Sure would be wonderful if all those who wanna continually clang the fear bell, could be silenced.... their stats have NEVER made any sense, but they do love hearing on anyone who questions their "pscience"

While I agree that the # of tests has to be taken into account, I think your analogy is a little off. Unlike the cars, the people getting tested is not a random sample. At least some of the people have good reason to get tested (i.e. they have symptoms and had close contact with a Covid + person). In this case, an increase of tests is indicative of an increase in cases. However, there are currently tons of tests being taken for no good reason (college students, travelers, etc.) and we are therefore catching lots of asymptomatic +'s , which we would not have capture a year ago. So, I think the "normalizing" you have performed is likely too aggressive, but the general point stands nonetheless.

When I saw this woman on the TV, I commented to the people in the room "yet another woman who can't hide her irrational panic". There is no place for this sort of display from the WHO or the CDC or indeed politicians, independent of their sex - from journalists it is expected. I have seen several women politicians lose it and show clear panic on TV, without any obvious underlying cause evident in the available data.

This all makes sense, but some might ask how we know that testing has increased. I'd like to share with some colleagues [who remain in fear].

Regarding false and non-clinical positives, expect this to go away quickly over the next couple weeks, partly due to Hope-Simpson but mainly because as of yesterday New York has stopped quarantine and test for interstate travel. This means a lot of asymptomatic people who didn't need tests in the first place, won't get them and skew the numbers.

Was she referring to recent regional trends in some of the midwest and northern states? Haven't seen pos% for those areas, but could be the early spring seasonal effects predicted by Hope Simpson to be followed by a steeper decline in April.

Is there a reason a person so talented, smart, and awesome with stats chooses to not use capitol letters or punctuation properly? It makes it difficult to share this story and have it maintain any credibility.
