I highly doubt Tim Pool sent his "followers" to attack anyone. What a joke.

But if anyone was in any doubt about what is happening in Australia, check this out:

https://thecovidworld.com/australian-senator-who-opposes-vaccine-mandate-escorted-to-quarantine-hotel-this-has-been-premeditated/

"South Australian Senator Alex Antic was taken into hotel quarantine under police escort in Adelaide on Thursday night. The senator who has been very vocal against vaccine mandates is now forced to quarantine for two weeks.

The bizarre incident comes after Prime Minister Scott Morrison insisted in an interview last Friday that the senator has received both doses of the COVID vaccine."

"The senator was asked by ABC Radio Adelaide on Friday why he was taken to a hotel to quarantine for two weeks to which he responded:

“That’s a very good question.

I’ve been a person who has been very, very vocal about mandates, vaccine passports, discrimination, government overreach and bureaucratic overreach.

Now all of a sudden I seem to have been singled out in what appears to be a political stunt and the only inference you can really draw from this is this has been quite premeditated.

My wife and my three-month-child are now at home for another two weeks without me.”"

So now they are using these delightful "quarantine hotels" to detain political dissidents. How much further does this need to degenerate before Covidians start saying that maybe this has gone too far?

Expand full comment

They’ll never say it went too far. It’s all about safety, you know, and that trumps everything. After all, what’s more unsafe than a politician who doesn’t support safety?

I fear this could go on for a very long time. The West has been corrupted and in a decline for several decades, it has lost its purpose, goals and the identity. The "Covidians," it seems to me, were now given both their identity - of those better, of those caring for a granny - and an enemy in those "unvaxxed illness spreading vermin" to hate back.

Right, "voluntary".

So wait a sec: the pictures were taken in August, before there were regulations regarding confinement, at the place where the confinement is now taking place?!?!?! Does anyone else find this a bit suspicious? Gosh, it’s like they knew they would need these pictures one day.

Lehmann and Quillette both turned out to be massive disappointments. What at first seemed to be a publication (and publisher) for open-minded discourse, she and Quillette did a shocking 180 into propaganda and infantile takedowns of anti-narrative dissent. I canceled my subscription a while ago.

Expand full comment

There was a revolt of some of Quillette’s most frequent forum-posters back in May when she started locking posts and suspending commenters who weren’t quite as non-right as she seems to like. It was a sudden move and the scuttlebutt was she was either trying to go big-time mainstream and start making real money, or she was threatened with legal action from some of her woke commenters who found the cut and thrust of the online debate too vigorous for their delicate sensibilities.

Expand full comment

It was shocking to me. And sudden. Seemed totally antithetical to the mission of the publication. Not sure if that explains why Lehmann has quadrupled down on her pro-narrative push. But there’s not really a better explanation other than this is who she was the whole time and Quillette’s initial idea was just a ruse.

This is exactly what those fools on Twitter say about the "vaccine" protests of the people who wear yellow stars.

"You're disrespecting the holocaust! It's just a vaccine! How can you say that! It's not the same thing!"

Maybe that's the point, you feeble-minded jackass.

They are camps. They are to concentrate the "unclean" (ie positive test, friends or people the police just think were acting in a "covid dangerous way").

There is no process or appeal to get out.

The guards are "bureaucratically evil". They are just following orders for your own good. (see video in attached article).

Just because they don't treat the inmates like Auschwitz, does not mean they are not another form of concentration camp...

Great post. Claire Lehmann's transformation beggars belief and I have watched it in shock. Quillette was my go-to place for thoughtful, non-conformist, politically-homeless articles before Substack even existed. Somehow Claire has gotten swept up in whatever madness has captured Australia, seems incapable of questioning Australian or Big Pharma storylines, and now believes in enforcing full-blown fascism and risky medical treatments against what is for most people a sniffle, even as so many of her own people cry out for freedom.

If I could tell Claire something I would suggest she go to ANY government official and ask ANY skeptical question of ANY kind. Surely she has read SOMETHING on the internet that has caused her to questions SOMETHING her government or big pharma has said. And then when she asks that question she will see that she is simply not allowed to ask it and she will get in trouble for asking it. As the old saying goes those who do not move do not notice their chains. Or something like that.

As for Quillette it's hard to see how its reputation ever recovers.

We're dealing with a DeepOS problem of low empathy people. Re: Lehmann -- she's still an elite, and subject to the memetic principles outlined in this piece. If it looks like people are not in possession of their brains, well... maybe they aren't. Maybe they're just playing their role in the Matrix. https://empathy.guru/2021/08/22/elite-risk-minimization-and-covid-empathy-in-the-time-of-coronavirus-ix/

Love your work, Chuck. And you gained instant credibility when you did the 180 on masks and kept your original pro mask post up rather than try to memory hole it. I find your thoughts on all of this really fascinating.

Empathy is the academic blindspot -- so there's really not hardly good understanding of the connected nature of human existence, because academics really work on profound principles of fragmentation. We're screwed because our appointed observers can't understand themselves. Thanks for the kind words. And re: memory-holing stuff. Not the way I roll, of course.

I saw the writing on the wall for Quillette several years ago. They were militant atheists, and they always ends badly, full stop. Obviously one can be a good and decent atheist, but the ones who mirror the worst religious extremists will always end up like Claire sooner or later.

This reminds me of the private juvenile detention center scandals in some parts of the US. Juvenile court judges got kickbacks for sending juvenile offenders up the river to these places for a long stay at taxpayer expense...often for minor infractions.

Sending people who "might" be infected for a two week stay is a red flag.

Is there any doubt whatsoever in anyone's mind that leftist swine such as Comrades Biden, Harris, Newsom, Whitmer, Huchol, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseam would hesitate to do this here in the U.S. if given the chance?

How in hell did we get to a point where half the country votes for these people and supports things like vax mandates and passports, masking toddlers and all the rest?

And will literally believe anything, no matter how contradictory or absurd?

This is terrifying. Canada, too, has built "camps." At this point, I think we are far too many to herd us up. But this, from yesterday, this is also chilling:

This is Canada. New Brunswick. Coming everywhere, I am sure. They want to starve us out. See second point and second last point.

"The entire province will be in Level 1, the lowest level of restrictions, when the plan goes into effect Saturday. It includes the following rules and guidelines:

Informal indoor gatherings limited to 20.

Outdoor gatherings limited to 50 people.

➡️ Unvaccinated residents should avoid informal indoor gatherings.

Masks will be required in outdoor spaces when physical distancing can't be maintained.

Malls, grocery stores, salons must enforce physical distancing.

➡️ Malls, grocery stores, salons have the option of requiring proof of vaccination from all patrons.

Schools will follow existing plans at this time."

Set to last until SPRING!

When Maine's gov mandated masks for unvaxxed, our grocery chain told her they couldn't afford to enforce it. Then immediately removed their brand new replacement signage, stopped having person at entrance to enforce masking, stopped having person sanitize carts, stopped having person directing checkout line, stopped bleaching everything (I wore a mask just to protect my nasal passages from the burning stench)

It was if, after 18 months of total compliance, they woke up to the con game & refused to participate.

Gov had no choice but to back down.

We've had to be masked up here in Canada, everywhere indoors, since last summer. But this is new: allowing grocery stores to refuse to let in anyone without proof of vaccination. This is a whole other level of evil. Presently, Canadians who are not double injected are not allowed on planes, trains or ferries, including domestic routes. We are literally prisoners.

I just used up most of my SkyMiles for a trip to Sedona (I'm in the US). Heard the ghastly Leana Wen on NPR talking up domestic flight restrictions, and figured it's only a matter of time. Don't want my miles to go to waste, after we, the "unclean", are banned from flights.

Expand full comment

I feared things would go that way here. Planned to buy CSA's in that event & was going to notify the grocery chain when I learned of their refusal to comply. I suspect ut was because we produce about 80% of our own food in normal times. Many ( myself included) could grow significant amounts ourselves.

Plus many are well armed & know how to use them. Grocery stores would need extra security on top of all else.

In the meantime, stocked up heavily on dried & canned goods. Can last a while were things to head south.
