You want hot, I'll give you hot. On June 17, 1859, a heat dome over the Santa Ynez Valley in California brought a simoon (hot killer wind such as is found in North Africa) out over the town of Santa Barbara (ave. temp in June is 72 degrees). In minutes, the temperature hit 133 degrees. People - and animals - rushed into water, into the sea to stay cool, but there was a lot of death.
