It is sad that we have to be so hard on medicine because in concept it is so noble, but has become so utterly corrupted by pride and avarice.

I remember as an undergraduate researcher in a Physical Chem group, we both envied and despised the Organic guys. We envied them because they were awash in cash, huge grants for whatever they wanted.(we had to go borrow dewarfuls of liquid nitrogen from their MRI for an example). But we despised them because their was no thought behind what they did. Whenever someone identified an organic compound of interest they just had a race to make as many relatives of the compound as they could and run tests on them without any insight, or any desire for insight it seemed, into why one was better at this or that application. Just a mad dash for a compound that could be patented and sold. I guess that kinda pictures how I feel about medicine. The doctors have lost their autonomy and their brains, not to mention integrity, to the Pharm.
