now, i am just a kitten and not a big important WHO official, but it seems to me that if they grant patent waivers and allow generic vaccines right away then the companies that invented these drugs and got them to market so quickly cannot recoup their investments and make a good return on capital.
do you think that maybe that would make them less willing to invest so much time and money and delay or forgo other projects to solve a problem like this next time?
There is a staggering lack of awareness of basic economics in the "take it from the rich crowd". If COVID-19 is/was the existential threat that we've been told it is for so long, shouldn't we be celebrating the Pharma R&D divisions that save us, and not punish them?
True, but at this point, I feel like IP waivers would be sort of poetic justice to the folks who spent the last year telling us Vitamin D and zinc were dangerous.
If the mRNA and/or Adenovector approaches prove safe (data may be available in 4/2023) the tech is pretty easy to duplicate. One possible good outcome of the fake panic is moving mRNA up about 5 years. The adenovector was in use on ebola and dengue just recently and it may have been raced forward but nt as much a mRNA. mRNA approach to cancer is benefitting as well.
a\Also Moderna's mRNA was involved in DARPA Pandemic Prevention Platform project, so it may have some taxpayer interest in the patent.
Biden will just nationalize the industry and command them to innovate. Problem solved.

...and HCQ was 100% fatal. You make an excellent point.
And Ivermectin...and Vitamin C...
