Ow. Ow ow ow. Sounds even worse than being tested for the clap, honestly - you know, the older method of sticking a huge Schwab up your pee-hole and scrape the inside of it.

Fair's fair, so I'll share:

Many years ago when we lived down south, I discovered that the city was full of walnut trees so I went picking. Having only ever seen them in the store sans the green outer peel, I got to peeling them in the kitchen sink.

After having peeled maybe 6-8 gallons of walnuts during the afternon I went to wash of all that black residue from my hands and arms. Only, it doesn't wash out. A websearch later told me the green peels are rich in tannin. Joy.

So, come Monday I'm greeted by colleagues with hollers to the tune of "Doing a Michael Jackson in reverse, are we?" and things far more non-PC too.

The students found it hilarous and were even more coarse in their commentary.

As an old maker of walnut dye, I know exactly what you're talking about. Too funny. My two English walnuts had a very good year, and I had the time to pick them off the tree rather than wait for them to drop (and be immediately scooped up by our Unkindness of ravens), so I've had some Al Jolson hands myself lately. Worth it - I've managed to harvest maybe ten gallons of walnuts. Did I mention that Mom was a squirrel?
