Oh, Excellent! That's perfect. A cat did adopt us and she identified as she/her even though she was a biological male: it was much easier that way for my other male cat to tolerate her. Although everyone else in the neighborhood named him different names "Mr. Friendly," "Rastaman," "Puss and Boots," etc. I think he was a concat who just figured a way to be universally liked.
And she's a torbie! Like my beautiful cat whom I adopted from the local (no kill) shelter here when my lovely tuxedo cat passed on (as I mentioned yesterday to Janet).
Her mom had been brought to the shelter pregnant, and gave birth in the shelter. All of the siblings and mom had been adopted, but my little girl (adorable and sweet though she was, and is) was shy and afraid, and she hid when the rest of the kittens were meowing and begging for attention when a human approached. I'd seen the picture and description on petfinder.com, and after meeting the scared little girl, I had to bring her home. She was purring as I pet her in the meeting room, but periodically hissing at me too. Poor, confused girl, afraid of the new person but in serious need of some attention.
I made the right choice. She's affectionate and playful, and has long, silky fur. She's such a sweetheart, and quite a character. She's big on bunting (headbonks) as her form of greeting, and when she wants to lie down, she kind of unceremoniously throws herself at the ground... she's got her own way of doing things. She trills and chirps a lot rather than meowing, though she does those sometimes too.
She still becomes alarmed easily if there is an unexpected sound, and she still dashes out of the way when someone approaches as if they are determined to step on her, but she is back to playing and snuggling in a few seconds if it turns out to be nothing, which it always does.
Sounds like my little 14-year-old tuxedo male, rescued from a basement full of cats being hoarded by a crazy person, and who's still afraid of strangers, other cats, and any sudden movement. but when he's in his safe places, on the bed or on "his" chair, he's a rolling-over rub-my-tummy kinda guy. He also chirrups, chortles, and uses a guttural trill rather than a meow-- but he talks constantly, always up for a long conversation, the most vocal cat I've ever seen (heard). It's as if he's still trying to be heard over the din of all those other cats in that basement!
We need more Nuzzles in this world. Gato, thank you for the love link to this organization. And, more broadly, thank you for creating this cattitude community. This is actually the first time in 25 years of being on the interweb that I've actively participated in any online 'community.' I'm on the periphery of social media...and I've had to retreat even further away in the Covidian era. Since discovering you a few months ago, I must say that I now anticipate seeing bad cattitude in the ol' inbox quite a damn bit. I appreciate you and the folks on this stack. Love (and critical thinking!) wins.
El Gato Malo, how I wish I had any $$ to spare! But I'm old and broke ...but not woke... My heart goes out to all those animals, who didn't ask to be born into misery and hopefully are headed for joy and family, and to those dedicated heartful caretakers.
Both my kitties are true rescues. They've made my life so much better.
I help fund Big Fluffy Dog Rescue ( which rescues big fluffy dogs, not big or fluffy...hell...not dogs if they're bonded to the dogs they're rescuing...) so I know what it is to cry over a critter I'll never touch.
**You ask for so little, really, el gato malo... let's see if we can help this group save more muzzles to nuzzle, shall we? **
PayPal is the worst! Won't let me log into my account as I don't have a cell phone to receive a text. They refuse to call me on my land line. I hate PalPal. PayPal is unfriendly and hates everyone and everything but themselves, PayPal.
Hey Bad Cat. You should never feel bad about asking your BC family to help out. You've given us so much! You have no idea how deeply you've impacted our lives and given us a community. And today you reminded us of the power of love. So, sweet roll will get a little help from her internet feline family. Done!
Love it.. One of my favorite charities that I donate to is the Blind Cat Rescue. They take in blind, FLV, and FIV cats that nobody will take and give them a forever home.
Done. Thanks for bringing this organisation to our attention. I have a friend who does a lot of rescue work, so I give money to a variety of places just like this. And am glad they exist.
Many years ago, I adopted a cat who'd been set on fire. Someone brought her to the vet facility I took my pets to. As I had just lost a beloved cat, they urged me towards the injured little one, knowing it would be good for me to nurse a pet back to health after having guided one through its final months. Guess what? They were right.
Well as if I didn't like you enough already for your writing, this puts you over the top! Good friends of ours moved to Park City a few years ago, and being animal lovers and philanthropists, immediately got involved with Nuzzles. They invited us to the first gala they were involved with (we are from the east coast, so not a small effort just to get there) which was held at the Waldorf Astoria Park City that year. We met a litter of adorable puppies (our friends had fostered this litter and knew we wouldn't be able to resist them), and adopted a cute little boy that night who we named Waldorf, duh, but we call him Wally for short. We spent the next day visiting him at Nuzzles. His mom was rescued from a reservation with her belly hanging on the ground due to being so pregnant. Wally and his umpteen littermates (the mom was tiny, like a corgi, no wonder the belly was on the ground) were lucky enough to have been born in care, as they say, at Nuzzles. A few weeks after the gala our daughter flew out and brought him home. It is an amazing organization and I will definitely break out my checkbook because of your appeal! Wonderful!
this looks like an excellent cause, gato! i love animals so much. because any story of animal cruelty or hardship haunts me so deeply, i always donate to good animal causes anonymously. i don't want to be on mailing lists for these charities because i'll be faced with a new wave of anguish and horror every time i open my email. i just can't function like that.
is it possible for you to set up a way to collect donations for nuzzles from your gatopals here so i can donate without getting on the mailing lists of the organizations themselves?
I am also very very easily traumatized by abuse and cruelty.
I volunteer at our Loudoun County animal shelter, and also the areas in the county that host shelter animals for adoption. I adore doting on them, The shelter people already know I am the lady that does not want to hear the bad stories. ... just show me the baby and tell me what it needs.
Something that Gato did not mention: Nuzzles is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so your donation is tax deductible. Uncle Sam and your State of residence will help you pay for the contribution; presumably Nuzzles like most non-profits will send you a tax receipt at year-end.
In any event keep a copy of the donation receipt (you can print it after you contribute), mark it '501(c)(3)' and give it to your tax preparer next year at tax time.
Hey you got me - I love cats but I never donate to animal charities - but your post was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time! Unfortunately when I tried to donate it wouldn’t let me because I don’t have a US address. Is there any other way to donate?
For thirteen years we had the baddest-ass black lab. Absolutely fearless, he would jump into a raging surf and swirling river eddies without hesitation in pursuit of his beloved ball.
He was seemingly impervious to pain. Toward the end of his life he got cancer in his rear leg and had to undergo multiple surgeries and almost daily restitching of the wound for well over a month as it was on his paw and would not close. Never even a whimper.
Fiercely protective of our youngest, he instilled in the boy a life-long love of dogs and everything that comes with it.
We adopted him from a local lab rescue when he was just a pup. He had been found in a ditch on the side of a country road with a badly broken hind leg, where some bastard had left him to die.
Aaahhhhh, so el gato malo is really la gata mala...
it's complex. the original (on R in picture) was a gato, but he is no longer with us.
so she stepped in.
Does she identify as he/him?
think of it like broadway.
the role of "el gato malo" has been played by 2 felines.

Think about these likes as <3 from your readers :)...

I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING!
I know right?! Did not expect that this morning.
No, I AM NOT CRYING EITHER
No I am not crying either 😭😭

Also done. Had tonuse PayPal, because it wouldn't recognize a hyphen, if that helps anyone?
I used PayPal too. They didn't give me the option to say who sent me.
PayPal is the worst! Won't let me log into my account as I don't have a cell phone to receive a text. They refuse to call me on my land line. I hate PalPal. PayPal is unfriendly and hates everyone and everything but themselves, PayPal.
I had to go back and look for the ' mice type'...but PP did allow me to leave a msg. So of course I put " Bad Cattitude!"

Cried. Donated. Think even more of you now.
I find myself at an age where I prefer animals to people. This is a place where I can send money knowing it truly will make the world a better place.
Done. Thanks for bringing this organisation to our attention. I have a friend who does a lot of rescue work, so I give money to a variety of places just like this. And am glad they exist.

Little Sweet Roll is a soul sister of my Frankie. He too lost one of his ears when he was a wee kitten.

you can donate anonymously and/or use a burner e-mail.
nuzzles will not spam you unless you ask to be on lists.
thanks, gato!

also, you can use paypal if you want an extra layer of anon.
Thanks 🙌
same. I hate all cruelty.

Touched by this. I donate to numerous animal charities and looks like I will be adding another.

I just donated.
Good on you gato.
Obviously I cannot "like" this with all the pain in it. Just noting the excellence of your comment.
