teach your children well
because it's clear that the teacher's unions are not going to do it for you
one of the fascinating outcomes of the last two years is a newfound appreciation for where much of the power over our lives resides and just how wildly unaccountable it has become.
we suddenly learned that county health officials and school boards had staggering influence over us and could literally dictate the terms of our lives, livelihoods, and educations to us. mostly, we had no idea who they were. i doubt 5% of americans in 2019 could have named their county or city health leadership or the members of their local school board.
this left surprisingly potent pockets of power to rarify and rot for decades becoming festering fiefdoms of self-serving systemic grift and graft.
and nowhere is this truer than the teacher’s unions.
any bureaucracy tends to become its own primary constituency. that’s just human nature and org structure. but it gets FAR worse when you remove basically all accountability. and when the bureaucracy itself becomes a primary donor base to the leaders who negotiate its contracts, that’s where you land.
accountability drops and so do outcomes like test scores. more and more money is injected into the system to fund increasingly absurd and useless ends. administrative bloat dominates and contracts lock in for life. pretty soon, it’s easier to cure herpes than to fire a teacher no matter how awful they are.
but there is also no pay for merit, no appreciation for outcomes, and a stultifying seniority based tenure system applied to all. and what sort of person wants to work in a place like that? it dissuades the best and attracts the worst seeking sinecure and a platform to proselytize whatever their ideological hobbyhorses are.
add in mandates for DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) and all the affirmative and selective action hiring and promotion that passes out jobs to those most proficient in the histrionics of performative aggrievement profession and pretty soon you get top to bottom rot. and it has been on vivid display for 3 years as kids went untaught, zoom classes failed, and teachers made ever crazier demands in service of themselves.
perhaps most amazing to many, parents got an actual look at what was being taught and it horrified them. i have heard from so many people that they could not believe the intensity of the indoctrination on 20 different “woke” topics from climate to economics, class to culture, and genetics and race to gender. this should surprise no one.
dating back to otto von bismark, public schools were not seen predominantly as education but as a means to unify and indoctrinate children into “good citizenship” as cogs in the great machine of the state. they were conceived and rolled out with fascist intentions.
it’s got a new coat of paint, but the ends are and always were the same.
one would think that after 3 years of devastating children with useless policy and derailing their educations, these teachers would be somewhat abashed for their foray into pseudoscience and child harm.
LOL.
instead, they are doing what they always do: demanding more money, more jobs, and more power. they seek to ascribe the accrued educational deficit “covid” but that was not the cause. it was covid policy and these teachers and their unions were the spearhead of it.
and now they want huge tutoring programs (likely staffed by themselves) to make up the ground. they literally want to get paid for having made this mess. the penalty for all this damage is “more goodies.” just like it always is.
The Biden administration says it will take at least 250,000 tutors to help address lost learning due to COVID-19 school closures.
The Department of Education on Tuesday announced the National Partnership for Student Success, an initiative to "spur academic recovery," including plans to recruit the colossal amount of tutors needed to help address lost learning.
the NEA (biggest teacher’s union) has a “representative assembly” going on right now (NEARA). wanna see what they want?
they want mandatory covid vaccines AND masking in schools.
at this stage of the game, this is absurd. most of the EU has given up on vaxxing kids. it does not work, does not protect other kids (or adults) and has a risk reward ratio so terrible you’d need to be statistically illiterate to miss the net harm.
masks don’t work and never did. the CDC lied about it, the data always argued otherwise, and the latest study to try to claim they work in schools was just revealed to be another piece of cherry picked fraud.
this is not science. it’s child abuse.
we’ve know for over 2 years that open, in person, unmasked, unvaxxed schools were totally safe. sweden showed us. and they had no “learning loss” either. huh.
this is all bunkum and desire to oppress and repress children out of either maleficence or some ill founded idea that they can be used as human shields, a notion that fails on both efficacy and ethics.
remember this? i do.
no child should have to attend guantanamo elementary.
and it keeps getting worse:
they want to make climate and race the axis mundi of everything. both are just more pseudoscience tailored to suit repressive collectivist agendas. the teachers get jobs for life and endless trips to the goody room and in return they indoctrinate the children in their charge into the narratives and pretexts of the authoritarian state. one filthy hand washes the other.
see what i mean about public schools being the feeder system for fascism? “intersectional climate justice” touches everyhting.
let’s see some more:
they also demand the right to teach children about sexuality and to undertake aggressive campaigns of gender identify imposition that remind me of nothing so much as the recovered memory scandal in the 70’s where teachers force fed children “rape memory suppression” narratives until they “remembered” they had been abused. this broke up families and towns. none of it was real. it was teachers and counselors trying to feel important and “championing” kids by using high pressure identity modification tactics on them.
they are not suppressing a culture of hate. they are manufacturing one.
foremost, this is deeply disturbing an immoral. young children are impressionable and pushing narratives about issues they simply cannot truly understand (especially as pre-pubescents) is ill conceived and reprehensible. a trans 6 year old is like a vegan cat. you know it was not either the child or the feline making that decision.
sorry, but this is just outside of the proper role of schools and no, i don’t care if teachers “want to be able to share their social lives” or “come out to their 1st graders.” that is not their right or their privilege.
this is not some desperately needful thing. my teachers never spoke of such. for all i know they were wheeled into closets at the end of the school day and plugged in to recharge for tomorrow.
pro tip:
if you need personal validation from 5 year olds, teaching is not a job to which you are suited.
i’m all for people finding their best selves and inhabiting such identities as make them happy, but those are your choices. leave the kids out of it.
and the same is true of all this pronoun police nonsense. it’s just tiresome performative crybullying and it teaches children to be fragile and hyper aggressive in their demands for status.
it’s outright requires that all others conform to whatever everchanging world and self view one espouses today. you claim to be a victim so that you may victimize. it’s pure ethical inversion. what one is really saying is this:
the NEA is wading into russian politics and guns and demands for universal healthcare.
they are an overtly political organization that bribes those who grant its contracts. it’s driven by an increasingly radical agenda out of step with american views and american principles.
they seek nothing more that to indoctrinate and radicalize as the first lessons in authoritarian submission.
and it will only get worse. this entire edifice is beyond help. and it’s time it went away. it exists only to serve itself and its political paymasters and is not just happy but eager to prey upon your children to advance its own interests.
watching school boards call the FBI and try to brand parents opposing pointless masking and virtual school as “domestic terrorists” was bad enough.
watching teachers and teachers unions literally say “parents have no right to dictate what their children learn” was an abomination.
the deep dishonestly of analogies like “oh, you want to teach the pilot how to fly the plane?” was striking. it’s a misframing of epic proportions. this was never about that. this is about telling the pilot WHERE to fly the plane. you would never just get on a random airplane and say “take me wherever!” you agree to that beforehand.
and that is what they want to take away from you.
the purpose of schools is to teach students basic skills like reading, writing, math, and science. history and language is also good. but mostly, they exist to teach students HOW to think, not WHAT to think.
public schools will always be captured. they will always devolve into indoctrination vehicles and spend more to deliver less.
we spend a bit over $15,000 per student per year in the US on public K-12.
that’s $300k per class of 20. try to tell me with a straight face that’s not enough money to provide an exceptional level of education.
but until we stop funding these rapacious and compromised systems, no money will be enough.
so let’s stop.
end it. all of it. eliminate the entire department of education. sell their office space to condo developers.
end all system scale funding. fund only kids. every kid gets $15k a year, spend it ANY way you see fit to educate them.
no limits. no controls.
if we add any, you’ll just wind up here again as those who control accreditation and curriculum approval will be just as bad.
people may make choices you don’t like.
so what?
go make you own.
schools compete for kids. period.
wanna ditch high school and study plumbing or machining?
do it.
want to attend a math academy or study entrepreneurialism?
do it.
the systems that will evolve out of this will be so much better that even the worst schools will run rings around today’s offerings.
competition breed competence.
choice breeds accountability.
and freedom breeds variety.
if you demand it, someone will teach it.
but you choose, not the state (and certainly not the NEA.)
the time for allowing school to be the enemy of education is over.
education is not too important to be left to free markets.
it’s too important to be left to government.
learn that and we’re on our way.
Time for a Brick In The Wall revision:
We don't need no drag queen nation
We don't need no thought control
No dark woke teachin' in the classroom
Groomers leave those kids alone
Hey! Groomers! Leave them kids alone!
Take your kids out of school. If enough do, the parents will learn they are in charge.
