In addition to the causes stated by our sage, gatito, the above is truly a reflection of the profound narcissism that has risen to pandemic levels amongst liberal/progressives in the modern era, most likely caused by the advent of social media . These narcs truly live in their own world , and don't have sufficient situational awareness to realize they are living in a delusion created by their own depraved minds. It's actually sad, but also scary, because these lunatics are able to achieve positions of power and influence.

Guessing all that “ocean spray” while growing up in Puerto Rico, made us really healthy...

I am an open water swimmer, and know many others who swim in the Pacific on a weekly basis. There are Open Water Swim Companies who take people out into the SF bay daily to swim from Alcatraz and around Angel Island, from bridge to bridge, etc. No one has gotten sick and I am sure if this were even half way "true" they would not be operating currently. This is just dumb and I hope she gets called out on it. Sharing!

Yup! But when you tell people you do that, they instantly ask about sharks. Great urban myth! :-) Great to hear that you love the ocean!

Great Whites haunt the oceans off Mass Bay (Cape Cod) chasing whatever seals migrate through...... I do not swim lately.

El Gato. Not sure if this one makes sense. Interested in your thoughts. Agree on the dangers of government money 'capturing science', but I wonder if the alternative - private and corporate money (and foreign governments) capturing science, is not a greater evil and what got us here. Someone has to fund it. At least a democratic government is, in theory, answerable for its funding. A very rich private software developer is not, and can use it all purely for his/her own ends.

I do think that's how we got here. And when the federal government started losing talent to big business and Pharma, they decided to give government scientists the right to retain patents made with federal money (Bayh-Dole). The law of unintended consequences. Time for a redo.

Yes. The IP thing - scientists starting to see university work as a way to get rich quick rather than further knowledge (greed, basically) is pervasive.

Yes. The politics of peer review will keep the eye rollers silent

I'm curious to hear your take on "tree farts" and climate change. :)

you do not get science, you get "pseudo-science prostitutes" who will say and do anything for grant money.

like fear of another pearl harbor their trade is fear, misinformation and deception.

the pharma industry complex matures along the lines of the military industry complex which I served from 1972 to 2009.

truth is the first casualty of money, science is defined by the purse and the vendor is more powerful than the buyer as the vendor dispenses the gold and controls the holders of the purse string through campaign finance anarchy.

money laundering through contractors and universities creates a caste system of serfdom......

the lords be billionaires made off the money the tax money spend in congress........ recycling the gold

who ha the gold has the power over the narrative.

In St. Andrews there is a popular Fish & Chips shop where they give you way too many chips, which wind up in the trash cans around town. Last time I was there I spent some time feeding them to the Sea Gulls. Silly birds couldn't keep quiet and soon there were hundreds fighting for a bite to keep their motors running another few hours. One observer chastized me for feeding them as if they were zoo animals on a strict diet. I also saw a hungry Gull steal a piece of fish right out of the hand of an unsuspecting tourist.

in my idyllic youth i had a summer job during college at an ocean state park. we were tasked one pm to put some snow fence around a sand dune......

more hands than work to fill the pm. one of our crew decided to nap while we toiled.

he was rewarded by and accurate bomb run by a seagull, luckily the ocean was a short jog away......

do seagulls fit the fauci, wuhan funding tale?

el gato malo is the best!
