Our best defense is a rational argument. Remind them that the vaccine is expiramental and you're not comfortable taking it until it has full FDA approval, speaking their own big Gov language. Be sensitive to their fear and ask that they be sensitive to yours (even if somewhat concocted). It's not easy getting through to them, but love and empathy can go a long way.

You're old enough to remember when individualists took part in group activities (organized by collectivists) because the alternative might've been torturing boredom. Enter the internet, on-demand entertainment, and thrilling virtual reality. Now we can shun such stifling group organization with their annoying busybodies and group leaders and still be mentally stimulated beyond anything a group activity could ever provide. It fit us just fine. Maybe the collectivists were lulled into following suit because of a lack of involvement. And maybe they simply aren't wired for it. Thus mental instability set it, and now they're lashing out. Just speculating. Been doing a lot of that for the past 16 months. No single answer seems to satisfy.
