Don Lemon is an idiot, so there is that.

Expand full comment

We'd better wait to see what Joy Reid says then.

Expand full comment

Reid is objectively smarter than Lemon but dogmatically stupid in the Dietrich Bonhoeffer sense of the word. Lemon is just stupid.

Expand full comment

Maybe Gato can make a fancy chart on the "Increasing Intensity of Stupid" on cable news. 🤔

Expand full comment

what a dream of an idea! How to quantify stupid? and classification?

There are so many different kinds of stupid coming at us.

Expand full comment

One marker of stupidity is lack of humor. One needs to be smart to be funny, and Mr. Gato is a purrfect example.

Expand full comment

I've long observed that the lefties such as Lemon, Reid, etc. are pretty much all characterized by a non-existent sense of humor. Angry, vicious, hateful, never anything to laugh at. Can't even identify when someone is joking. They lack a humor gene??

He’s making a career out of getting totally pwnd on national tv. It’s refreshing.

It's tragic comedy at this point. It reminds me of when the late-Alan Colmes was Hannity's liberal punching bag back in the '00s. Hannity is not blessed with a 'steel trap' intellect to begin with. Hannity, as the neocon cheerleader as he is now, always seemed to get the better of Colmes who was objectively smarter. Like Don Lemon (or Geraldo Rivera who serves a similar purpose), I always suspected it was set-up. However, I will concede that Lemon and Rivera are that stupid. Parenthetically, I know Hannity's dying to don a Zelensky (yy)(ii)(iy) fatigue t-shirt and to pull out his Ukraine flag but he knows Tucker will beat him down. At least Tucker figured out that this is one of those times when both sides may be bad guys.

Drunk Don Lemon on the CNN New Years Eve special. He is one of the few people that make more sense when they are wrecked.

It just shows you how deep his act is.....the drunk Lemon can’t cover for all the lies and-hyperbole he needs to stay on top of to project his SJW anchor warrior to the world. Lemon's got the Left and Right bowers (blackish and homosexual). Noah's only got the Left bower.

As a brown[ish] heterosexual myself, I can tell you that Karen-from-HR is far more predisposed towards homosexuals than she is towards coloured folk... and as COVID showed us, Karen-from-HR now runs the world (in the sense that she determines which proles remain employed: she doesn't determine policy).

Karen-from-HR is the archetype of the C-student who is absolutely certain that the thing about which she is currently infatuated, is the Most Important Thing Ever. As such (her logic proceeds) dissent is not only evidence of non-conformity, it is evidence of Sin and muct be crushed.

I can't wait until we all get the broadcast email from HR letting us know that our lives would be changed if we read "The Secret" and bought a couple of Dream-Catchers.

We are living in a very clownish time, and have given the reins to some very stupid people.

Well, the term "draft dodger" itself implies a certain judgment of cowardice, where "conscientious objector" would be more neutral. Allowing oneself to be used as cannon fodder does not strike me as bravery.

Expand full comment

Purnados are graded by the Furj-ita scale. Geometric algorithm.

F1- is that??? Kinda rumbling, you can feel it but not hear it.

F2- there is vibration and audible disturbance.

F3- heavy lateral rib movement, the issuing Cat storm may or may not cease movement, but the eye of the storm looks bleary

F4- the purnado has clearly settled in, the storm kneads to flex ts claws.( making.biscuits...go figure)

F5- the most devastating if the Fur-jita scale involves a rumbling that puts a diesel engine to shame, and may necessitate a rag due to the maw of the storm producing excess moisture. Sometimes called 'drooling' .

I did my thesis on health impacts from extreme weather events in The Western Pacific, specifically Solomon Islands. I pulled the meteorological data and found no evidence of increased frequency or strength in the region. But what I did find was increased risk due to coastal and riverine development, population density and location of health critical infrastructure.

When I talk about that work I try not to link it to climate change, although others do. But extreme weather events do happen and they happen in predictable patterns due to atmospheric and ocean currents (as the wise cat said) and they do cause health impacts and destroy property.

The ocean and atmospheric patterns in the western Pacific places Vanuatu’s islands at highest risk for cyclonic activity, with some direct and indirect impact on Solomon Islands chain. Pinpointing the storm vulnerable areas and adjusting where and how buildings are constructed will reduce risk. That is not climate change, it’s garden variety risk reduction. So instead of insisting that people reduce their carbon footprint perhaps it would be wiser to invest in infrastructure that stands up to cyclones (hurricanes), king tides and tsunamis.

we went to Cozumel years ago, stayed in a fortress of a hotel - all concrete blocks, walkways, walls, ceiling - like giant concrete blocks stacked on top of each other. We asked about it & they said they get washed away frequently by hurricanes, but the building remains. they come in, clean it out, paint, add new cheap furniture & they're back in business in days, ready for the next group of tourists.

Seconded! If I had a dollar (well, ten crowns) for every time the computer's various weather apps and national weather services have shown something else than what's outside the window, I could buy a brand-spanking new Range Rover.

Expand full comment

My weather app always shows exactly what’s happening outside at that very moment, regardless of what they were predicting ten minutes before. They’re very flexible that way!

When my husband was in college in the early 80’s, one of his classes took a tour of the local National Weather Service facility. The guide showed off all the fancy state-of-the-art computers and forecasting tools they had at their disposal. But the grand finale of the tour was what they regarded as their most importing prognosticating tool: the giant window facing north! 😂🤣

LOL that says it all. As for a forecast, I watch my dog and cats and listen to the birds. On a grey rainy morning with brighter weather in the forecast, cats and dog stay in and wait it out. If they all run into the rain, forget it. If the morning is bright but no birds are singing, either there is an owl in the yard, or the weather won't hold. A finger I hurt years ago still nags when it is going to be foggy. And I always take an umbrella and rain coat in my car. Better safe than sorry! Thanks for the laugh!

I think this would improve things:

Every time they get it too much wrong, they lose 10% off of next paycheck. 10% cumulative, so if they get it wrong ten times in one month they don't get paid.

I mean, when I worked in storehouse for cheese (which put me off cheese for years - got the whole back end of the bus to myself though...) ages ago, if I had sent out a fully laden truck where the contents or the delivery list was wrong 1/10 only, they'd sent me to the doctor or fired me.

It's done from a sense of principle, rather than for wages.

This is a prime example of the alarmist junk churned out by the media every time a severe weather event happens.

"I assumed that intensifying, in-your-face climate disasters would serve as a sort of backstop to finally force action.

To understand what an emergency we are now in, the scale and variety of the climate damage we’ve already incurred, you only need to look at a few of the most recent disasters. Hurricane Ian has just pummeled Cuba and Florida. The full extent of the disaster will only be revealed in the coming days and weeks, although first looks are shocking. But we do know with certainty that Ian was supercharged by global heating through several well-understood fundamental physics pathways."

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/oct/01/climate-emergency-hurricane-ian-crisis

'Fundamental fizzics' PROVES that we are in a climate emergency, according to this hyperventilating climate activist. Unbelievable how factually challenged and scientifically ignorant these people are. Of course, what he SHOULD have said is this:

"I assumed that intensifying, in-your-face hysterical climate activists would serve as a sort of backstop to finally force action."

My family still doesn’t believe me when I tell them google is baked. I finally said let’s do an experiment. Pick any political topic (abortion let’s say) and search it. How many pages in do you have to go to find a single article that deviates from the previous ones. They just stare at me. Viewpoint diversity is a crucial element of society. We’ve become intellectually bankrupt and nobody seems to notice or care.

Expand full comment

I saw something the other day as well that was unusual on google and most of the other search engines. The internet is disappearing; at least that was the claim.

If you search something political, you get 4,555,000,000 results.

But the results start repeating.

Then...... when you go ten or twenty pages into the results, suddenly the results just stop, and you get a message like "results are similar so we've excluded them." Even if you click "show me the results," you still end up hitting a wall.

So either there are not the number of results that they show you, or they're deliberately excluding results.

The only engine I tried that did not do that was yandex, a russian search engine.

Expand full comment

Part of that is because for most topics there are only a few articles with original content, and then hundreds and thousands of articles, blog posts, tweets, etc., that quote the original ones. If you click through to the listings on the first 10-20 pages you'll see what I mean.

For most political topics, recency is the top criteria -- nobody who searches "Roe v. Wade overturned" cares what, say, Anita Bryant thought about it in 1978, so the search engines prioritize what somebody said yesterday or last week, and then all the other search results are pundits and activists and journalists (but I repeat myself) endlessly quoting and rehashing those 2-3 most recent things.
