Don't think I'll go back, but I'm glad to know that there are green-haired lunatics losing more of their minds.

Expand full comment

Yeah, what is with the green hair? Although I’ve a sister with purple hair who is also apoplectic today.

Expand full comment

Maybe hair color denotes which of he 28 genders they are.

Expand full comment

That’s what I was thinking. Or maybe it just means they like ugly hair.

Expand full comment

I thought it was 96. With a pronoun for each one.

Expand full comment

Oops! I knew the number changed, but I guess I'm too old and too dumb to understand.

Expand full comment

You might be right. I'm old too, and may be misremembering.

I understand transitioning folks wanting to be called by the pronoun of their target sex/gender. What I don't get are the non-binaries who don't want to be either one, and think we need dozens of different pronouns to cover that, else mortal insult.

I’m so confused… I guess that means that I am normal! when it all starts making sense, I’ll get very worried… 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

You owe it to yourself and the world to provoke her. Seriously. Mess with her. Just keep bringing up all the people who've been banned that you now read on Substack.

"Did you see that new article by Dr Malone? Oh right he's not on Twitter and you don't read Substack. I wonder if he'll go back?"

Come on. You know you want to. Channel your inner "bad kitten" :)

what really SUCKS, is 10 years ago it was fun to have colors in my hair, just for sporting events and parties or what ever. BUT since the alphabet gang appropriated the hair color thing, I wouldnt be caught dead doing that now. I don't want to be misconstrued. Seahawks and Sounders games had TONS of blue or green hair for solidarity, but I can't align with the irritatingly vengeful group that is now dying their hair to match their horrible attitude.

In the late 80s and 90s I would have one side of my head, grow it out and shave the other side. I would bring reusable bags to the grocery store and was mocked for being a tree hugger. I was a vegetarian and accused often of being a political vegetarian (whatever that was at the time) and I dressed what the trend today is called boho……I was made fun of, name called…..so I feel your dismay!!!

I almost want to tell them to stop ripping the true counter culture off…..maybe we were the original hipsters!

I think I may join up as soon as it's clear the censorship is gone. It ought to be fun for a while. Also there's a lot of legit info sites on there, like my local fire department, and it would be nice to not have to use nitter to check manually if they have posted anything when I see smoke. You may have observed I don't live in the wettest climate.

I don’t think I will go Twitter. Substack is better for long pieces. And we owe them a lot.

Expand full comment

I suspect the average IQ of the commentariat at Substack is significantly greater than the apparent average at twitter. As are the apparent literacy rates and educational levels. I will think about signing up on the "new" twitter. Maybe. In time.

Expand full comment

Diversity of thinking needs to reach all, even the hard of thinking.

Expand full comment

I think alot of the Higher IQ folks got banned from twitter. So yes, twitter dumbed down their service to accommodate the increasingly stupid followers.

Much of it is obviously deliberate. I’ve communicated with 2 who were cannily intelligent but ignored reasoned debate. Something like a debate with Joseph Mengele. Intelligent but evil.

I’m with you Wild Bill. I find it is still best not to trust though

Expand full comment

Hard work not trusting anyone, ever. Do you trust ElGatoMalo?

Can Twitter rebuild trust? Yes, very quickly. The alogrthm gets open sourced... It'll blow people's minds what terrible biases have been codes into it. Really ugly stuff. Will be the News story that keeps on giving this year.

Expand full comment

And Elon Musk, by doing so, will make Twitter worth easily twice what it is today... earning himself (and his investor partners) a nice little return on their investment.

Expand full comment

The real question is: would you go back if they allowed it? I won't.

Expand full comment

i think it's highly synergistic with substack.

this place is great for long form content and i like it here. definitely going to stay.

but i miss the ability to go head to head with the bobbleheads, experts, and politicians.

here, they feel little need to engage with you and we all risk getting echo-chambered by being surrounded by mostly like minded folks.

to get out and affect the debate, you have to engage with all sides.

having a twitter account too big to easily duck is a useful seat at a useful table.

and the ability to lay out complex ideas here and wield them there would be potent.

you el gato malo and tes are the cause of my composure during the scamdemic.

They ain't the ones who needed you.

Absolutely, if we want to be influencing actual policies, we need actual people.

The narrative needs to be allowed to run fairly higher upstream to cause the powerful rivers of thought to flow naturally through the valley of reason.

I check in every few days on Twitter. Too much outrage porn there. I wasn’t even aware of bad cattitude on Twitter. I think there’s a better community on Substack that can be grown by linking Substack articles on Twitter.

Expand full comment

For a while my Twitter was used almost exclusively for posting Substack links to the banned. I was axed soon after.

Expand full comment

Twitter is a toxic sewer where sad, angry leftists vent their irrational rage. It is not meant for civilized people engaging in rational conversation.

Expand full comment

I am grateful to have found substack, especially this home. I don’t feel so alone in this sea of stupidity and corruption.

Expand full comment

It has indeed been exactly that. Comments in this thread would seem to indicate a degree of hope that, under Mr. Musk's guidance, the forum may evolve into a platform for the exchange of ideas.

Expand full comment

Well, sure. But stepping carefully through the fetid swamp enabled civilized people to find the rational conversations happening here. And now them other folks is Rumpelstiltskining themselves all over it.

Expand full comment

Agreed. I encountered some great people on Twitter. A few I count as friends now. They are thoughtful, insightful, skeptical, rational. But they are a tiny minority in that mostly disgusting cesspool.

Expand full comment

But that's true of life in general.

Expand full comment

Hopefully Musk will give it the Augean stable treatment.

Not leftists, the correct term is Neoliberals.

neoshitlibs to be exact

Yes, shitlibs is the less kind substitute word for neoliberals. And note they ain't left. Unless you are so foolish as to claim identity politics is left. They are often more right wing than conservatives. Pro Big Corporate all the way. Pro War. Pro MIC. Pro Globalism. Pro no borders. No wonder they are now allied with the Neocons.

Expand full comment

"I was axed soon after." That is a badge of honor. Wear it with pride.

Expand full comment

And now here we all are, gleeful...

Expand full comment

To me it is cause for celebration. Yes, Elon Musk is an enigma, some call him a loose cannon. They said the same about DJT, remember? I think this is a big moment, the tide may be turning and it can only get better from here. His views seem clear to me - unless he's a lying psychopath. And haven't we had enough of those where we can now smell them at 100 yards?

Expand full comment

Trump was a loose cannon and his inability to control his worst impulses when it mattered most was what made it so easy to take him down.

Expand full comment

I myself don't consider it was all that easy to bring him down, he took a hell of a lot of blows. Trump was surrounded by traitors from Day One, and he was in no way prepared for the diabolically concerted effort against him (were any of us?). It is true that he sometimes played into their hands by not being so good at holding his tongue (how I would wince), but that was also what made him who he was - a flawed man who loved the people and was and is loved in return by so many. His enemies were gunning for him so hard, it was phenomenal that he stayed upright and got as much done as he did. I always envision an old lion surrounded by jackals, attacking him, nipping at all sides, and even then it took covid and the Big Cheat to bring him down. Hopefully Musk, who I am convinced is a decent man, will be just as smart and just as slippery (if not even more so), will stay frosty and beat them at their own games. But then again, he's not the President. At least not yet.

It's actually quite telling that they're so terrified of even a moderate move against total censorship. As far as I'm aware Musk wants everyone to attach their posts with their real life identity.

Given that we've already seen countless instances of people's posts being used against them I'm not sure trading anonymity for less moderation is a good deal in the long run.
