Why are none of the infringements ending immediately? Why always a week, two weeks, a month out?

Because of THE SCIENCE.

Naturally. Science takes time.

Nice column. Bingo. I too started blowing the warning horn in March ‘20, with my endless refrain being “the government will never willingly give up these powers you’re ceding to them. Any statement about them being limited is a bald-faced lie.” I was of course called every name in the book and endlessly harangued everywhere I went for not masking, distancing, etc. I never let this hideous mess change my life in any way I could control. And now the “I-told-you-sos” are so sweet, and of course, you’ve nailed the three respondent groups. Morons, cowards and scumbags.

Expand full comment

So they can say “you didn’t cause us to relent, this was part of our brilliant plan all along, it had nothing to do with convoys or public opinion. Nope. We knew the mandates needed just a couple more weeks to flatten the curve and then we’d be done, and we cured COVID.” Just like when you tell a seven-year-old to go to bed right now and they wait a few minutes so it will look like it was their idea all along.

Because they can't just turn around and say 'it's safe' today after saying 'it's not safe' yesterday. This is simply a buffer so they can save a tiny bit of political face by 'predicting' that virus activity will continue to plummet as we move into spring.

so they can say, "oops well cases are up. we can't do that now."

Expand full comment

My guess would be that they hope the media will scare them all with the latest and deadliest variant and then they can say "We really wanted to lift the mandates but X variant is just too scary...please stay tuned whilst you cower in your basement for further details"

Expand full comment

That exact scenario has happened more than once.

Expand full comment

It makes the decision appear to be thoughtfully considered and planned and carefully implemented.

Expand full comment

Right, as if this is all part of the original plan which they foresaw.

Expand full comment

My first question also, but it is not really a question. They are just seeing if they can weaken the resolve of the people with a “promise” about “the future.” ( “Like two weeks to flatten the curve” but two years later kinda thing.)

Expand full comment

And the “Easing-of-Restrictions” goalpost just keeps moving……..

Expand full comment

Bureaucracy takes time.

Expand full comment

This. Moving at the pace of Government is terrible. So in the UK they announced restrictions a week before implementing them. If it was a true epidemic of the young you'd have seen the grapevine operate quicker and everyone would have hunkered down themselves 100%. As it was our society in it's wisdom has almost universally sent old people into homes so the young workers aren't burdened with caring for their family. And so the few that were dying wasn't obvious, so the majority of people waited for Government mandates to fall before dutifully obeying.

But they're slower in removing the programmes than starting them up.

Expand full comment

The infringements never end. It's not about health.

Expand full comment

cause they're watching for the peasants to be pacified and look away

if they do, they can slam down the infringements harder for a "variant" without having to lift anything

If they actually got rid of them, people would notice and enjoy the difference, and resist viciously if they suddenly came back

Expand full comment

Because it gives the people who want their liberty returned, a period of time to breathe easily "knowing" the infringements will leave, letting their guard down. Then upon the appointed day they will be told that the end is not coming due to (fill in fake reason). This brings about heightened tension, anxiety, stress, depression, on top of that, they have lost whatever little bit of leverage they might of had.

Expand full comment

Because, if their polls don't improve, it's back to flogging the proles until morale improves.

They have to make it look like this was their idea.

I don't condone violence but would not shed a tear if he were to have a terrible accident befall him. Canadians have roughly 3.5 years for their hatred of this government to stew. The Liberals will go down and it will be decades before (if) they ever recover.

Expand full comment

The next step is a vote of non-confidence, followed by new elections. The Bloc Quebecois has already expressed its displeasure with Trudope's actions; the Tories also oppose him. The NDP is likely to feel that they will do better in a post-Trudope election, gaining seats at the expense of the Liberals. Whoops, that adds up to 176 votes -- 6 more than needed to dump Trudope's government.

I give it another week or two

Expand full comment

Why would he do that, when he can just seize and freeze all their access to money, so they will freeze, starve, and die? But he's not ending their right to protest...

Expand full comment

Yes that is the face of the new soft fascism of the techno-Totalitarian state. That's why they want to keep those vaccine mandates & passports so badly. With that morphing into the digital I.D. and digital currency they will just shut down anyone who is disobedient from being able to travel or even buy food. With their "you will own nothing" or rent everything plan I suspect the digital currency will not allow us serfs to be able to store value, it's use it or lose it, so no ownership of anything, everything is rented off of the Aristocracy - the Rent Seekers.

That way they have total control over the population without having to expose themselves with brutal & violent crackdowns on dissent, with law enforcement who won't be willing to be that vicious. Also reminds one of the new warfare strategy of the psychopath empire, they just impose total blockades & economic sanctions on non-compliant nations, a form of siege warfare, trying to starve the population into submission, with their corrupt media not reporting on the millions of deaths.

Expand full comment

Also why they want to move everyone out of single family dwellings and into cheap, small apartments in dense cities. It’s way easier to control people in that situation.

Expand full comment

A dystopian nightmare. And these apartments city politicians are paying $300k(Los Angeles) to $580k(Seattle) each for in the cities just to house one homeless person, when you can 3D print a small home for $4k, in a suburban area with a small plot of land which you can grow your own food. Move the homeless into small plots of farmland and get them to produce food, live healthy productive lives and feed the local population without relying on centrally controlled crap industrial food. Use local currencies and we can opt out of their total control over us. That's why the elite psychopaths are buying up all the farmland in the Western world, they want total control over everything, even water resources. Using free money they get from central banks or they create themselves in private banks.

I did find this tidbit of information. Expand full comment

How do you know his foundation is benefitting directly like that? I have no doubt there is some type of corruption in the vaccine purchase order in Canada and the LPN patents being held in CAnada, just as the government contracts for testing and tracing and general collection of data on Canadians is being driven by corruption. What a winfall of useless products and measures at taxpayer expense. We could have simply used cheap early treatment rendering Covid to be a mild disease posing no risk at all to the young or to the older but healthy.

Expand full comment

It's depressing to think about why they might have ordered so many doses. At least with ventilators and field hospitals (so much focus in those early days) there were no mandates to use those products if they weren't needed.

It's terrifying to see what's happening in Canada. The rest of the world is rapidly moving away from the losing position of masks and mandates, but not Canada. I suspect the truckers have a plan for this contingency, and it will be painful.

It's sobering to think "what would I do?". They may need to move to the plausible deniability stage, and just limit their deliveries. Modern society would be on it's knees in a week if they did. And Trudeau just did invoke the "Emergencies Act". I thought he had to at least go through parliament but I guess executive power now trumps any kind of legislative power. (it certainly does here in my state of the US). As one of the Truckers put it--"He's invoking these powers without even bothering to sit down and talk to us." Uh. Yeah. cause he don't talk to anyone who's not vetted by Klaus Schwab.

Part of me thinks he needs an off ramp and it aint going to be capitulation. Perhaps after they runoff the Truckers, and regroup, they will start to ease things, as a blind man can see which way the wind is blowing.

Expand full comment

But what if the Truckers don't go? They've said they're holding the line. Violence like that in France? (cops beating people up, tear gas, etc). Or worse? The Convoys have a LOT of popular support. So...what does Trudeau think he's gonna do?

Expand full comment

They just empowered themselves to seize bank accounts and crowdfunding sources including crypto, cancel insurance, confiscate vehicles and more, without a warrant or any due process with full cooperation of the banks. This applies to anyone participating in or donating to the convoys. This is worse than tear gas, they can ruin these people. But of course this unholy precedent under the Emergency Act now applies to all of us, for anything they choose to to define as terrorism. Like a wrongthink Facebook post in the not too distant future. It’s actually a really bad day here.

Expand full comment

If they can do it to truckers they can do it to anyone. Hope all of Canada and the world will stand united against this authoritarianism now. My understanding is Parliament and Commons have 7 days to yea or ney this emergency act. Also according to news emergency act only to be used when people are in danger. What’s so dangerous about the protest in Ottawa? They’re feeding the homeless, keeping crime down and cleaning the city. I heard they found some guns and ammo at Coutts so that’s probably what’s behind it but think it would’ve been done anyway.

Ford had "provisions" in his announcement about lifting restrictions, those provisions being that "the numbers" keep going down, but anyone looking at Israel will understand that the vaccinated are highly susceptible to Omicron. Some German authority was just saying today that because Omicron was so mild they can expect a fall Covid wave that will be really nasty. All voodoo of course. But that is going to be life in some of those countries -- no off ramp for the forseeable, always something over the horizon to worry about.

Expand full comment

Let's be very clear here; any drop in vaccine or mask mandates should not be met with applause. There's a clear reason why this is being done in blue states, and if the voter bases are so easy to fool as to vote for the people who serendipitously decide to change mandates because "the science has changed" then I am really concerned about the mindset of the nation as a whole.

Remember that Andrew Cuomo was never taken to task for the thousands of elderly he killed and the tens of thousands he infected by sending COVID positive patients into nursing homes. Gretchen Whitmer never faced any repercussions as well for doing something similar.

So for those who are looking at these mandates ending, it is a sign that things may be changing, but let's also not use this time to forget about the tyranny that we have all lived under because of these mandates, and let's also make sure to let these people know that we ourselves will not forget.

Expand full comment

Añd there's definitely much more tyranny waiting in the wings. We must not be fooled into letting down our guard ever again. There's way too much at stake. Our very lives and future depends on what we do moving forward.

Biden will bumble stumble stutter through a State of the Union claiming credit for his astute interpretation of the science. Fact: The President of the US has dementia, but he doesn't have a diagnosis. Everyone around him knows it and pretends it isn't so. Those familiar with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) may remember that Trump scored 30/30. Even if you hate Trump, he looks and acts like a 30/30. Based upon my experience and that of other ED doctors I believe Biden would score ~18/30. This is a bit worse than moderate cognitive impairment. Nothing surprising here. But is it Alzheimer's or something else. The doctor that did his yearly physical ignored his cognitive state and his gait that has markedly deteriorated since inauguration. This demands a workup. He could even have something treatable like Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Here is my question: Is there any competent doctor in the US who looks at Biden and doesn't have a WTF moment?

As long as the free staters can have a somewhat free existence, they don't care what happens in the slave states and the federal realm. The US has a vaxx passport requirement to come into this hellacious country and no one cares.

Nope, too many RINOs. More fundamental change is needed, and I agree with the other posters -- no indication of that as of yet. But in times like these, prediction is difficult. A slight change in the breeze, and who knows. Who had any idea that the truckers would bring this government in Canada to the brink of collapse? But yet, here we are.

I’m sorry to hear that. These are some scary times that none of us could have envisioned.

Canada is like the US except, instead of coastal versus interior, it is Ontario and part of Quebec against the prairies with the coastal being somewhat irrelevant. It is very hard to tell where the population is as we all have our biases. Not many voted the last election in the fall since Ontario and Quebec kind of own the race leaving most as indifferent. Recent polls put Trudeau at 16%, but he would probably still get elected since the alternatives in a multi party system are not great. Add to that, the media is as bad as the US. Today's Q/A was dominated by leftists from Ontario and Quebec; almost staged. No questions about alternatives, what the actual grievances are, science, etc., just "What are cops going to do?"

My gut says if there is not a non-confidence vote to oust the PM (which seems unlikely given that today Parliament could not even vote in the affirmative to allow for the making of a plan for pandemic exit targets), we are in for an escalation, first of peaceful wacka-mole popups all over the place, but ultimately something pretty violent that brings it to a head one way or the other. Protests are dug in and not being reported properly as people are not so much concerned about health and current covid mandates, but with the authoritarian creep that culminates in a social credit score passport restricting all life. So they have their kids futures in mind and this is tough to put down even with the threat of death. Today's measures are only going to increase this fear as the newly minted Government Emergency measures allow for arbitrary (no court order required) bank account seizures (ostensibly to slow the support of terrorist protests, but you know how this goes). Not good.

I am so impressed by these Canuck protesters. My vision of Canada has been dramatically changed forever. So at least there is that.

Well said. I am sure Trudeau is also aware that if he opens the borders to travel for all he will have a massive brain drain on his hands. I know of many professionals who are waiting to exit - they were all smart enough to not get the jab - and now smart enough to want out before this turns into full East Germany, and we took a very big step in that direction today!

Until yesterday I might have agreed with you; but given events of the past 24 hours, I'm no longer sure of your conclusion regarding non-confidence. The other parties I'm sure can see and feel the same things you and I and many others do: Canada is heading for a tragedy of the first magnitude if this is allowed to continue. Trudope cannot back down, he has left himself (or maybe, Schwab has left him) no escape hatch. So the Tories, NDP and Bloc could easily take him down at this point and force an election.

As you know, Canadian election results can shift sharply based on seemingly minor changes in the popular vote totals. At this moment, my sense is that the Liberals would lose enough support for a Tory majority government with the New Democrats the official opposition. I'm a dual citizen now living in the USA so no longer have my 'pulse' on the electoral sentiments of Canadians on a personal basis; but just by giving consideration to the deliberations going on in the minds of the various factions, as disruptive of decorum as a non-confidence vote is, it is likely the best choice in the minds of the Bloc, NDP and Tory MPs. The lesser of evils. A perfect Canadian choice, given the circumstances. Get the country off of the rails to Hell, and put it back on a path of healing.

Edit: BTW this depends on the Tories making peace with Maxime Bernier in the best interest of Canada. Can that happen? Maybe today with things the way they are, in the interest of saving the country... we can all hope and pray.

As Gato has explained, within the Sheepdom there has been what some are suspecting is an outbreak of Convoyitis. However, I suspect that what we are witnessing is that the many Canadians who have felt this way all along but were silent out of fear of job loss or social stigma have realized that if only they too speak out along with the 30% or so that have always been vocal about how ridiculous all these measures are then sanity can prevail over irrational covid fear. That only 3 of the provinces & territories spoke out against this blatant abuse of power is atrocious. Some of these provinces are sitting with majority governments that were recently elected - but that was before mandates and knowledge that the jab was a failure. My guess: they know they can hang on for another 3 or so years before the next mandatory election cycle is upon them and they are counting on the sheep having short memories, and any harms from the jabs going unnoticed by the majority.

Glad to see the police arrest the little puke. And glad he's in Canada. In the U.S. he'd receive victim compensation and they'd already have a monument dedicated to him.

I'm trying to understand this. So, they're relaxing the mandates (except for masking). They say it's not because of the convoy. Yet they're still invoking, or trying to, emergency powers. All the convoy wanted was for the vaccine mandate to be dropped. Sounds like that might be happening. I'm trying to figure out why they're doing the emergency powers. So that they can still claim they had some control over the situation?

Very nasty. The young girl Alisha Owen who ended up being prosecuted for perjury was AT the Ghislane Maxwell trial supporting the victims. This happened back in the 80s. In Omaha Nebraska (Home of Clinton) a Man by the name of Larry King (not THAT one) ran a pedophile ring using young boys and girls from Boys Town a place for homeless children. John DeCamp was a US State Senator who exposed it (reminds me of Senator Ron Johnson standing up for the vaccine injured) . Anyway it’s HORRIFIC. There were two boys who testified along with Alicia Owen and the stuff that happened is unbelievable. Of course all powerful people involved from top politicians to the dirty journalist. There was a video of the lead investigator ?Caradori (whose plane crashed with all the photographic evidence and his son) it may still be there. Even though I am male, I must have the curse of Cassandra. Mine is only a tiny, lightly read account, but by October I and a few others were predicting that the Christmas Rona would be the threat that would lure in even more lockdowns and vaxxers and boosters, then typical immunity and basic viral seasonality would kick in and the specific prediction was that "by the time of SOTU" Bidan puppeteers would be taking a victory lap for "conquering the virus" with "muh scIeNCe." Seeing the immune escape caused by vaxx well before vaxx ever hit the street is another one. Getting tired of being right. Here is a new prediction: the virus is coming back for another bite at the apple, perhaps in summer in time for elections, and news media this time will be in all-out suppression-mode....which will cause giant cognitive dissonance among the faithful vaxxers when the media can't have it both ways: we need to lockdown and mandate more vaxx, but everything is cool and back to normal. Then the propaganda suppression will lift the day after election results are in, and the lame duck Congress will move quickly one final time to secure permanent largess and control mechanisms for their cronies before they are summarily sent home in droves.

Hey you smart cats and cattitude fans, Could we brainstorm, in this season of freedom flu, to help save the K-12 children of Washington State from being mandated this month to receive the covid shots to attend private and public schools? Thousands of Washingtonians have watched via zoom and felt helpless as this unanimously pro-covid-shots-for-tots Board has held meetings in 2022. The slideshows presented to the appointed voting members of the State Board of Health contain biased information about the necessity, safety, and efficacy of covid shots. Their slideshow is mainly based on Pfizer's data. The Board members are not being presented with fair and balanced information from independent experts. How about a small but mighty group of medical and scientific professional to write an incisive slide-by-slide rebuttal of this slideshow?. The issues of natural immunity, low risk to children, high risk of serious adverse effects and deaths in VAERS, VAERS underreporting factors, lack of effectiveness of the covid shots against current and emerging variants, age risk stratification, unknown long-term unknown side effects, experimental use authorization, dosing by age not weight, lack of carcinogenicity or reproductive toxicity studies, hospitalizations/deaths of children WITH covid versus DUE TO covid, clinically misleading PCR tests, mild Omicron variant, short-term waning immunity of covid shots, need for children's contribution to herd immunity after recovering from mild illness, and many other critical issues are not being addressed in the meeting materials presented to the State Board of Health. The public has no voice in choosing the officials or their vote. The Technical Advisory Group to the BOH is meeting on 2/10, 2/17, and 2/24 to make recommendations to the BOH before the final vote, expected on March 9. The rebuttal could be presented to the BOH in a mass email campaign before the final TAG team meeting on 2/24. Please share this urgent plea for help. If you are a health care provider, please consider collaborating on a correction of the slideshow. If you are a writer, please write a post about this and share this urgent issue. If you have any other bright ideas, let them out of the bag here. The evaluation criteria and presentations are here
