To be clear, my internal jury is still out as to whether this was a legit, straight-up bioweapon in the first place or whether "we're just doing gain of function research to be better able to fight it if it achieves the kind of potency it will achieve when we do gain of function research on it" stupidity.

I do know, either way, it has functioned as probably the most effective bioweapon ever deployed by humans in history, accidental or otherwise, and that China is laughing all the way to the bank like if Wile E. Coyote got the roadrunner to open a box that said "ATOMIC BOMB" on it by writing "BIRD SEED" on the front and turning it around.

So in the end, it doesn't matter too much whether it was intended to be a bioweapon or not, beyond the charges that should be leveled against the people that deserve to be executed for it.

this is exactly my take on it. it doesn't matter in the slightest what the intention was, it's here and it's wreaking havoc. and the vaccine campagne is wreaking even more, as per your sharp and succinct comment.

I am absolutely meaner online than I need to be. It's in the username. I don't normally get to let loose. :)

Yeah, but I know I get too mean sometimes. I've lost a lot- less than many- from this and have a very hard time sympathizing with the cultists.

I think it is very important to remember that we have all been brutalized this past 2 years and our individual ability to handle it all is vastly divergent. There is no one size fits all in this situation. Grace for you and grace for me. Grace for as many other people as you can manage. And if you can't, grace for that too. Neither judgement nor approval is helpful, but understanding doesn't have to be either of those. I enjoy seeing your memorable handle on my new favorite platform every time I'm here! Random aside, I went to a Guttermouth concert as a teen--I had called the radio station to make a request and just happened to win tickets! Never ever won when I tried, but happened to get lucky one day. Ah those were the days. Meanwhile, all my punk rock friends have sold their soul to the actual devil. Trying to raise my own little rebels who won't sellout.

OMG, amazing luck with that. I think parents are basically the ONLY people with a shot at teaching a developing child to think for themselves.

Yes, of course teachers can help. (Or do tremendous damage.) But if the impetus for critical thinking doesn't exist in one's own household, good education won't accomplish anything.

OMG that you know Guttermouth! I loved them but my name is actually from the Bree Sharp folk song of the same name.

I have gotten very, very poor at forgiveness and patience. Worse than I have ever been. This has uglified me a lot, and I admit it.

I hope we manage! With or without the help of teachers and school. Well I guess I need to look up that song! Never heard of it! Hey, admitting is a strong move. I was already uglified by the betrayal of my father and it made life very rough for a couple years. I knew it but didn't know what to do about it. My hubby found and paid for a body and mind reset this year and it was just the ticket. But all of that crap also enabled me to finally see what is going on and it's just been an amazing and emotional journey that I really wouldn't trade for anything, even peace and quiet. What my kids are learning from all of this is priceless. Stoic philosophy has been helpful. We will make it through all this and we will gain from it. And if we don't, well, then we'll be dead.

I don't know that we will all make it through this. Many people will die from vaccines. In the coming years, many people may be killed by the state for various reasons.

Assuming everything is a life lesson and not an existential threat isn't always reasonable to me- as well as I understand Stoicism.

Totally fair point. To me it's a mindset adjustment that helps me get through the day. I fight existential threats as much as possible (which isn't much), but accept that I may lose the war. This works most days, but definitely not all.
