Disgusting. I despise Hollywood. It's so hard to enjoy watching TV and movies any more.

If anything, the unwashed masses are finally learning how objectively worthless most of these people are. They are also learning that LeBron doesn't care about you. Hopefully. a mass rejection of celebrity worship culture will be included in the aftermath of this experience.

It would be wonderful to see a new counter-culture which repudiates the rich and famous, yes.

Expand full comment

Not New, Vida. I've been part of that counter-culture for decades.

Just remember their purpose in the world: to entertain us. They're not, as a general rule, rich and famous because of superior intellect or superior moral foundation. They have a talent. Be it a talent to run fast, be big, look good, memorize a script, play a musical instrument loudly, whatever - these things make them very good at these things, and not beacons of leadership in any other area.

And for the rich and famous who've forgotten: it's those "little people", sometimes called "fans", who have made your fame and fortune. Your job is to entertain, not judge, lead, dictate to or condemn. It is the people you entertain that provide for your position and who, faster than you think, return you to obscurity. Just sayin'

You make my point better than I could. Not wishing for it at all. Just point out, poorly, how the left has sold out. The old left would have been creating alternative media. Now, they are the media, pimping for “the man!”

So disappointing

That's probably why Abbie Hoffman committed suicide in 1989 after coming out of exile. Jerry Rubin and the rest of Hoffman's counter-culture radical comrades of the 60s had become entrenched members of the establishment. He saw then that looking to youth as a change agent was futile. It was a lost cause.

Expand full comment

Wasn't there something odd about his 'suicide'?

Not so much. Trudeau, Jardis, Kamalla Harris, (and the list goes on and on) are not from that counter culture. Of course the real monsters at the top like Schwab, Gates and others are from that era, but the ones who are out in front pushing the agenda are not. I think too many of us get our generations mixed up. As I mentioned recently... there are some "Boomers" who are only 58 years old. I'm sorry, but that may seem old to someone in their 20's and 30's, but it is definitely not "old" per se. I don't care if someone is 20 or 80... if they have wisdom, are pro liberty and have common sense, I'm on their side. And there are a *lot* of us "old counter culture people" who have been railing against the madness for our entire lives. Especially the last couple of years.

Great comment. I single out my generation, I’m 74, because they’re the ones that were the vocal free speech, anti-war, crowd, on who’s watch a lot of this shift took place as they aged, started making money, moving into more powerful positions.

Seems their “spawn,” the X-ers, etc. sought to carry the torch in the form of anti-GMO, anti-big pharma, and, anti-war, (unless it’s a war started by “their side”), but now many align with a vaccine that may be altering their DNA, an ultimate GMO?

I can’t help but think back to those warnings that our generation of the left was said to have been infiltrated by communist and other “enemies” because of what the new left stands for today; anti-free speech, forced vaccinations, compliance with illegal mandates, supported by old institutions like the ACLU, SPLC, media, PBS, now corrupted.

Seems this rot went hyper with the election of the man and his political wife, in that above picture, The Clinton’s.

Now, for example, we have the likes of that DA in San Francisco, son of radicals , that pushes social justice as crime soars!

Just my opinion and I truly appreciate your take on the subject.

Sadly, I doubt that.

Expand full comment

So do I. The youth have been assimilated. They like their hero-worship and their crap culture.

Expand full comment

I think that's what Gil Scott-Heron meant by 'The Revolution Will Not be Televised." The music industry figured out with young Elvis that youth rebellion sells.

In the 60s, it was "revolutions" and counter-culture. It makes me laugh when I think that the ultimate cynical rock capitalists Mick Jagger and Keith Richards probably arrived at "Street Fighting Man" and "Sympathy for the Devil" because they, along with their promoters, knew that songs like this would sell in the anti-war and Prague Spring climate.

In the late-70s in was punk. In the 90s, it was grunge. All of it "counter-cultural" on the surface but in the end preaching conformity through non-conformity. At least Midnight Oil were imploring listeners to "Read About It." As a kid, I arrived at Victor Jara through the Clash song, Washington Bullets. No longer.

I look at how hip-hop devolved in the last thirty years. In the 80s, it was Public Enemy preaching "Fight the Power." Even in the early 90s, Chuck D wrote in Can't Truss it, "Beware of the hand, When it's comin' from the left, I ain't trippin', just watch ya step. Can't truss it." Hop Hop like every other genre has since been co-opted to preach materialism and conformity.

Today's youth conform and accept because they have been conditioned by popular culture and mass media to do that. They are consumers and servants. Like good little Hitler Jugend, kids are being taught to out kids who won't wear masks and/or are unvaccinated. If the Sex Pistols came out today Johnny Rotten would be singing, "Assimilation in the U.K. .... " because Malcolm McClaren and his Clash counterpart Bernie Rhodes would know it will sell.

Expand full comment

Have not seen that. Do watch plenty of Scandinavian, Dutch and German and Belgian stuff, and it's fun, helped along by subtitles, to catch all the cognates to English words and the subtle changes in meaning. Just finished watching an extraordinary Romanian series called Umbre (Shadows), and it was just really remarkable. The same sort of universe as Sopranos but infinite levels of nuance and emotional depth higher. It sure surprised me on that because I was a fan of Sopranos. But wow. Luncheon meat vs. a great slow roast.

And--don't laugh--A Korean Odyssey is one the greatest fantasy series I've ever watched. May require a specialized palate to go for but once you get into it you ain't gonna let go. The hunger for the human connection rendered in a unique way...

I'm reminded of a Babylon 5 episode called "Deconstruction of falling stars".

It had a bunch of talking heads and academics tearing down heroes of a past time and war, and miraculously, one of them shows up and just shames them all on live TV.

Here, they appear to be doing it to themselves.

BTW, there seems to be a lot of parallels between Babylon 5 and the current battle of politicians /media /military and the people. It's a good series from the 90's.

Thank you for the B5 reference...that show still is a cornerstone.

It has become part of our escape, the hour a day we turn our brains off.

With streaming I have to say the last time I watched a current network show was beyond my memory horizon. Right now we're going through the original "Perry Mason" (from the late 1950s). That's entertainment! I don't pretend entertainment is here to shape my life, provide information, moral guidance or insights into the real world. It's the exact opposite - I don't want any of those things from my TV :-)

I'm into Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart

Bob Newhart is absolutely my favorite comedian of all times. Totally agree with you. My other favorite... Gene Wilder. Gene was also a genuinely decent person. Saw some great interviews he gave where he mentioned turning down deals and stopped making movies because of the "agenda". He didn't want to be part of it.

Expand full comment

Same! Just watched both of them this year. Also love the Dick VanDyke show.

Expand full comment

The problem, I think, is that entertainment has become everything instead of the accompaniment to useful occupations. In the olden olden olden days, someone would be singing or playing a simple instrument while the rest of the household was making things--spinning, weaving, cooking, building/repairing, etc. etc. etc. Radio was the same, just technified. People listened WHILE they worked--fiber crafts, woodworking, etc. etc. etc.

Now it's all entertainment and no useful work. People are desperately bored but they can't identify the feeling.

Worst thing the moron educational experts did to society was close all the trade schools. That was the road to doom.

Expand full comment

Yup. And as entertaining as this thread is, I'm going "off-line" now - gonna get on my tractor and move some dirt, then maybe weld some metal together, while my dog watches (dogs need entertainment too and people are their TV :-). Until it gets dark anyway.

same here. I resist Hollywood like teflon.

Expand full comment

I'm not sweeping with too broad a brush. It's the inherent narcissism that is synonymous with "Hollywood" that deserves final and total rejection. It's the hypocrisy of millionaire athletes, actors, and musicians who are simply agents of the elite who preach to the masses.

I understand why people who can barely make ends meet worship and seek to identify with billionaires. It's the need for escapism that the media cultivates. It's just like taking drugs and consuming large quantities of alcohol. In the end, someone benefits by humanity's collective misery and nihilism.

That said, there are artists out there who continue to do excellent work and who deserve recognition. Check out the late-Rick Mayall's performance in the 2014 movie "One by One." Rick tried to warn us then.

Expand full comment

They are all the same... Hwood is global.

Expand full comment

Easy: don't look to celebrities for moral, political or ethical guidance. It's entertainment. Just like sports: why should we look to a 20 something millionaire with 30 days of experience in the real world for guidance on how to correct the worlds problems or deal with real life in general? Enjoy the show!

KatLee, I love that story. I first read something several years ago about it. I have no doubt it is true. Not that Lennon would have been a hard R, but he was done with Carter and the libs. No doubt today he would be on Clapton and Van's side.

Here's a circa 2011 version of the story.

The problem with following rabbit trails is you forget where you’ve followed one 😆. I don’t know why I even saw the story recently but it’s definitely one I hadn’t heard before.

Totally off topic: can you do a post on how lifting the mandates does little while emergency powers still in place?

Until we the people vote them out, they will cling to that shred of power.

They will also claim victory over SarsCoV2 when they did nothing other than mandate a death shot and muzzle us with pieces of Chinese plastic cancer causing masks and shoved sticks filled with carcinogens up our noses.

Listen, they are actors. And while of course, we appreciate the idea of acting (putting oneself into the shoes of a character, understanding someone else from the inside out) and we appreciate actors in this light....they are actors...and the traditional wariness of actors might be good to keep in mind. In days of yore, they were classed with prostitutes. Please understand, I in no way affirm this type of disrespect and lack of understanding for either whores or actors! This type of thing only shows how we are far worse than either whores or actors and how we have yet to even begin to understand the things of the Lord Jesus. In the Bible, those who served in the temples of idols were called "holy boys" and "holy girls," to this day in regions of Pakistan and India prostitutes are still considered holy. This may be why, humanly speaking, God calls himself holy. You see, a temple whore provided a time of rest and relaxation, the pleasures of life and love for the working man. It's just that the Bible corrects all this and says to us that God himself will be our rest and relaxation, our pleasure, our ease of heart and mind. He leads the men to find with their own wives this same pleasure, to see their wives as what the wives really are to their husbands, life. Actors too need to be appreciated, but they are not helped but harmed by us making them idols. The fault is ours.

On the bright side, if they keep singing, it makes the thought of nuclear submarines off the U.S. coast a hell of a lot less scary. Imagine there's a tsunami-- crashing toward you-- imagine no more cities-- it isn't hard to do. Imagine all the people, washing out to sea... (Too dark?)

So, in the "Imagine" pic of 6 "celebrities," I recognized 3 people. "Celebrities," huh? 3 of 6.

Expand full comment

No, I am truly very sorry to inform you, Bandit, they really are celebrities to some people. Not sarc, unfortunately. Mass formation started a long long time ago.

(But I only sort of recognized three and thought I knew one other. Even Ferrell I couldn’t remember his name but knew what movies he’s been in, sad to say for myself).

Maybe they could serenade those Ukrainian citizens who are having Molotov cocktail parties as a greeting to their Russian friends arriving. The Russians are discovering that a bunch of 12 year old boys can really handle an AK-47. Somehow their training came from the 15 year olds. I think the Russians are having a rethink - this does not look good for them.

More and more aren't hearing the legitimate reasons for this and succumbing to the years of shrill, unending anti-Russia propaganda the west has programmed everyone with. Even those I know that seem to understand most of the shit that is going on now seem to have a disconnect when it comes to Russia. If Russia doesn't get this over with soon there will be no stopping the NWO/Reset, although Russia may just be controlled opposition.

Expand full comment

Russia doesn't need to be stopped, they need to squash this as quickly as possible by whatever they need to do it. The longer they wait the more the west will become provocative, create chaos and make WWIII more likely. Russia should remember the tactics the US unapologetically used in Iraq, Libya, Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc., countries we had much, much less reason to invade than Russia does now.

OMG death from above. Yep you nailed it. This will bring Putin to his knees. Or it will solidify how asinine our govt is. LOL like WE needed the added push by these dupes to keep solidifying the answer to the worlds question regarding the fortitude of the US. Your fearless leader has retreated to Delaware for a weekend respite away from the crushing demands of the Presidency. Perhaps he and hunter are rethinking the ten% due to the big guy.
