"It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance."

- Thomas Sowell

Once the middle views these corporate "journalist" as tobacco executives in the 80's, its over.

I’m on a text string with my three brothers. Politics seldom comes up. Yesterday one of them boasted how he was looking forward to the next No Kings protest. I bit, and went into a history lesson about how we’ve been celebrating No Kings day for 249 years, and if Trump were truly a king there’d be no protest to attend and playfully added protests were a good place to meet chicks, but be careful they’ll probably be a lot of trannies so don’t forget the ol’ reach around. Ho boy, talk about a triggering event.

So yeah, what Sowell said.

In light of all the "No Kings" hoopla, Burger King is going to change it's name to "Burger Autonomous Collective."

Navigator18's avatar

"Have it your way - unless it contradicts the ideology of the Autonomous Collective, or hurts someone's feelings. Plus, no burgers. Cow farts are evil." Not quite as catchy as the original - but people need to be made to understand.

Metaphysically speaking, "Cow Farts" are merely the restless spirits of silage that has recently shuffled off its' mortal coil. (Am I right, or am I right?)

That's already happened. The credibility of media has collapsed since the 1970s. Trust in media used to be ~70%, and now it's ~30%. Audiences have followed accordingly for most corporate media, i.e., they've dropped significantly. What's fascinating about all this is that you would think most corporate media would be attempting to change out of sheer self-preservation, but they show no signs of doing so. They are a toxic mix of bias, delusion, and incompetence.

Mitch's avatar

their lack of efforts to change show that the business model isn't what people think it is. They are sucking up more money from Pay to Play, hidden government funding (think USAID and dark CIA budgets), and Big Pharma than from viewers/subscribers.

And if it's just to wedge a stick in the spokes of the wheels and upset them a bit I think that approach can have some effect-- again, as long they aren't too far gone.

One of the tragically fortunate outcomes of the horribly unfortunate murder of Charlie Kirk is this. The trauma and (unfair) characterization of his words, much of it from people with whom I racially identify, forced me to go down a Charlie Kirk rabbit hole. (I openly admit to being maybe one of a handful of people who was not all that familiar with him before!) What I found (and find) amazing is the depth of many of his observations, and how many of them with which I agree wholeheartedly. The misquotes are one thing. The open celebration of his murder has identified assholes I did not know existed. As you were fond of saying about the covid dumpster fire, it acted as a "sorting hat" for dumbassery. The Charlie Kirk murder acted as a sorting hat for dumbasses who are also evil at worst, broken at least.

Rahm Emanuel’s self-own is glorious. Yes, the American people refuse to continue to subsidize part-time, weather-dependent power generation that cannot support a reliable grid. There’s a reason data centers are building out their own power plants because they require a 5-nines (99.999%) level of operation and reliability. Shocker - subsidizing crappy power will increase power prices and reduce reliability.

From Politico:

"Let me tell you a story about Rahm Emanuel," Massa started. "I was a congressman in my first eight weeks, and I was in the congressional gym, and I went down and I worked out and I went into the showers...I'm sitting there showering, naked as a jaybird and here comes Rahm Emanuel not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me because I wasn't going to vote for the president's budget. Do you know how awkward it is to have a political argument with a naked man?”

No name here's avatar

The worst part about the post-truth stuff is how it's transparently just a vehicle for arriving at a desired conclusion when working backwards, then "logic" is applied forwards from there to reach a desired end state for the world.

The idiot HR lady who's pretty sure she "deserves a seat at the table" because she's just like the men working in a productive capacity then freaks out when someone attempts a grown-up conversation with her *based on the topic she brought up for her own affirmation* is really no different than the trans furry lunatic who shot Charlie Kirk who likely thinks the reason his boyfriend is not a woman, thus making him a homosexual, is because people like Kirk *refuse to accept that men are women*.

It's "I invent my reality because that's what I want to believe" then with the idea that belief is what reifies everything in the world, go and use the logical conclusion of such obvious bullshit to impose upon other people.

It applies rationality but only when the rationality results in action taken on other people. When it comes to accepting things that are clearly untrue, said rationality is completely abandoned. They would never, for example, accept "It's my truth that I didn't smack the HR lady on the ass in the break room", but will in a heartbeat accept "The HR lady isn't an astronaut and part-time rock star because of the patriarchy.

It's *always* selectively applied. Not just to other people, but also to the people pushing post-truth claims, themselves.

Ryan Gardner's avatar

My favorite trick is asking them a question so I can get their permissible talking point from the media, and then asking them the same question phrased differently to hear them spout another pre-approved answer.

What it proves is they aren't listening and/or couldn't tell you a real answer because they don't even recognize the questions, as unique, but both asking the same thing.

The reports I read from over there make my head wobble! When r*pe gangs are allowed to roam free while women (and little girls) who grab whatever weapon they have to try to fend them off are arrested for possessing those weapons you are at end stage civilization. Especially when you subsequently arrest people for speaking out about it. All those out marching with their Union Jacks (which is good to see) need to unite in their own communities and clean house. Those importing their barbaric ways are still the minority, but for how long? Make Britain Great Again!

The old word for England was Albion, so Make Albion Great Again. MAGA! And yes, this is all end-stage civilization, or at least one version of it.

Rikard's avatar

And "Albion" is the Latin version of a Celtic word, that has roots back to a PIE-word that means (drum roll):

Or whenever a central continental power tried to rise, really.

The point of the exercise was to understand how diplomay is played and to understand that powerful nations do not have friends nor allies, only enemies and contenders.

N.Y. Times Reports Facts Are Not Relevant As They Alter US History https://www.independentsentinel.com/ny-times-reports-facts-are-not-relevant-as-they-alter-us-history/

University of North Carolina journalism professors protest the concept of ‘objectivity’ in news reporting.

https://justthenews.com/nation/states/unc-journalism-professors-protest-objectivity-news-reporting

As Associated Press Washington Bureau Chief, Fournier put out guidelines telling reporters to ignore both sides of every issue and put in their personal opinions in the stories they wrote.

This was to "hold people accountable."

Journalists didn't TELL YOU that they were suddenly writing opinion pieces.

https://twtext.com/article/1246661734951047168

(As an aside, the AP was never the same after Obama wiretapped them. They became even more compliant, leftist state-owned propaganda.)

Silva's avatar

Journalists report what they have personally seen or heard. That's it. If they interviewed a person, they report what that person said, and nothing more. If they saw something personally, they report what they saw. If an expert has drawn a conclusion, the journalist reports what that expert said, and what his qualifications would be as far as being able to draw that conclusion.

A journalist does not himself draw conclusions. His job is merely to observe and to report. A good journalist knows where to find things that would be relevant to observe, and to use that to drill down to what appears to that journalist to be the objective truth. Even so, he still reports only what he saw or heard personally.

If there are conclusions drawn, like when they said, "Donald Trump falsely stated that the 2020 election was stolen," that's not journalism. The word 'falsely' is a conclusion, and journalists don't conclude. They leave it to others to conclude. If it was instead written as, "Donald Trump stated that the 2020 election was stolen, but [name of supposed expert] says that's false," that would be a lot better. In that case, the conclusion is being drawn by a person who is supposed to be an expert, and the journalist merely reports the opinion of that expert, and who that expert is, so that readers/listeners/viewers can decide for themselves whether he is credible.

Journalism professors instructing their students to eschew the actual practice of journalism does not make any sense. They're being taught something quite different than actual journalism. Call it creative writing, editorializing, or straight up propaganda, and you'd be closer than if you called it journalism.

Opinion journalism is not truly journalism, thus. It is the closest thing to it that you can find in the modern world, though. At least the right-leaning opinion journalist sites are quite clear about what they are. It's the left opinion journalists who misrepresent their opinion journalism as real journalism that are the problem. Lots of older people who grew up thinking that the nightly news was the unquestionable truth still think so, and younger people who really ought to know better often fall for it too.

HardeeHo's avatar

Falsely, debunked, unproven, without proof qualifiers are opinion presented as fact. Seeing those qualifiers alerts the reader to the bias. Apparently they must hammer the point to impress their editors and perhaps some who will assert the statement showing no critical expertise

[final image in post doesn't appear]

Hilarious abut that photo of Dylan Mulvaney: even with those delicate little fairy bones of his he still has a torso of masculine proportions. Kid just can't win.

And--the world hinges on what the world always hinges, doesn't it? Men of immense wealth using it for either good or evil. That critical mass of power is essential. You gotta have an earthquake to change the landscape fast enough.

kertch's avatar

Maybe Dylan should get hip implants.

SCA's avatar

Perhaps his family ought not to have imposed shame on him for his natural, subset of normal sexual development.

kertch's avatar

That's supposing they did, and he's not told us. From what I've heard, he was the typical effinate gay man - until he decided to do drag. However, if you want to look like a woman, why not get yourself some "woman hips".

SCA's avatar

He has said so. Guy gave plenty of interviews, wrote plenty of words while he was the hot new thing.

kertch's avatar

When people become the "hot new thing", rarely are they honest about their lives. Like most attention seekers he went straight to the victim card. Poor Dylan! It's obvious that he LOVES attention and becoming a "woman" got him a lot of it. It's his primary driver. It's more likely that his parents didn't acknowledge or affirm him, which I would expect in a religious family. Shame is a natural part of just about every society.

SCA's avatar

I'd been surprised to discover the details. I'd thought he was Mormon.

No's avatar

When I look at HIM, I feel the urge to violence. HE is so offensive to nature.

SCA's avatar

Well, he was raised in a traditional Catholic home and was made to feel such overwhelming shame and distress about being a gay kid that he tried to turn himself into a straight girl.

All cults are bad for you.

jim's avatar

Sure, it’s his parents fault. Pretty weak. This is a grown man playing make believe, it’s 100% on him, not because his parents didn’t accept there gay son or whatever. That may be a valid excuse for a teen or pre teen, not a grown ass man.

SCA's avatar

Terrible things can happen when you fuck up your kids.

signcut's avatar

How exactly did he "(try) to turn himself into a straight girl"? By wearing a dress? That's called being a transvestite.

The only way that he could even 'try' to make a claim of becoming a "straight girl" would be total surgery, which hasn't happened, although one could safely assume that he has the funds now (aside from insurance). Even that would still be a lie, a completely false belief, one that every cell in his body would bear scientific witness against.

No, he is simply making hay while the sun shines, playing at being a woman while clearly remaining a male, because some people fall for it, and it is paying the bills. The real question would be what he does once that is no longer the case. That may or may not happen any time soon; it is essentially moot until such a time.

Reality is that (for whatever reasons one wishes to ascribe) he is a gay man in a dress.

SCA's avatar

Yes. He is a gay man in a dress.

HardeeHo's avatar

Attractive to men who fail with real females. Gays aren’t real tolerant toward trans females.

SCA's avatar

You know, it's a strange thing. That scene in "Rocky Horror Picture Show" with Tim Curry singing in the swimming pool, I thought it was powerfully sexually compelling.

And I'm a real, straight girl.

HardeeHo's avatar

Been in too many gay/lesbian bars to think they tolerate pretenders. Recall that drag shows were generally to mock women. Bringing them into mainstream was always curious to me but women seem to enjoy them. That might mean something beyond my knowledge. All the MTF trans I’ve known (2) only wanted to fly low and try to fit in.

SCA's avatar

He is a gay guy from a wealthy devoutly Catholic family and got a degree in musical theater and toured in "The Book of Mormon" and then Our Plague Era hit and he handled being confined to home without a job very poorly and found TikTok and decided he was really a girl.

Still considers himself a Catholic though.

It's quite sad; the surgeries haven't been able to obliterate his male bone structure even on his face.

HardeeHo's avatar

Maybe he was awaiting money for that surgery but jobless and his parents limited his options. Surgery has been amazing in reworking faces. Sad that many males retain fears of being <gasp> a homo.

SCA's avatar

Do you remember the Heather Grimm case?

Heather was a big hefty girl from rural VA who realized she was gay by HS.

Heather's mother loved her but their Baptist faith and community made it hard to accept the reality of a lesbian daughter.

It was much, much easier to accept the idea that Heather was really a boy who'd been born in the wrong body. After all, babies are born with defective hearts, say, all the time, and doctors need to fix the problem. Sometimes bodies just come out wrong, don't they?

Heather began presenting as male at school, changed her name to Gavin, and demanded the right to use the boys' bathroom because she felt it was wrong to make her use the girls' bathroom because she wasn't really a girl.

Heather/Gavin got lots of legal assistance from the usual gang of idiots and now that's why many school districts in VA are forcing little girls to accept having boys in their bathrooms.

If Heather's one mommy had been able to accept having a lesbian daughter in her family we might not be here in this deranged social place right now.

When I look at problems like the one we as a nation have regarding public lying and propaganda, I ask “what is the fundamental / core / primary cause, and how did it evolve into the current situation.

I think I have been wrong to take that approach; it is too time consuming, if and when you find the answers, the game has already changed, the dynamics of reality have morphed, and last year’s solution will not work (sort of like the Covid vax).

The problem with Kimmel isn’t Kimmel, or free speech; it’s the fact that a subsidiary of a corporate / conglomerate subsidiary is allowed to use valuable public airwaves to spout political propaganda. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

I am so tired of the lies! - the intentional, practiced, focus-group-tested, professional lies.
