More like 180 years ago. This forced 700 Lutherans to sail to the US.

"Old Lutherans were originally German Lutherans in the Kingdom of Prussia, notably in the Province of Silesia, who refused to join the Prussian Union of churches in the 1830s and 1840s. Prussia's king Frederick William III was determined to unify the Protestant churches, to homogenize their liturgy, organization and even their architecture. The main effect was that the government of Prussia had full control over church affairs, with the king recognized as the leading bishop."

Pondering absurdity topologies, often mistaken by "coincidences", this brings to mind the following passage of "Dead Funny - Telling Jokes in Hitler's Germany" by Rudolph Herzog, Chapetr IV "Humor and Persecution", on the Nazis first national boycott of Jewish shops, doctors and lawyers, staged April 1st 1933:

"Jewish Germans came up with a number of jokes revolving around the boycott, the first nationwide anti-Semitic initiative carried out by the Nazi government.

One running theme—hardly a surprise—was the arbitrary nature of this state coercion.

Despite the considerable horror they had felt when the SA men were bellowing crude anti-Semitic slogans, in retrospect the joke-tellers were very much aware of the boycott’s inherent absurdity:

«A city on the Rhine during the boycott: SA men stand in front of Jewish businesses and “warn” passers-by against entering them.

Nonetheless, a woman tries to go into a knitting shop.

An SA man stops her and says, “Hey, you. Stay outside. That’s a Jewish shop!”

“So?” replies the woman. “I’m Jewish myself.”

The SA man pushes her back. “Anyone can say that!”»

The punch line played on the fact that it was usually impossible to tell the difference between gentile and Jewish Germans.

The boycott made it clear that the Nazis were serious about their promise to drive even fully assimilated Jews out of German society.

Germany’s relatively small Jewish minority was made into a magnet for racist resentments that were deeply anchored in the German social core.

In the copious propaganda that accompanied the boycott, Jews were made the scapegoats, however improbably, for a whole range of social ills, though in many rural regions of Germany there were no Jews at all—a fact that give rise to the following joke:

«Julius Streicher, the spokesman for the anti-Jewish boycott, received a telegram from a small town in northern Germany.

It read: “Send Jews immediately—stop—otherwise boycott impossible.”»

The boycott was the first of what soon seemed an endless series of anti-Jewish measures, minutely described in the diaries of Viktor Klemperer and other chroniclers of the time.

The Third Reich did not begin with Auschwitz."

I am currently reading Eric Metaxas' outstanding biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Interestingly, I came across the below linked article from 2018 in the NY Times by Ross Douthat heralding the possibility of a post-Christian form of paganism in the United States. COVID, with its dogma, rites, symbolism, and sacraments arguably has filled that post-Christian pagan void. Fauci is the pontifex maximus to borrow Douthat's phrase. Physical distancing, mask wearing, multiple rounds of vaccination, and condemnation of the unvaccinated as heretics are the rituals.

Look at how Fauci's pronouncements are reported in mainstream Lefty idiot farm sites like Yahoo. Note how 1) the focus is on the personality not the agency as a whole ("Dr. Fauci says" along side authoritative photos of him in front of a microphone); 2) the articles are utterly unquestioning--Yahoo is there as a relay device, never to probe or question a given pronouncement; 3) there is no analysis or comparison with past pronouncements ("this is what our Leader says now here, today"); 4) dissenters are tagged with labels ("right wing critics" "a handful of dissenting physicians" "anti vaxxers" or the like).

In his book "Three men the Bummel", author Jerome K. Jerome remarked :-

"The German citizen is a soldier, and the policeman is his officer. The policeman directs him where in the street to walk, and how fast to walk. At the end of each bridge stands a policeman to tell the German how to cross it. Were there no policeman there, he would probably sit down and wait till the river had passed by. At the railway station the policeman locks him up in the waiting-room, where he can do no harm to himself. When the proper time arrives, he fetches him out and hands him over to the guard of the train, who is only a policeman in another uniform. The guard tells him where to sit in the train, and when to get out, and sees that he does get out. In Germany you take no responsibility upon yourself whatever. Everything is done for you, and done well."

My bullshit detector klaxon has been ringing pretty much nonstop since the beginning of this dangerous farce.

The nonsensical absurdity is deliberate. How can it not be?

For me, perhaps the most glaring example is that one must face-diaper up when walking to one's restaurant table but can diaper down once seated. To this day here in the People's Republic of Silicon Valley eateries enforce this preposterous practice and people comply.

But of course, there are more.

Just this chilly, foggy morning driving my son to school entire families are walking by the side of the road, all masked up. Mommy and daddy giving the kids a ludicrous life lesson.

People in their cars, alone, double diapered.

A couple months ago I took an Uber to the airport. The driver had affixed a plastic barrier with duct tape between the front and rear seats. But had cut a hole in the middle so he could speak with his passenger(s) and be understood through the mask and the barrier!

I feel like I am living in some sort of insane clown world full of hysterical hypochondriacs, most of whom insist that everyone else engage in the same pathological behavior.

Can this benighted barbarian horde be brought back from madness?

If not, I truly fear for the future.

"In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to."

A few gems of their propaganda:

"...A peaceful world, a healthy world, a breathable world, a clean world, a fair world: each should be regarded as a global public good whose provision depends on our ability to cooperate globally. Such a pressing necessity was made obvious with COVID-19: no global state exists to deliver a vaccine to the entire world, so the effort to vaccinate as many people as possible falls upon international organizations whose power is constrained by competing national interests and a patchwork of fragmented agreements and initiatives negotiated between 200 sovereign states. It doesn’t work. On 21 November 2021, the lack of global cooperation and the incessant bickering about burden sharing meant that only 54.7% of the world population was vaccinated. At the time of writing, the emergence and identification of the Omicron variant might prove to be a stark consequence of this failing...."

“...NZE2050 concern the conversion from fossil fuels to renewable energy, (...) [because they are not possible] in poor countries ... within the 30-year timeframe needed to address the climate challenge. (...) these countries need requisite energy to build their nations and to provide basic needs for their large unserved populations This cannot be circumvented or ‘leapfrogged’ by the technology-based methods inherent in NZE2050 – if global minority countries cannot implement CO2-reducing tech on a large scale, how could global majority countries achieve this?”

Answer: A vast forced transfer of wealth from developed countries to the undeveloped to build ineffective, virtue signalling wind & solar farms. Goal achieved: More poverty for the Western Proletariat and continued poverty for citizens in developing nations, i.e. a World Neo-Feudal corporate fascist state.

Germany has killed ~70,000 people already by shutting down most of its zero CO2 Nuclear power plants, replacing them with dirty coal, according to epidemiological data. That's almost as much as their 90,000 corona deaths and the coal deaths will continue long after corona and get worse due to more nuclear shutdowns. That doesn't count their constantly hyped climate change deaths that they CLAIM to care so much about.

Not shutting down the nuclear power costs nothing, easy-peasy, saving lives by just doing nothing. So they justify spending $trillions in debt money, shutting down an economy, draconian lockdowns, police state tactics, massive unemployment, supply shortages & economic deprivation in order to save ~23,000 extra covid deaths (vs Sweden low intervention method). Those are deaths largely of the very old, very sick or very old & sick vs coal pollution kills by lung disease, cardiovascular disease and cancers, a younger, healthier population.
