That is why it is never taught in the gubermint schools. This morning Bannon said how right after the Declaration Of Independence was signed the British expeditionary force came down from Nova Scotia and landed at Syracuse. Washington's great achievement was to hold the army together as we lost battle after battle until we won. He also mentioned that Jefferson said after the War of 1812 that the importance of building our own ships and weapons and becoming an economic powerhouse was the only way to maintain our independence. Side note: after the War of 1812 there were a large amount of people who said we should have gone on and taken Canada.
Swabbie, in respect to your comment re. the historical significance of the War of 1812 and the necessity for a strong navy, Ian Toll's magnificent SIX FRIGATES illuminates that part of our history perfectly. I re-read it a couple of times His trilogy which subsequently detailed the history of the US Navy, from its beginnings, through WWII is equally worthwhile.
