and they're trashing canadians... some of the most peaceful (and sometimes quite boring) people on the planet. Nothing credible about that article. When american medias are trashing Trump supporters or just american conservatives in general that kinda work out because americans have that reputation of being more bombastic, extravagant, gun-loving citizens on the international level. but canadians ? no ... I like to see mainstream medias destroying themselves even more on the canadian trucker issue. The bullshit is crystal clear.

FWIW, Catherine Austin Fitts clearly demonstrates that, when the U.S. government determined that its financial books could remain secret, the ability of U.S. citizens to know what their government was doing was thoroughly compromised. Secrecy is the mortar that glues nefarious governments to oppress their citizens. Secrecy is the enemy of good government.

I agree but did anyone actually read their article? What did they mean by toxic? By the way, it’s obviously disrespectful of WaPo but still I’d like to know what the meaning was.

And, just as an aside, toxic is a bioweapon clot shot, toxic are carcinogenic, oxygen depriving masks, toxic are PCR tests, toxic are Fauci ‘s snd Walensky’s lies, toxic is the narrative, toxic all of it toxic. But the Canadian Truckers toxic? Huh? That’s a new low for MSM. A new low.

And I want to warn people that if you see a guy with a Nazi flag in their pictures , it’s a plant and a lie. The good, decent Canadians are calling this guy out. He’s either just part of a small group (there were 5 people together in the shot captured by MSM or a tweeter; one flag) representing a very very small group or were an Antifa type plant trying to discredit good people.

Expand full comment

‘Toxic’ has the same meaning as ‘racist’ - that is to say none. It’s a pejorative flung at somebody you don’t like because they won’t think like you tell them, as an ad hominem attacks to demonise the person so whatever their argument, challenge or reason must be evil because an evil person is doing it.

People protesting for their Common Law Rights (Canada is a Common Law based society) are ‘toxic’, but people smashing up the streets, looting, abusing other citizens over skin tone and things that happened 200 years ago, are glorious heroes.

That is the strange working of the minds of what passes for the (self-proclaimed) elite, these days.

Expand full comment

Excellent comments about “toxic” and “racist”. Goes along with all the other words whose definitions are quietly being changed to conform to the narrative of a side that is as far from “objective” as I can see.

Was just looking at Reuter’s in regard to Trump supporting candidates “for vengeance”. Excuse me, any Trump quotes, really? Vengeance? That word bespeaks MSM continuing the non-objective narrative. While I’m not a total supporter of all of Trump I can’t stand this verbal characterization. He is doing the exact same thing many others do on left side, supporting candidates he agrees with.

Even Wisconsin assembly members initiated a new challenge to the November 2020 outcome. I haven’t read it yet, I want to look at it, but The assembly members said it shows absolute proof of voter fraud. Neither baseless nor without evidence as the MSM continues to say. And I saw videos of Georgia fraud.

Two quotes from the article (https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/01/28/canada-must-confront-toxic-protest-freedom-convoy/):

"The leadership of the group is promising to remain peaceful, but the convoy is made up of many individuals and far-right groups that have embraced the convoy as a Canadian version of the Jan. 6 rioting in the United States. The movement shares an affinity with Trumpist toxic authoritarianist politics."

"Time and time again we learn the lesson, or at least come across it, that teaches us that rage-soaked antigovernment types can’t be reasoned with. This time around, the convoy has produced an incoherent “memorandum of understanding” premised upon a misunderstanding of government and absurd demands. Of course, the memo should be ignored. It’s the product of a temper tantrum."

When the media in Canada first mentioned a comparison to Jan 6, it was pretty clear that the convoy needed to watch out for instigators and infiltrators.

I’m not shocked at all the celebrities that have come out to support the vax mandates (they are bought and paid for, the same as politicians, one must see them less as individuals and more as a brand) but when dr Martin mentions Yo-Yo Ma, I kept waiting for the punchline.

Dr Goebbels did indeed make a statement with that meaning, but his point gets lost in modern interpretation.

The point was that all debate, all arguments, all rethoric and media are propaganda. They cannot ever be anything but propaganda, they must be understood and handled as propaganda no matter your own stance on an issue or actual facts.

Take the WP. Let's say you are to write an article, 2 500 words, for them. Topic: masks, Covid and spread of viruses.

It is completely impossible for you to cover all the possible angles. Do you focus on the medical side, how viruses work and how an aerosol spreads in a closed environment? If so, you'll have a highly specialised technical article no one will read - too technical, nothing that grabs the imagination. The law of least resistance applies: you will write the text the easiest way: "human interest", some talking points from official sources, your own anecdotes and feelings and hey presto it's "let's go grab lattes for what a minimium wage labour slave makes from two hours of work"-time.

Because even choice of topic and what you choose to edit from your text is part of the propaganda even when we endeavour to tell the truth.

All communication aims to convince and affect: hence communication is a tool to enforce will. That was his point and it is completely devoid of any political leaning, it is simply a statement of fact. Corollary to that is if you can convince others that only "the other side" uses propaganda, your audience's defences go down.

Expand full comment

Well stated. I have a lit degree myself and we learnt some of this in studies. While I did not study or acquire a degree in propaganda, we did learn of some of the uses and limitations of the written word (that's all they had centuries ago, but the basic principles probably apply to all intercourse.) Consider your 2500 word article example and generalize it. Even if a narrator's intent is to be completely truthful and objective, it is simply impossible to write in ultimate detail about every person, place, thing or event in a time period. As such, his account is by necessity incomplete. One could even argue that it is a lie by omission; to judge from that unattainable standard where truth = knowing and reporting everything.

Another, more important in my opinion angle: the narrator's biases, points of view. These too inevitably color a narrative, influencing what is spoken of and what is left out, what is spun one way and what is spun the other way.

With the exception of writing that is intended as and (hopefully) plainly recognized as fiction, then, all writing is at best an incomplete record. At worst it is entirely the writer's hopes, fears and other emotions spewed out in words. More likely, it is some blend of those two. Writing is just narrative, propaganda if you like. Claims to truth must be judged against objective reality. I can say "2+2=5" with complete artistic license. But to assert its truth invites others to test the validity of the claim.

On ivermectin - we actually took it as Covid finally got us in the last week (and was very mild). I can’t prove the ivermectin helped, but I can read charts, studies and listen to actual MDs. I don’t take medical advice from journalists, nor do I take it from politicians, which is why we are unvaccinated and now immune pure bloods. 22 countries have approved ivermectin, in whole or part, specifically for Covid-19. 72 for the treatment of viruses.

A major (less corrupt) Japanese pharmaceutical company came out yesterday and said ivermectin should be the treatment of choice for all coronaviruses. Then there is the below link.

I think Alex dug his heels in early on ivermectin and hasn’t really kept up on that (his bias). I expect him to get slaughtered in the comments when he writes his “I think ivermectin doesn’t work” piece. But…. I also expect him to acknowledge his subscribers and no one is talking about making ivermectin a mandate. The pushes to ban it here have nothing to do with Alex, and everything to do with the fact politicians are owned by big pharma. I don’t mind dissenting opinions.

Just be aware that Epoch is not immune to influence. The accusation is made that it's a "CIA paper" and perhaps it is. I too am an occasional (free) reader. At best, you are getting a different point of view than what the Times, Post, etc. bleat. The very fact that you agree with a periodical's point of view indicates you are letting down your guard, your critical reasoning skills. This doesn't mean they are liars. It does mean, say I, that one should always keep some skepticism in reserve. Nobody is above suspicion.

Expand full comment

I disagree with your assertion I’m “letting my guard down.”

My affinity for Epoch Times has nothing to do with “agreeing” with anything. On the Chinese side I’ve learned a lot about the culture that I didn’t know at all before reading it. There isn’t a way to agree or disagree in advance of reading about a subject I knew absolutely nothing about at all.

On the Covid side they have supported their articles with actual data and actual outcomes, with links to source documents. “Agreeing” has nothing to do with it. I appreciate the paper has been willing to cover topics others haven’t and has actually engaged in journalism reporting on actual outcomes.

Truth is my point of view. An accurate record of reporting factually observed outcomes. Yes, I have more faith in an article that links to source documents and data is not “letting my guard down.” It’s my expectation. Epoch Times consistently does that.

I’ll happily pay for someone to present evidence that conflates with my current understanding of just about anything. Thats where learning occurs. It strains credulity to claim that my observation they have supported more honest journalism, and based their articles in facts they support with actual evidence more frequently than any other media institution I’ve seen in the past two years is not anyone “letting their guard down.”

I wonder if "toxic" is a usage designed to trigger their readers already hyperactive overfiring behavioral immune systems https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioral_immune_system I was reading Randy Thornhill's book on parasite stress just before the pandemic exploded--I realized that "drain the swamp" (I take NO political position, its all just an orchestrated Punch and Judy show) is a disease prime, as people drained swamps to get rid of disease carrying mosquitoes, intended to subtlely portray the opposition (Machiavellian Commedia dell'arte) as disease carrying. There are solidarity convoys in Bolivia and Brazil and the US truckers, I read, are going to head for DC, despite how the MSM has made sure a January 6 hypnotic insurrection cue is in a headline somewhere every day, like a perpetual warning, waterdrop torture, against sedition. "Toxic" to what? Sauron and the orcs?

It makes more sense once you understand that WaPo is a CIA run rag.

can they just show me one "deplorable" because so far, I haven't seen one. And even if they find one, so what. The left is full of dangerous people.

Ah the Basket of Deplorables did Hillary in. Let us hope Trudeau’s Fringe with Unacceptable Opinions is equally (un) successful.

WaPo got their tagline wrong too. It's freedom that dies in darkness. "Democracy," i.e. mob rule, thrives in it. That's why WaPo advocates for mob rule over freedom every single day.

Expand full comment

Democracy is like managed mob rule. When the managers feel that their control is slipping, they screech that democracy is under threat, and they are entirely correct whenever their grip has, in fact, slipped.

It's the proverbial 9 people out at dinner where 5 (or more) decide which 4 (or fewer) pay the bill. Democracy is only in danger when you're worried about having to pay.

We can't go on like this. Their religion and culture needs to be destroyed without pity or mercy.

Toxic freedom, doubleplus good news speak.

Who believes these papers anymore?

The old slogans are outdated. Down with "Freedom Is Slavery". Up with Freedom Is Toxic.

Love how every article is a shining demonstration of the tagline.

It sounds like the truckers are preventing ivermectin overdosed patients from getting to the overcrowded hospitals. 🏥🥴🙃🤪

The Wapo? I did Nazi that coming!

The institutional left, exemplified by those that masquerade as media rather than more like political operatives, are so far removed from the people who work for a living such as truckers that they just can't force themselves to talk to them for fear of losing faith in their preconceived and published narratives.

Seeing the debate in CA Parliament suggests the truckers will achieve their goals. More and more Canadians are becoming aware that it's OK to complain - they are not alone anymore. Fractured politics allowed Trudeau to rule, but his despot days are numbered.

Ah, talkin' truth to power, good job, Wapo.

I gotta ask, though, was "Toxic 'Freedom Convoy'" out of the White House talking points memo, or did y'all come up with that one on your own?

Makes you wonder, has the press always been an obedient lapdog for their betters and we just didn't know it because there weren't alternatives, or is this a more recent development.

I fear it's likely far more the former than the latter.

I wish that were the case but I'm afraid things have become a lot worse in the last decade or two

Well, not hardly. Take a look at NYT articles on the Iraq-Iran war in the '80s. Goodies and baddies kept switching like Spy vs Spy depending on Saddam's usefulness to us or the opposite. That's when I first began smelling rats...

They're working to arrange a Freedom Convoy here, from California to DC. That's why the WaPo is really panicking.

My local news station briefly mentioned the convoy as if it was a non event but with a disappointed look said the protesters were defacing monuments etc. I wrote the anchor and said defacing monuments is what we do in the states. They have been picking up their own litter and when a monument had been sprayed they wiped it clean. (I saw the video) I continued that our govt and media has been dividing the country to make the vax/unvax hate each other but the truckers are all united together for a common good.

It’s gross and disgusting I can’t believe I really can’t believe it’s the USA today very discouraging some days but we just have to fight for what’s important in the Good will triumph over evil😃

"Toxic Freedom Convoy"? Just further proof, if any was necessary, that the Washington Post is staffed with psychotics. Right now there is very little in this country to be proud of. The Freedom Convoy is about the only thing that gives anyone here who hasn't been captured by the Mass Formation Psychosis hope for the future.
