i've never been on the receiving end of artillery or aerial bombing, but human reaction to those are supposed to be hard to understand and diverse among individuals.
They just like to keep the mask at the ready in case their superhero vision spots a delta, (or other harmful greek letters), then they can don the mask properly and unlock its mythical super powers.
I have a woman in my outdoor water aerobics class that wears a mask in the pool. I do appreciate she color coordinates it with her swimsuit of the day.
I told a young server to just "go for it" last week when he was wearing his mask below his nose in an optional setting. I think his mom is probably telling him to, or something....
Alternate view here. Masks have continued to be required here in some places, and I have gone along with that... sort of. But after 10 minutes or so of being masked, I often experience mild nausea, hence sneak it under my nose. I would be more likely to just ignore the requirement, but I have allergies. In grocery stores for example, there is something that nearly always makes me sneeze. So if I feel a sneeze coming on, I just lift the mask over my nose. Catches a few droplets, arguably creates aerosols. Since I have naturally acquired immunity it doesn't even matter. But there are some people who are very afraid of getting COVID and I don't like to add to their pain. I know, pandering to the ignorant, but still...
Stockholm syndrome.
After Covid, we are renaming this Manhattan Syndrome...
i do not know... humans react in strange ways!

Science is real men can get pregnant?
And chest feed.
There were 2 young men at our mask optional church last weekend with masks pulled down to their chins. I have no idea why someone would do that.
They were sitting with a 3rd man who wore his the whole time, so maybe that's the clue. But I really don't know.
All right, kitten. You just try wearing a mask under _your_ nose. You'll find it takes great skill.
