Yes and no. I wanted to say the same thing, but there actually are a lot of people who are brilliant with what they do, yet totally lacking in communication and teaching skills. And often lacking in common sense and understanding also. It is wonderful (nay -miraculous!)when you can find a technical person who can simplify things in a way the common person can understand. And there are many things that I will probably never really understand. People think differently. What is of most value, I believe, is good moral character and truthfulness.
when in school I was told I should go for science, but I was hopeless at chemistry. Glad I did not go that way. Strange enough, in my early 40s I worked at a lab that used polymers and to my surprise, when I read that, I could grasp it. LOL. the easy stuff probably being too easy??? Yes we all think differently. I used to be good at languages and math, but now both are down the drain and I am glad I can more or less add up my expenses!
Yes, a lot of so-called teachers are TERRIBLE at teaching. Sometimes it’s not their fault, they are basically a warm body temporarily (hopefully) filling a vacancy. I gave up on algebra when I first had it- because our vice-principal was “teaching” it. He didn’t explain anything and I had no one else to ask for help. But in high school I was blessed with an excellent teacher. My glitch was that I wanted to understand. People would say “Do this and then do that,” and I wanted to know “why?” first.
thankfully I was blessed with 2 excellent math teachers, otherwise it would have been disastrous! For physics and chemistry we had the terrible teacher you remember all too well - they both went on with the half of the class who understood, and the rest just went along for the ride!
