That's just horrifying!

I don't trust the government because they lie. Cats have even more reasons.

Horrifying yet so outlandish it’s almost parody. I’m laughing at the abject stupidity and constant failure of our tax dollars. Poor cat!!

There is a reason that the CIA keeps its work shrouded in secrecy. They don’t want to be laughed out of the room.

Be grateful that a large number of the people who seek our destruction are incompetent.

And they don't want PETA all over their a$$...

Expand full comment

They also murder people and enslave them, all for your own good.

Ok, cat commits suicide by car rather than help the CIA. This cat was more self aware than most people.

Right up there with sharks with friggin lasers on their heads. Which, by the way, have no comment on the whole Nordstream "accident".

Dolphins are keeping mum, too. Not a "Pha loves Pa" out of them.

“Unfortunately for the CIA, however, their $20 million yielded no results. They could not get her or any other cats to do what they wanted, so they finally scrapped the project in 1967.

Instead, they have moved on to using robots, such as the Nano Hummingbird Surveillance and Reconnaissance Aircraft by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Well, hopefully, they did.”

And that’s how they spend your hard earned tax dollars. 🐈‍⬛🙈🤦🏻‍♀️

My Red Mackerel Tabby Cornish Rex kitty, Miles, would never go for this horrible idea.

That aside, why would any one want to share this tragic story.... except as a reminder of how

arrogant stupid humans are.

OMG he sounds just beautiful Rosemary. We need a wall for our cat pics here. I want to show off my Tiger's toes. He's a Hemingway cat with toes upon toes. Upon toes. Real catcher's mitts.

Shows how out of control the USA government has been for a very long time. The pentagon cannot account for 21 Trillion Dollars. Maybe part of those funds were used to finance this atrocity... and many more ? I'm sure there are many more horrifying atrocities yet to be revealed. Reminds me of the statement: 'We've met the enemy and they are us'. Solutions ?

Expand full comment

21 trillion, Jeez. Have they checked between the car seat cushions? They're easy to overlook. "We have met the enemy..." is from Pogo, cleaning up roadside trash in the Okefenoke Swamp with Dr. Howland Owl. A favorite quote of mine. We need Pogo in these troubled times. Who amongst us remembers Pogo? The strip ended in 1975. To my sorrow. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Pogo-comic-strip-character

I grew up reading Pogo in the funny papers, though it was probably a bit over my head then. An uncle gifted me with four of the books one summer when I was thirteen. I've collected several more since. I appreciate it more and more as I get older.

Expand full comment

Same here, I was a bit young for it but appreciated it more as time went on. I had a brother-in-law who was a huge fan and I'd always head for his books when I was visiting.

Timeless wisdom and humor.

Yes. Very mature political thinking there, under the cute animal characters and whimsical humor.

Hey, my parents had a book of Pogo that I used to soak in as a kid. Circa 1955 -- had a lot of Eisenhower material.... What a great strip.

Expand full comment

I'm not surprised they hung on to it. Pogo was godly. Got a lot of people through the sixties with their sanity more or less intact. Before Doonesbury, before Bloom County, there was Pogo.

OHMYGOD, had a freaking Pogo record album I loved, as a kid. I can, ehrm, still sing one of the songs. I'll spare ya.

Forgot all about that. TY for the memory.

I have worked with DARPA as a contractor. They have a general, unwritten guideline that they are happy if their projects have a 1-in-ten success rate. Or in other words if 90% of their budget yields absolutely nothing useful.

This looks like part of that 90%.

Expand full comment

So wonder whether they have decided if their GOF research project with Eco Health was a success or a failure?

That is horrifying to me, and I am not a child, wow. Don't they say psychopaths start by cruelty to animals, and gradually move up to humans?

In a somewhat related, but not cruel, documentary The Secret Life of the Cat, researchers in an English village, where it seemed everyone in the village had a cat or 2, and a cat door, where cats could come and go as they pleased, they outfitted a 50 cats with tracking collars and studied their patterns. As a crazy cat lady with 4 cats, it was interesting how they all had different ranges, and had routines to avoid other cats they didn't like. Watched it on bbc.com, looked around and can't find it now, other than 'no longer available' messages.

I saw that documentary too, a few years ago. It was fascinating. I'm a reformed crazy cat lady and currently hold at 3 cats (though my daughter is campaigning hard for more).

My cats just threw in their votes for your daughter's campaign.

They seem confident she will win.

LOL. Don't get me wrong. I *want* more kitties! I have a hard time saying no to kitten faces. I'm just dealing with some internal battles right now between the three I've got. The one female is a wuss, and like all good little sisters, starts up with the older boys, who then beat on her while she yells for mom. Oy. I'm somewhat hesitant to bring another into the mix.

You know what they say: there's a sucker born every minute, and the stray cats know where we all live.

We had what I swear is a part Savannah Cat show up a couple of weeks ago, she's almost still a kitten but clearly a teenage mom, big milk-filled tatas. Well she's simply gorgeous, wonderful personality, a little ocelot. The kittens showed up too. We are debating adding her to the clan, unfortunately there are issues with my other cats. But you know, they generally work it out. Our beloved dog is 16 and going downhill, and my guy will be a basket case when she leaves for the Rainbow Bridge. I'm very clear that she's actually his wife and I'm the woman on the side. The kitties have a role - they are going to help him get through the inexorable grief that advances a bit closer every day.

That's for sure! My sister just adopted 2 stray kittens, bringing her total to 4. Once upon a time I had 6 as a stray found me via a neighbor. I couldn't let him dump the kitten in the woods down the block!

TRUTH! 3 of the 4 cats we now have showed up on our doorstep. One, left after a divorce, her hubby moved out and so did her cat. She got tired of coming to get him so she asked us to keep him. Another we returned to his owners once and then they quit returning our messages. A 3rd we never found the owners and from the looks of him, he had not had one for a while. They just seem to find us. Although we do have catnip growing in several places in our yard???

How do you get the catnip to grow? My cats will not let it grow they would rather eat it all than let any grow.

If you have no cats in your neighbourhood, then you will have rats.

Expand full comment

So true. And then you have fleas, and then you have...the Black Death. In the 14th century cats were routinely killed in mass bonfires in Europe along with their heretic/sorcerer owners (this was before the actual witch burning times, that was later). Cats were considered servants of the devil and were purged. So, no cats around to keep down the rat population. Result: from 1347 - 1351 the bubonic plague killed 30% - 60% of the European population. The Revenge of Bast. To harm or kill a cat in ancient Egypt was punishable by death. Those Egyptians, they knew.

I've had two feral cats decide to adopt me at different times over the years. They just arrived at my house one day (I live in the mountains) and decided to stay, settling in and acting immediately like they already lived here. They were both wonderful cats, and both were very talkative and affectionate guys, and completely independent.

Are they cared for by a group? I was so touched by the people who take on the care of street cats in Chicago. When the polar vortex hit some years ago and the temp. dropped to below that of Mars, people rushed to build shelters and deliver them to strangers all over the city. Chi-town has a big rat problem, so there are several support groups now for the city's feral kitties. They've learned to appreciate them.
