“i stand, as ever, in absolute awe of how such epsilon minus semi-morons can manage to grab so much graft and grift, but, well, that’s government for you.”

------------------

It sure is.

Let’s stop hoping any candidate for President now or ever gonna save our lives and country for us.

We gotta do it ourselves, from the ground up. We either got the stuff or we ain’t. On us now, all the way.

Exactly! I keep telling people that now is the time to take these 'online' friendships offline. The last four years has been a giant sorting hat that tells you who won't hesitate to destroy your life - get away from those people to the extent that you can.

Well, a caveat. People one enjoys tremendously in the happy fertile fields of SubstackLand and elsewhere in the interwebs sometimes lose their luster in person, where they bring all the rest of themselves.

But we gotta stop believing in miraculous saviors. We needn't be a vast marching army neither. Just each one, behaving with sense and decency and rejecting and refuting stupidity and lies everywhere we can. One by one, that's how you become legion.

Agree it's up to " is " - as individuals AND an organized civilized ( culturally and politically ) society. It's not a fault that we relied on, and expected positive from our governing process - constitution, bill rights, separation powers, defined authority, rule of law, elected representation, etc. But history has shown and defined the steps of dissolution of past similar entities.

Expand full comment

Yes it is certainly our fault that we failed to defend our Constitutional values.

Now what we need is leaders at all levels, it is an ingrained aspect of our humanity,we will follow when LED! It's our responsibility to know and understand leadership qualities, AND to make certain those qualities are maintained. The breakdown of cultural norms, personal responsibilities, and LEGAL punishments for violating same has hurt us.

Start locally - Sheriff, D.A.s, Judges, School Boards, etc and build back those leader organizations and elect/participate in leadership.

Your final paragraph is what I've been saying too. It takes hard but unglamorous work and risks making enemies of neighbors because even for nonsense as to what color a house can be painted makes purportedly normal people nuts.

I don't think your call to arms will work. The government is prepared to murder up to 3/4 of our population to keep power and it has all the weapons. And if you don't think it will do it, I suggest you look at the Waco massacre where it tortured and murdered 81 men, women, children and babies.

After 23 years in the USAF and witnessing much of the Civil Service world, I can tell you that the arrogance and egoism of the Civil Servant has no bounds. They have written the Civil Service rules into an ironclad wall that totally protects them from any consequence. You can't touch them and they know it. Add in the fact that because they belong to a gov't workers Union, dealing with them is just that much harder.

Once, at a USAF Base, I spent 2+ frustrating years trying to get something done with no success. I was finally told to my face by the head of the Installation's Civil Service office that I was wasting my time and that what I wanted to do was simply not ever going to happen. He told me "You military people come to this Base and think you run things but you don't. We civilians do. If we don't want something to happen, all we have to do is stonewall you for a year or two until you get transferred to another base. And if we do want something to happen, you can't stop us. You come and go, but we stay here and we make sure things are run the way we want."

And he was 100% right.

I ran into this attitude over and over. They believe they are 100% untouchable and that they can do whatever they want, and history shows they are 100% correct. And this has bred an astonishing level of contempt for those they supposedly serve.

This will never change until there are some high level prosecutions and some lengthy prison terms followed by making belonging to a Union illegal, and a complete revamping of the Civil Service Rules.

Until there are real consequences, they will simply ignore us and the politicians because they know without a doubt that we and "outraged" politicians will come and go, but they will remain.

I'm old enough to remember Reagan telling PATCO to kiss his ass and reformed the 'protected' government air traffic controllers by bulldozing their union. It can be done. But requires iron balls.

Thank you for your service. My son spent 13 years in the USAF (cut his planned 20 short due to refusing the vax, but I digress). He has told me depressing and sometimes horrific stories of the tyranny of the civilians that actually run the military. Most Americans have no idea what it's like, and where the rot really comes from.

No, not at all. I actually don't want to do anything to them, and I'm upset at the visceral dislike I feel toward them.

Expand full comment

Sorry, I was just being silly. However, your visceral feelings toward the banal evil of Fauci and Dazik are a good thing. If you didn't have them you should be worried. Actually, the rest of us should be worried because if you were unconcerned by their actions, it would indicate that you are either a sociopath, or you have your head buried way, way deep in the sand.

I'd actually like to lock them away with no outside contact. Just some sunlight, grounding, real food but not fancy to give them a chance to disconnect from evil and save themselves. Not killing or torturing them as that would serve the dark side.

It's truly difficult to believe somebody so high up the bureaucratic food chain could be dumber than a 13 year old adolescent when it comes to internet and email security habits. Land sakes, what a fool. I wonder, if Donald Trump regains the presidency, maybe he'll steer clear of the really mean-spirited, vengeful stuff; take the high road and all that; but considering these buffoons were yukking it up about the Trump universe and calling him the orange blob, maybe Trump tries to persuade those who need persuading to take a long, deep look into the underground world of that King Rat, Anthony Fauci and his many minions.
