Yes, exactly. I genuinely think the DNC / Obama initial playbook was to let Joe have his one term in office and then Kamala could take over, with the caveat that if Joe deteriorated too quickly they'd have him resign partway through the term. All Kamala had to do was not come off as a complete moron.

Whoops.

The Democrats' hands have been tied ever since, and now combined with the fact that the Bidens clearly do not want to release their grasp of the One Ring, they've had a real dilemma on their hands for some time.

I do think that this debate was scheduled pre-convention quite intentionally to gauge just how bad Biden would perform. If he was at least sorta competent they could play Weekend at Bernie's with him for another four years. But now? Nope. He'll get ousted at the convention. Whether willingly or not.

We might question whether the kingmakers who took over the Democratic nomination process in 2020 ever wanted a competent candidate. Given President Biden's current mental state, it is highly unlikely that he is the one making the presidential decisions. If he is not, then someone else, unknown and completely unelected, is exercising that power. That someone is simply using Biden as a placeholder by which to rule the country, and probably has been since the beginning. To them, his dementia is a feature, not a bug.
