Sadly, many of my friends and acquaintances who see themselves as independent thinkers and intellectually curious still react poorly when I question the Covid orthodoxy. They happily swallow unfalsifiable assertions and hold onto their beliefs with a religious fervor as if the nonstop propaganda they've been fed for 2 years is infallible doctrine. Unfortunately, many people don't realize they're vulnerable to the sway of the crowd and won't easily give up the faulty narrative.

A colleague has similar education to me, degree in physics from a top notch UK university.

He is mask observant & triple jabbed. I am not.

He was telling me that Meatloaf (RIP) didn't wear a mask.

I said masks don't do anything.

"But they must do SOMETHING" he replied.

It seems to be a matter of belief . . . possibly a belief that he can't be wrong, because that would mean he fell for a lie.

Yeah, it's possible they make things *worse*. Just like virtually *everything* else governments shoved up our asses. Lockdowns, business closures, stay-at-home orders, refusal to allow IVM to be prescribed, ad nauseam.

The general public has NO CLUE how to follow proper masking hygiene protocols (hell, it's a known fact that even healthcare professionals violate face-touching and mask hygiene protocols fairly regularly...and they're TRAINED in mask use!!), and so it's entirely possible that masks are contributing to the spread not only of the Chinese virus, but of any and every *other* pathogen breathed out of everyone's mouths.

I can't like this enough. Over and over, throughout history, the "progressive" panicked refrain "But we have to do SOMETHING" is always anathema to solving the problem. Most of the time, the SOMETHING we need to do is find peace, banish fear, wait until we have facts, and then possibly make a decision.

The knee jerk reaction of so the Karen crowds - the helicopter parents, clucking worry hens, the egotistical "academics" who are the smartest people in the room, and the keyboard warriors who haven't come up from the basement for months but feel self-righteous enough to tell you how the real world SHOULD work - will always lead us into the abyss. These people have zero self-awareness, zero ability to see past their fear, and zero history of EVER making ANYTHING truly better.

When your life is built around trying to treat a symptom and not a cause, to avoid risk and fear, to blame others, to stand self-righteously on a soapbox, screaming away without ANY understanding of the way the world works, you will get what you have today.

I'm sick of it. I'm done with it. There's no more quarter in my life for these people. I will treat them with the respect that my fellow human deserves, regardless of their message, because they are made in the image of God, regardless of how perverted and distorted their warped minds have become.

But I will relentlessly mock and ridicule their fear, their insistence on their own self-righteousness, because ain't nobody got time for that, especially me.

Sadly, my husband is a "masker." He's a masker that got a booster, even. He is normally a very intelligent man about most things, I swear. He makes a very sexy paycheck and I got no complaints in the bedroom, so I'll keep him (and wear the fucking mask when he's around and we're out in public). At least, he doesn't give me crap about not wanting a vaccine.

I try to explain that masks have not changed. I share that, at the beginning of the pandemic, I read the WHO's recommended research on masking and how ineffective it was, particularly cloth masks. This message, of course, all changed when governments were no longer worried about healthcare providers having enough PPE. Then, it became all about performative protection. Everyone should be masked became the new mantra. Mask mandates galore, to look like they were doing something. New "science" came out that refuted the previously known fact that cloth masks were next to useless and everyone went out and bought their favorite statement pieces. (I need one that says, "I wear my mask for you, because you're a pants-wetting chickenshit.")

Now, those masks are useless, again, because COVID is now even more "aerosolized." We all need to be in N95s. The virus hasn't changed size. Even if they are right, and there is more virus in the air due to higher viral loads (which is likely bullcrap), the virus hasn't changed size. If cloth masks were blocking the virus before, the same-sized virus should continue to be blocked now. Again, the virus hasn't changed size.

So why aren't people mad that they were in useless masks for two years? Why aren't they questioning whether masks are doing any good and thinking about whether the masks have done active harm? To people with COPD. People with other respiratory conditions. Illness and skin conditions from dirty masks. The hard of hearing just nodding their heads and be agreeable because you can't understand what the fuck anyone is saying. 🙋‍♀️ Children not learning social cues and experiencing normal language development. Etc.

Not to mention... elites are rarely frigging masked. It's another social class cue leading to discrimination. Mask the servants. Make them anonymous, because they don't matter.

If that doesn’t help, then back to the “panties” masks for when he walks in the door. That should at least keep the relationship strong and the bedroom busy (hopefully with no masks on).

Indeed you are correct, Jake, it IS a matter of belief. The problem is that belief is RELIGION - not science. Why would you need to 'believe' in science when you can see it in front of you and undertake scientific experiments that are repeatable?!

But belief? That is what religion (and government mandates more and more...) are based on.

By the way, you can tell your colleague that he IS right - the masks DO do something. They reduce your O2 and increase your CO2 and increase your risk of getting sick by keeping a moist & warm environment for all the little buggies ha ha. They also reduce your critical thinking and decision making skills...bonus! Sometimes I think we need to take all these masked-up people, even the unjabbed ones, and expose them to a week's worth of fresh air and good O2 levels. THEN maybe we can talk with them and maybe they'll think more clearly. Until then, however, the pharmaceutical companies and evil governments have claimed that person's very existence...

The justification for the jab so often is that it lessens severity of the disease and death.

How do we know that? The very definition of "vaccinated" has been changed, not only in the dictionary, but as time marches on the number of shots a person has taken changes their "vaccinated" status.

So, how do we know that the shots mitigate severity and death?

Local news featured some parents and children protesting in front of the Austin TX capitol, and a mother said her daughter showed "courage" for demanding to be protected from what is now a mild cold. Makes me want to throw an old-style paper dictionary at her.

As the furry creature in the ad says, ‘Simples.’

You wait until activity of the seasonal virus begins to decline as Winter comes to an end, you then point at decrease in hospitalisations and deaths and you declare, ‘Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc’ - proof vaccination has been an enormous success in reducing hospitalisations an death.

Then as we approach next Winter and hospitalisations and deaths start to rise, you declare this is proof that the unvaccinated or not boosted are spreading infection and death - poor granny. It is infalsifiable.

And the legions of ignorant, mindless blobs that we have managed to breed since WWII, lap it up.

Expand full comment
founding

Even more simple, you don’t consider anyone to be “vaccinated” until they’re 14 days past their second shot. One look at the VAERS data tells us that a whole lot of “unvaccinated” people contracted serious illnesses, were hit with serious long-term health consequences, and died right after getting the jab, but long before any of those problems could be counted as occurring among the “vaccinated.” We know cases skyrocket in the 14 days between getting the jab and governments counting you as “jabbed” - apparently because the jabs seriously suppress your immune system - so how many of the “unvaccinated” who were hospitalized and/or died with/from Covid were in that 2 week window?

Now I’m sad for them, and I’m angry that they are consigning all the rest of us to permanent inanity when if they would just open their eyes and do 30 mins of research this could be over.

Falling for a military grade psyop is easy to do. Hard to fault them, as so many of us do here. They are a type of casualty in a campaign to change the world. The resulting social divide was a goal of the perpetrators.

But what we have is people who haven’t fallen for the lie focusing on the people who have fallen for it, rather than taking aim on the ones doing the lying.

We’re not seeing the forest for the trees, and that too is part of the plan.

I like this. There are so many people I am angry with that it is starting to hurt me.

I share that feeling about others. Some folks have proved to be libertarianish about themselves but not others. Interesting and revealing times.

There are more places that people don’t give a rip about COVID than do at this point.

If you are in one of the large cities, chances are you see more insanity

Tell me where some of these places are, please. Right now, I am in a small town in a free state and there is still plenty of wacky, controlling behavior.

The people who are most "ok" with the scam that I've seen are people whose lives haven't changed much do to COVID, I reckon. They always got flu shots, worked at home (or not worked), watched CNN, listened to NPR, read the NYT....probably didn't get out much anyway, before. No kids maybe. Never even wanted to go to Florida....So for them "believing" in all this had no cost whatsoever.

Well, they're certainly madder than ever. The Facebook fights have reached a new level of viciousness and personal attacks. American ignorance of anything beyond its borders (and for some people those are state borders, not even spanning the continent) is not helping; it's not even reaching them that England et al. are rolling back mandates. Doubling down, ramping up.

that's how cognitive dissonance works.

humans do not like to hold 2 opposing views in their mind.

so, when faced with information that contradicts your view, you can do 2 things:

you can change your mind

or you can ignore/discredit the information.

if you hole a view strongly enough, you can literally ignore anything and the more conclusive the refutation of your view, the more you must double down, again and again, on belief and faith to avoid having to change your mind.

this is what it always goes so insane and shrill at the end.

but these folks are now a dwindling minority. the vast middle is flipping. it's OK to say that you don't believe this stuff. high profile people are climbing down and the follower class will follow them.

this is ending and the fact that it's ending is, perversely, what's making the biggest zealots go so berserk.

it's a self defense mechanism for their egos.

It may be "ending" but for many it's with a false narrative --- It was beaten by the policies that worked. A real ending will be the criminals facing justice.

That's why you need a scapegoat --people will change their minds quicker when all those bad feelings and confusion can be wrapped up with betrayal and blame and thrown directly at the perpetrator. Let's say they figured out a way to blame Trump for some/all of it: they would instantly change their minds to "That bastard tricked us!" The problem now is they don't want to believe that their "heroes" lied to them.

Gato, Even here in the somewhat free state of Florida, the “news” continues to serve giant helpings of covid fear. I don’t see a vast flipping middle yet and maintain that as long as the media continues to spew the party line that flip won’t occur.

I guess for some....Misery loves company and/or forcing others to do what they did somehow makes their decision the right decision. As for the hospitals being full of unvaxxed, that doesn't seem to be happening but it makes for a nice soundbite. I'm more concerned about society being full of people that are mentally unstable from consuming propaganda.

I guess I am lucky, but no one in my small circle of friends has challenged me about the vaccines, in a town with over 90% compliance. In fact they are now regretting their decisions, since all have either had side effects (including a 12yo now with “sports asthma”), or have recently contracted covid anyway.

The only time I was confronted was by a SNF patient last September, when he found out I was leaving due to the vax mandates. He demanded to know how I could expose all those vulnerable patients, didn’t I know I was putting them all at risk, etc etc. I let him know that I had read the studies, and that the prophylaxis that I was taking was far more effective than these vaccines that were waning every day. By the time we finished discussing the side effects he had experienced, and the flip-flopping narrative, he said, “I want to go with you.”

Expand full comment

People ask me all the time why I haven't gotten the vaccination. I now simply say, "Because I don't want to." When they go to follow up, I just cut them short and say, "Full stop." I've found that explaining any of it to them is just a waste of my time.

Expand full comment

I agree. If people ask me if I have been vaccinated (which is rare as I avoid people), I tell them "I don't want to get it." They don't need to know my reasons as they could care less and would never listen to what I have to say anyway. I don't waste my breath on the whole COVID-19 clown show. The clowns believe 100% what the MSM talking heads have told them these past two years.

This week over 300 colleges in the US have booster mandate deadlines for their students. Hundreds of thousands of young people will be coerced into taking a shot they do not need and that carries risks of bad outcomes. If you are a stakeholder and don't want this to become the norm at colleges, join our movement. NoCollegeMandates.com will direct you toward our group on Telegram and other resources. Help save our young people. And thank you, el gato malo for being a hero cat.

You know what's funny? Friend of mine today just told me that the blood clots from the vaccines are from newbies doing the injections and not aspirating the needle correctly. There's (a little) something to that, but I asked if she thought that might account for the heart attacks, strokes, thrombocytopenia, et al after vaccination that have been reported. She changed the subject.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing for these geniuses to come out and say we goofed. We thought masks would help but they’re useless. We thought social distancing would help but it was useless. We thought flatten the curve would stop the spread but it just widened the base and extended a flu season. We thought the vaccines would be be a silver bullet but the cure is worse than the disease. We aren’t complete idiots but we know it seems that way. We didn’t mean to lie to you but once we were in this hole we couldn’t figure out how to stop digging.

Bwah ha ha! Right! The egomaniacs will NEVER do that. They are never wrong, you always are. That is the playbook. It takes humility to realize the truth. That's why lies (or should I say mispeaks) always trump truths. Egomaniacs have no humility.
