That is a really good round-up. I read another substack I think his name is Mark McDonald? - he is a phychiatrist. He talked about how it is child abuse to continue to mask children and that people who do it are child abusers. It struck a chord with me. It lakes courage to talk to kids about the mask with their parent in tow. I think eventually someone might smack me. I am always polite as possible and calm. So far I have chatted with three kids. They kept their mask on all after looking up at their moms. Their moms were not very pleased with me. But would she keep silent if she saw a child being abused?

Agree, it is terrifying to see and I think it is child abuse too, but good for you for pressing. I don't interact with that many kids but next time I do--and I'm in CA so you know there are still plenty of masked ones--I'll try to remember your inspiration. For a while I had an essential worker job outdoors and would get all goofy with them, like, why're you wearing a mask outside??? That's nutty! We have such great fresh air! Some kids agreed, some just hung onto the parent!

That's a cute way of doing it. I usually ask them how I can see their cute smile when they are hiding it behind that yucky mask and ask them if they have lost a tooth or if they are growing a mustache". I am a grannie age so it goes down easier.
