are left with damaged school children, unemployment, a devastated economy, and myriad other things to consider, so having people laughing their asses off is a real turn off. All I wanted was to be free again -- and, thankfully because of the advice of the doctors I mentioned above, perhaps I am because I've followed their 'post vaccine' advice to the letter for both me, my husband, and given the different supplements to our daughter. I really like your writing, and agree with your perpective generally. And it is this that motivates me to say that I think the above comment is below the usual high intellectual level of your work.
I had read simliar comments about BG in a number of places, so I went back and looked at his actual remarks. It is very clear from reading them in context that he was saying that he thought increased child vaccination would reduce child mortality in third world countries, leading families in those countries to not feel the need to have as many children - which would reduce population. This is a very common way of thinking in public health circles (whether it is accurate or not can be debated, but it is common).
He very clearly was NOT saying that vaccines would reduce population because they would kill lots of people. Yet this is what is repeated over and over on sites that are critical of covid vaccines and vaccine mandates.
In my view, repeating statements like this that can easily be demonstrated to be inaccurate undermines the credibility of our side. Our side that does not have much political or institutional power, but we do have one great source of strength - we have facts and logic. These can be very persuasive, but only if we make an effort to be very rigorous about sticking to facts and logic. Otherwise, we undermine our credibility.

Yes, there were those of us (I'm 80 now), during those first months who watched reports of lungs turning to glass, large blood clots, hospitals overrun, and sick people unable to breathe being dropped outside of emergency rooms alone because a family member wasn't allowed inside with them. I had a friend die, with or from covid/heart attack/stroke in hospital. I didn't get to see my grandchildren from the beginning of the pandemic or the lockdown months. I got scared every time my elderly husband went to the grocery store -- thinking he'd get sneezed or coughed on by a sick person. As spring came, our daughter (who was considered vital or necessary) went to work every day -- (she and her office counterpart ran out of hand sanitizer and started using Chlorox wipes -- she'd text me and say 'my hands are raw'. I had ordered hand sanitizer early so I sat ours on our porch and told her to come get ours.) Her job was facilities management and she had to visit eight clinics and officed at one of those. She was exposed every day to dozens of people -- she had friends who caught the virus. The lockdown wasn't easy -- as the months passed and spring approached our daughter came to see us, but she didn't come inside. I went outside and sat on the grass and she sat several yards away -- at that time we didn't know it was safe to be outside. She got the vaccine after consulting doctors at her workplace, and she got it so that she couldn't give us, her parents, the virus if she caught it. I got the vaccine -- and I admit I had doubts -- because I wanted to be free to go to yoga and tai chi and to my singing group. I kept thinking 'if the vaccine does make people sick, it hasn't been on the news, we haven't heard about it -- surely we'd know, there are hundreds of thousands of people taking the shots every day' -- until people like Dr. Mercola, the FLCCC doctors, and Dr. Peter McCullough began to speak, we didn't have information reaching us about the side effects. Our media, the CDC, FDA, HHS -- all of them have betrayed ordinary people -- so, have a heart those of you like Tiago, we elderly and the ones who love us thought the vaccines would help. Even Dr. Malone took the vaccine. I've gone over this to make it more coherent, but I can't because there is so much emotion in me -- this has been a terrible experience, and we are left with damaged school children, unemployment, a devastated economy, and myriad other things to consider, so having people laughing their asses off is a real turn off. All I wanted was to be free again -- and, thankfully because of the advice of the doctors I mentioned above, perhaps I am because I've followed their 'post vaccine' advice to the letter for both me, my husband, and given the different supplements to our daughter. Thankfully, everyone in her family caught covid this past summer and have the natural immunity -- though, she caught it and had a rough case until I supplied the protocol she needed that helped her get well. None of this is a laughing matter. And, I apologize for my disorganized post.
I understand fear, but fear is not an excuse to support sending the police, with guns, to potentially kill other people unless they stay home, take a jab, or anything else. This is unjustifiable.
Having said that, I just repeat what I wrote before: I also feel sorry for good people - *exclusively the ones who never supported lockdowns and other violence* - that were fooled into taking a shot. Jabbed kids is the best example.
Think we're talking about two different things -- what has happened since the first months -- police, quarantine camps, the rush to force people to submit, mandates, etc., -- are all evil and totalitarian. I am so very old I can remember watching and being shocked and angry at news reports of the East Germans being shot as they attempted to escape to freedom in the West. This pandemic became about power and control, or, I should say, probably was about power and control from the beginning. I wrote letters to the editor of our newspaper very early, saying that our school administration was sacrificing school children (because of distance learning and trace quarantining) for elderly people like me, and I demanded they stop. I said, I'll stay home, let the children go to school. They didn't print my letter. I guess I responded to the lmao because I've read it so many places -- perhaps it's a natural reaction. I just felt back then that I was in the middle of something monstrous -- I never dreamed it would turn into something that was truly monstrous. I apologize to you for reacting, as well as using your nic.

No, your reply was fine -- I was just trying to say I'd been afraid and took the vaccine, was very sorry I did, and that I never dreamed that "two weeks" would turn into months of lockdowns for different states, masks still being required in different places, and our government tinkering with universal mandates. I wish my fear hadn't made me weak. I really was apologizing to you -- I think just trying to show you that I wasn't on the other side. That I did realize what peril our country is in -- we have to defeat those who would crush and control us.
Thank you for that insight into how you see it. I think it was all this deceit and malpractice that victimized the best amongst us, the ones who we count on for love and wisdom. I know they wore my Dad down and he's paying the price and I'm staying near and asking him every day not to take the booster.

There are certainly some people who support the tyranny but there are many many more people of good faith who just bought into the narrative - and still buy into the narrative - that getting the jab was the right thing to do and that they were being good members of society and being responsible for themselves and their families. I bear them no ill will, especially if they haven't tried to coerce ME.... but politicians and their supporters who see mere disagreement as worthy of punishment and vengeance? Get behind me. I can forgive but I will never forget.

The idea that you should take responsibility for your acts is not a moral one. It is a rule of nature. If you don't, you suffer the consequences and it is useless to give an excuse later. The information was there for anyone who wanted. I have no sympathy for people who choose to believe what they did.
But OK, apart from some friends and family, I also feel sorry for someone that was really coerced into taking the jab. Or someone that could not understand what is happening and did not have anyone to help them avoid this experimental injection.
But those are rare. The vast majority is not naive. They are actually the little wannabe tyrants that support lockdowns, masks, and simply empower useless people like fauci and president brandon to send the police after the others.

I really like your writing, and agree with your perpective generally. And it is this that motivates me to say that I think the above comment is below the usual high intellectual level of your work.
I had read simliar comments about BG in a number of places, so I went back and looked at his actual remarks. It is very clear from reading them in context that he was saying that he thought increased child vaccination would reduce child mortality in third world countries, leading families in those countries to not feel the need to have as many children - which would reduce population. This is a very common way of thinking in public health circles (whether it is accurate or not can be debated, but it is common).
He very clearly was NOT saying that vaccines would reduce population because they would kill lots of people. Yet this is what is repeated over and over on sites that are critical of covid vaccines and vaccine mandates.
In my view, repeating statements like this that can easily be demonstrated to be inaccurate undermines the credibility of our side. Our side that does not have much political or institutional power, but we do have one great source of strength - we have facts and logic. These can be very persuasive, but only if we make an effort to be very rigorous about sticking to facts and logic. Otherwise, we undermine our credibility.

I read the article in the first link you provided, and it supports my point. BG is quoted as saying:

It is clear to anyone familiar with public health policy that he means that all these initiatives will lower child mortality, which will lower population growth by getting families to have fewer children. His intent is the opposite of what you are implying.
Again, I think making inaccurate claims is damaging to our side. We have the facts on our side already - we don't need to make things up, and it hurts our credibility to do so.
Population doesn't increase with dead children. The entire premise of his argument is flawed from the beginning. And there are many ways for vaccines to slow population growth without killing people. Ask Kenya.
