I had a comment recently that more or less said that they "can't wait until "boomers" have died off and aren't in charge anymore". Um...be careful what you wish for. Most of these young "leaders" are not boomers. And so far from what I've seen I'd much rather have an "old boomer" that still believes in liberty and the bill of rights than any of these young "leaders" that have been to Klaus' special school...

That's somewhat true and somewhat not true.

The year the person was born in determines how much hateful indoctrination that person received in via the government school system (K-12-uni). The more people are indoctrinated with hatred (and lack of basic knowledge) the more the embrace despotism, as a means to destroy all the things they hate.

Therefore the younger a person is, the more despotic tendencies he tends to have. QED.

You do have a point. More parents should homeschool if they possibly can, to avoid the brainwashing.

Brainwashing is inevitable, just whether it's parents or state curriculum...

I saw home ed mummies organising"healing power of chrystals" classes for 5 year olds. This was in our Cheshire home-ed groups, add to that how flakey they were, and the fact our son seemed to get on better with school kids in playparks than other home-eds and we put him into school.

We monitor what he's taught, all pretty good so far.

There are always outliers in everything and, though I'm in the US not the UK, homeschooling has mostly caring parents who want the best education for their kids. I wish I had been homeschooling during covid - my kids wouldn't have suffered as much as they did since they had moved to a public high school after we homeschooled the first 8 years (10 if you count Kinder and pre-K). I have always believed, however, that the most important thing, no matter where your kids receive their education, is the involvement of the parents, so good on you for doing so!

UK refugee's avatar

Yeah, HomeEd is much less common in the UK that US, even by rate per million.

I think we've been transported to a new paradigm though, we're moving nation next. Actively looking to decouple from UK society at adult and child level as it stands. Interesting times.

Expand full comment
V. Dominique's avatar

That isn't necessarily true. The Civil Rights movement, for example, was supported by a significant percentage of people who were raised to hate or at the very least distrust others because of their race. The children of Nazis often did everything in their power to distance themselves from the hate they were raised in.

Expand full comment
HardeeHo's avatar

I quite disagree "significant percentage of people who were raised to hate". It has only been since the Civil Rights movement that we became somewhat obsessed with race. Growing up in a segregated community, I didn't hate others just accepted the system for what it was - separate but equal was the fiction. The movement created change because we understood the unfairness even in communities that were defacto segregated as in large Northern cities. Afterwards aside from LBJ's colossal modern plantation scheme, we were slowly growing towards better equality until Mr

Obama arrived to stoke a new set of wounds to be reopened.

The growing trend toward socialist notions were a product of the 60's unrest and a loss of trust in government that has been growing ever since. We have been nudged steadily over those years. We are awaking to what has happened as government has become less representative. Even staunch liberals are beginning to understand the damage. Humans resist change, any change, so some diehards are still stuck but the trend in happening.

The bots on Twitter want to imagine they remain influences, but I can sense change as people examine truth. It seems the incompetence of Biden's team has become too obvious to ignore.

Expand full comment
V. Dominique's avatar

As you say, we were slowly growing towards better equality. So why have so many who grew up during that time embrace the hatred that is being pushed by "woke-ism"?

Also, I could argue that the trend towards socialist notions began with the "cultural Marxism" of the Frankfurt school, and that the people who came of age in the 60's were the first generation to be indoctrinated into those notions by university professors. Many of the people who led the counterculture in the 60's (Timothy Leary, Alan Ginsberg, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, etc.) were not boomers.

Expand full comment
HardeeHo's avatar

I also am at 82 not quite boomer but was in SE Asia as the protest movements grew in those times. That seemed to create the people you cite. I suspect my friends in their 70's (boomers) don't embrace the wokesters. They seem mostly puzzled by the anger.

But the socialist trend and the woke mob I see as two different things. The socialists seem to believe that perfection can be had despite all evidence and are clueless about human nature. As educated people, aside from group think, I can't imagine why they refuse to see history. The woke bunch seem to be angry at the fact life is just too easy for them. But I'm not a psychologist so I don't get it. Having to strive for life itself reveals what things may be important; a lesson they seem to have received.

The indoctrination experienced by those growing up since 2000 has made them vastly more dangerous than "boomers" who at least were able to experience a computer and cell phone free childhood. The sense of freedom to think and do what you wanted back then was vastly more and making it much more likely that they wouldn't go along with what's happening today. Of course on an individual person by person level there have always been greedy sociopaths. I remember growing up in the 50s, 60s and 70s and not feeling like I had to be looking over my shoulder all the time or caring what others think. Now we have the surveillance society on steroids courtesy of cheap omnipresent cameras. There used to be a semblance of privacy, now no longer. It was a time that actual court orders were deemed needed to spy on you and if they were going to do that they needed to physically "tap" your line. I've always considered myself a technophile but now its tantamount to worshiping the atomic bomb. Technology in the hands of sociopaths is absolutely a "weapon of mass destruction." In a way Ted Kaczynski was right even though his method was wrong.

One of your phrases evokes this: in one of the original "Planet of the Apes" movies (1970s series) that was a plot device of one of the films: the few remaining decadent humans literally worshiped the hydrogen bomb of ancient times. The analogy is apt as a stand-in for science worship, as the atom bomb was surely the greatest scientific and technical achievement of its time, nearly 80 years ago. As someone who has studied literature 🧐 I can say with some authority: often our greatest truths are to be found in our fiction. They damned sure aren't easily found in the mainstream media these days. 🙁

To a large extent this is what every generation says. As a late Boomer, I take no offense. I had similar ideas in my youth. Well, like it or not young folk, some day you will be in charge, and it will be you who make decisions. One of the hardest lessons of life is that Reality rarely cashes all the checks our optimistic (in these times: dictatorial, despotic, delusional) little selves write. Account overdrawn.

Allow me to rewrite that metaphor for the younger generation who probably has never seen a check. 💩 Your credit card limit is not infinity. Reality at some point will say "transaction declined" often at the most inopportune moment. Coming soon (indeed, already here in select areas). You can't access your funds, not because you've spent them, but because Big Brother has determined that you are a terrorist or some other criminal and thus not entitled to your own property.

The events are continuing to prove - to the dismay of those that believe in liberty-focused Constitutional countries - that the police are NOT friends to freedom and liberty by and large.

This could end in Canada tomorrow and in the US if police forces would have balls and stand for what their oaths demanded. Instead - the majority - are acting as jackboots for government thugs. Yes - there are outliers but they aren’t the norm. In the US and in Canada the police have stood with government mandates and in Australia they’ve become the SS.

While I have more faith that small town cops in Canada and the US are less friendly in general to mandates, many have still proven to be weak willed and following the orders of inept and power hungry politicians.

The folks in Ottawa need to do what MLK told his followers to do. Hold hands and do not punch back - let the cameras show government thugs dragging old people, and peaceful protestors away. Let the people see police dogs being sicked on peaceful people. Hopefully then more of the hearts and minds of people and perhaps law enforcement will come around.
