It cannot be ruled out it might be human nature to coerce others to do what you have already done because you feel insecure and underconfident about the possibility that what you have done is right.

If this is true, then forcing others to do things that you've already done might be a way to cope with uncertainty and existential insecurity. This doesn't lower the risk that what one did was wrong, just that you now have everyone on board and cannot take blame singularly.

What you describe sounds an awful lot like sin. The sinner has done wrong and does not wish to stand alone with his sin and be cast out. So he encourages others to sin like him and so assuages his guilt, for if all commit the sin, who is left to call him a sinner?

Sounds like textbook narcissism to me. The simplest and most painless route to correction after an error is acknowledgment of the error and the resultant course correction...unless you have a pathological fear of acknowledging your own errors. The narcissistic view of self is fixed--the person believes (unconsciously) that people are fundamentally and unchangeably either good or bad. Narcissists construct self-flattering fictions in order to avoid the crushing shame they experience whenever they aren't able to pretend they are THE BEST. Extremely narcissistic people will throw anyone and also anything--most notably faithfulness to reality--under they bus to preserve their ability to adhere to the fiction that they are basically perfect. A LOT of people are pathological narcissists because a lot of people do not experience intimacy and security in early childhood. In modernity, a woman is a total freak if she chooses to be a full time mother, exclusively breastfeed (no bottles), cosleep, wean naturally around age 4.5 yrs, and carry her child everywhere she goes for that 4.5 years. That is actually what young humans had almost 100% of the time for thousands and thousands of years. These are biological needs. Hardly anyone gets that kind of beginning anymore, and naturally we have a society full of people who have had to develop coping mechanisms in early childhood that carry on for decades or their whole lifetime, and those coping mechanisms are maladaptive and problematic. I think enabling mothers to raise children this way again would correct so much of what seems to be "wrong" with humans as a species.

That is one reason I try not to raise the subject. I can hear from a few people that is exactly what they feel - the anxiety of having a poison in your veins that cannot be taken out, and no one knows what will be in the future for them. If you get sick from a virus, even a new one, you have at least an idea what is going to come. But they have no idea.

I think we want to be careful about Simpson's paradox. The numbers he posted

"Unvaccinated - 257,357 cases, 722 deaths. 0.28% case fatality rate.

Vaccinated - 336,215 cases, 1,820 deaths. 0.54% CFR."

are aggregates. A majority of the unvaccinated cases were in children and they have a very robust immune system that drives down the averages for Case-Fatality Rates. The Vaccinated are much older.

On the other hand, what we can say confidently is that the "partially" vaccinated will never have a lower Case Fatality Rate than unvaccinated and that alone should make people pause.

Expand full comment

Aren't the partially "vaccinated" lumped in with the "unvaccinated?" And isn't it the case that one is not considered fully "vaccinated" until two weeks after receiving the second (soon it will third, and then fourth, etc.) dose? That is the way it is being done in most of these so-called statistical studies, and it raises the infection and death rates for the "unvaccinated" significantly. If the partially "vaccinated" and the fully "vaccinated" who received their second dose less than two weeks prior to falling ill or dying were categorized as "vaccinated," the infection and death rate for that group would be much, much higher.

Expand full comment

Why not just start calling ourselves the never vaccinated?

Expand full comment

This has me thinking about how few of us actually are never vaccinated, with any of the different types of vaccines to theoretically prevent various illnesses. I don't think I know a single adult who is never vaccinated. I am a health care practitioner so I've seen thousands of people's vaccine records. Talk about confounding the data and obliterating the control group. I mean, what might myocarditis, Guillain Barre, etc rates be in a truly never vaccinated control group? We may never know.

what statistic is he, a double jabbed 'breakthrough' case, an unvaccinated case or triple jabbed breakthrough, or something else these clowns may come up with?

It's easy to mock these deluded little fascists for their incoherent and violent devotion to their ideology, and we really should, but it's important to understand where they are coming from to understand what we are facing. Fo a long time I've been reading about fascism to understand what it is they see in modern day Western democracies but it's much simpler than any of that; they believe liberal democracies will always descend into violent, repressive fascism if not pushed to toward the communist utopia of equality for all. So not only are they fighting for the communist utopia bit fighting to protect themselves from absolute oppression.

Of course, they won't be able to tell you how being violent and oppressive in the name of "anti-fascism" is any better than, y'know, the violence and oppression of the fascism they're so afraid of.

Expand full comment

I think it's even simpler than that. Fascism is another form of collectivism (a particularly manic variety). Not all fascists want communism, but philosophically would see communism more favorable than anarchy (extreme individualism). Both communism and fascism are forms of collectivism, which is the left side of the ideological spectrum. The fact that they can be opposed to one another doesn't matter. You can certainly have rival collectives on the same side of the political/ideological spectrum. Assigning Hitler and fascism to "the right" is showing itself to be perhaps the biggest historical grifts of all time. No wonder so few understand it. As an individualist, it (fascism) never made sense to me. I didn't fully grasp it (and I tried) until the past year, as I've seen the same spirit at work, coming purely from the left. Surprise. Surprise.

Expand full comment

Although fascism is on the "right" side of communism. Maybe that's contributed to the confusion. Either way, it's left us philosophically incoherent, which certainly contributes to being blindsided and history "repeating itself".

Mike, you have summed up really well what I have been trying to tell people for years. I might borrow your post to quote, to strengthen my argument.

Expand full comment

Thanks for the encouragement. Very few have given this hypothesis credence. You have to be wiling to cut through a lot of BS and rethink a lot of things we were told and assumed were true, like fascism being a "right wing" phenomenon. In this particular example, we were left vulnerable and were blindsided. As long as our largest and most powerful institutions (collectives) were controlled by left-wing "liberals" (another red herring political buzz word), at least we'd never have fascism, right? We sure dodged a bullet by getting rid of that fascist authoritarian Trump, right? Pure philosophical idiocy. We were too disoriented and didn't see it. And I think those on the left truly believed what they were saying. True ideology is immune to political BS, and when the time is right, it will rise up show it's true colors. This is one of those times. We should be taking copious before partisan historians butcher the story and again leave us philosophically incoherent, disoriented and vulnerable.

Can't recall where I found this but here are some ism differences:

Socialism: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor.

Communism: You have two cows. You give them to the government, and the government then gives you some milk.

Fascism: You have two cows. You give them to the government, and the government then sells you some milk.

Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.

Nazism: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.

Ayn Rand wrote about this. She defined it as "Statism" in contrast to egoism, that is personal responsibility, self-sufficiency, libertarianism, and similar concepts now deemed archaic, selfish, "Un-Woke", "binary", unenlightened; liable to censure and banishment from politics, education, and medical practice.

Recall that the Nazi Party of Hitler has been translated in English as "National Socialist Party" as long as I can recall. The results are as you describe, no different.

Try this: Louis XIV- "L'Etat C'est Moi"; WEF- "La Terre C'est Nous."

The western structure of the corporate ownership of the governments of the US and EU, the Chinese structure of the CCP, and Putin's thugocratic hold in Russia are equivalent to Orwell's three (sort of ) antagonists in 1984.

There may be some hope left in India, I am not sure.
