As a veterinarian, I am APALLED by the excessive costs currently associated with veterinary care. I try my best to provide decent care for an affordable cost, but I cannot find any doctors who want to associate with me. Veterinary medicine is devolving into human medicine, with $$$$$ being paramount to every doctor and care takes a backseat. It was not always this way.
I'd LOVE to learn how to leverage AI to provide even less costly care.
Some things, such as surgery, will be hard for AI to do and I am pretty good at surgery, so I think my job is safe. Not so for many vets. Many now eschew surgery or refer to expensive specialty centers that many cannot afford.
I will be much happier when we can bring veterinary care back into the realm of possibility for most pet owners, instead of this corporate slop being shoved down people's throats currently.
I am so grateful for you and your work and view on this! We had a scare with our cat a few weeks ago, and the whole time, while I was concerned for our kitty, I was equally in sorrow for all the people having to choose between a creature they love and going into huge debt. We can afford it, but so many can’t, and it makes me so sad to see the racket it has become. And $10,000 later, we have a few more insights into the potential cause of her issue, but now comes the racket of chemo. We’re going holistic, but everything still costs so much.
