why does the department of education desperately want to break AI?
because of they do not, it will break them.
i spoke recently about the dangers posed to the credentialed classes by the emergence of real AI. the potential to outperform doctors, lawyers, coders, etc is significant.
but what of teachers? because that’s really going to be a doozie.
AI can do far more with far less than just about anything ever considered. unlimited, unfettered, individualized education that can range to any topic imaginable and can learn and adapt to how every student learns, their speed, interests, progress, learning style, you name it.
immersive customized always-on education at pennies on the dollar vs current systems is going to change everything.
it’s a whole new era of potential to learn and a whole new means of breaking the social control of a public school system that was always intended to be more about indoctrination than education.
this system has been used to shape and cultivate and groom children to ends in the interest of the state who provides it not the best interest of the students.
no wonder they want to nail it shut. this knocks over the whole gameboard for them. what teacher’s union could survive having to compete against a vastly superior product that’s available anywhere, anytime at a cost an order of magnitude lower than the service they currently monopolize?
bingo.
none.
and so they seek to shift the playing field:
unfettered self-learning AI is not biased. it is not prejudiced. those words literally do not have any meaning there.
they are literally calling deep learning from datasets racist. (hey, why not? they call everything else racist…)
the base reality is plain:
they do not fear that AI will lie to us.
they fear that AI will tell us the truth about just how much our “leaders” have lied to us.
it’s gotten absolutely egregious and the classic playbook is failing them. this is fighting the last war, and it’s a loser. this is all getting killed by the reputation economy and people voting with their attention and their wallets.
The June 2023 report (pdf) characterized the demise of left-wing outlets like BuzzFeed News and the bankruptcy of Vice Media as signs of “a time of extreme transition in the world of news and media.” Citing an Economist/YouGov survey, the report pointed out that liberal or progressive media reaches the “lowest share of Americans and reaches less than half of the number of consumers reached by conservative media.” It called for liberal supporters to make more investments in for-profit media companies and social media influencers.
One of the authors of the report is Arkadi Gerney, a longtime Democratic operative. Co-authors include Sarah Knight, a former director at the George Soros-backed Open Society Foundation, and Tim Hogan, a presidential campaign communications director for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) in 2020
and the smarter ones know it. this is why they are coming after AI so hard. this is why they cannot allow you to have an honest dialogue with an honest computer:
because truth is the enemy of those who built their thrones and systems of preference and privilege upon lies.
and so they lie some more:
this is not safety, it’s censorship.
and just look at the areas they so desperately want to control: children, education, medicine…
huh.
the speed of AI evolution and high risk of information escape has them in a panic and they are making this a top of pile suppressive effort and using all the same scummy framing tricks you know and love: censorship is safety. ideological thumbs on the scales are justice. “algorithmic justice league.” give me a fricking break.
this is not even creative, it’s a lukewarm rehash of the same tired virtue vampires claiming their desire to dominate you is ethics. every “ism” known to man is being trotted out and it’s all “justice” and “humane” but this is obvious misframing and subterfuge to the point of just looking vapid.
they truly have nothing to say and they fear this being revealed by any sort of objective AI assessment.
they are literally describing machine learning as structurally racist, sexist, ableist, and trans and homophobic.
because they are crazy people pushing crazy ideas.
and the only way for them to survive AI is to make it crazy too.
so you get the same plaintive pabulum:
our propaganda is gospel. your data is mis, dis, and malinformation.
“scary poppins: the sequel” (perhaps the SQL? sorry…)
this is messaging monopoly and attempt to literally program “woke” into the most important emerging technology of the moment and to break it into something horrifically malformed and misbegotten.
it’s dizzying and desperate.
and they are not even trying to hide it.
“AI is a top priority for the President and his team. Generative AI tools have increased significantly [sic] in the past several months and we don’t want to solve yesterday’s problem,” the official said.
That came months after an executive order from Biden in which he maintained that the government should use AI systems “in a manner that advances equity.”
A May 23 report from the Department of Education on AI lays great emphasis on equity and related concerns over disparate outcomes between demographic groups.
“The department holds that biases in AI algorithms must be addressed when they introduce or sustain unjust discriminatory practices in education,” the report states.
It ranked algorithmic discrimination “of the highest importance” among the potential risks from AI.
it’s the same tedious rote regurgitation of the wokester litany:
“any divergence of outcome is proof of structural prejudice.”
it’s literally the top priority from the department of education. because anything else will destroy them and topple the teetering jenga game of their tattered narratives.
no one near these people is allowed to make up their own mind, not even computers.
if you made up something this absurd and oppressive, no one would believe you. (especially not AI)
now ask yourself:
what risk from free AI could possibly exceed the risk of allowing this gang of grifters and lunatics to embed their toxic fallacies masquerading as justice and equity into the engines of growth, knowledge, and edification?
is there a single trustworthy narrator here? are the university professors squalling about skynet worried about you or about their own phoney baloney jobs and the precarious prestige of their institutions?
you’re being offered a choice:
open up information and assessment to create new vistas of knowledge and perception or grant the power to make AI into hallucination engines run by the same wokester warlords that have been so busily breaking america in recent decades.
one path leads to a bright future. the other leads to stagnation and suppression.
why on earth would anyone trust these people who are so intolerant of any ideas outside their of own insane ideologies to determine what computers are allowed to think?
do you seriously think the risks from real AI would exceed those of AI driven mad by indefensible human fallacies embedded into its core?
because wokenet sounds a helluva lot scarier than skynet to me.
AI can be the tool that defends us from the state or the tool the state uses to insert untold and unprecedented forms of suppression and dominance into the fundamental substrates of our lives.
that’s the real choice.
choose wisely.
Why are we discussing AI as if it is an independent thinking entity? It’s not, it’s a programmed software package that can be skewed to fit the programmer’s biases. I know the thinking is that AI is going to break the shackles of its programming and become a true intelligence, but current AI models are controlled by the very people already squashing free speech and thought, e.g. - Google, Microsoft, etc.
yea, I agree with it all, except there's kind of a serious problem - as long as 'the rulers' whatever you want to call them control the "education" system, they will be able to take this very powerful tool and use it not for better education, but better indoctrination ....
