We are a secular civil society and cult-based views of what a woman may do with her own body and any entity contained within it and dependent for its survival on her own bodily resources and capacities are irrelevant and intrusive.

Isn’t what you describe a cult-based philosophy that ascribes no value to human life in the womb (therefore a death-cult) making an idol of self over all else?

No. Not in the least. What I am describing is the right of a woman to autonomy over her own body and to be best able to decide for herself if a pregnancy--arising from whatever circumstance--should be carried to term.

Believing Christians have abortions when they consider it appropriate or necessary for their circumstances. Believing Jews; believing Muslims--there is no place on earth where women do not seek and obtain abortions, legally or surreptitiously--when they decide for themselves it is right or necessary in their circumstances.

Most normal people wish that effective safe birth control was used more widely. Most normal people wish that abortions are carried out very early in a woman's pregnancy. And most normal people recognize that no matter how distasteful, abortions before the point of viability should be legal.

Did the woman have autonomy over her body when she went through the motions of unprotected sex? Is she using abortion as birth control after the fact? That sort of careless decision does not justify the taking of innocent life, as it is not “her” body at that point, but the body of another that she and the sperm donor have created. Where is the love for the child they have created? Who will protect the life of that child growing in her womb?

It is absolutely her body and her bodily resources to direct as she chooses, and how she became pregnant is irrelevant to that.

Does the community have custodial authority over the unborn child growing in the woman's body? Is she merely the vessel that can be controlled by others?

That unborn child is nobody else's business until it is born.

Believe what you like, that’s your prerogative. We agree to disagree. The unborn child is the Creator’s and taking its life is murder, if you believe the Scriptures. That much is black and white. There will be consequences for that murder at some point. It is promised by the Creator.
