You mean the masks that prevent nuclear fallout?

https://www.ready.gov/nuclear-explosion

Go to the basement or middle of the building. Stay away from the outer walls and roof. Try to maintain a distance of at least six feet between yourself and people who are not part of your household. If possible, wear a mask if you’re sheltering with people who are not a part of your household.

Now, don't be spreading misinformation! Masks can't stop fallout or forest fire smoke. Only viruses.

AND nuclear fallout.

Survive DURING

If warned of an imminent attack, immediately get inside the nearest building and move away from windows. This will help provide protection from the blast, heat, and radiation of the detonation.

When you have reached a safe place, try to maintain a distance of at least six feet between yourself and people who are not part of your household. If possible, wear a mask if you’re sheltering with people who are not a part of your household.

Oddly enough....they are correct for a change about the masks (only n95..not surgical). The whole dangerous part of nuclear fallout is inhaling dust particles that are energized and cause cancer. That's why you see fallout suits looking just like chemical or biological suits. They of course have rung that bell so many times nobody believes them...once again...cry wolf enough times and when you really mean it...nobody listens.

Ah, good point. I was thinking of the cloth / surgical masks that they explicitly said would not work for forest fires or fallout. Of course, the guidance on that site didn't suggest using the masks to protect against fallout, nor specify the type of mask. They only reference masks in relation to COVID.

Expand full comment

Yes, they failed once again to be accurate when dispensing advice. They should be telling people what proper masks to wear instead of making it seem covid related as per the usual B.S. they spew. global warming is a fiction to tax us, co2 is at a 600 million year low

the Antarctic just had its coldest winter in recorded history

Expand full comment

Don't let facts get in the way.

Expand full comment

But! Who needs CO2!? It's not like we need it ! We're not plants, after all... ( wish there was a sarcasm font )

Expand full comment

Well.... all food comes from plants, one way or the other. Interestingly (but not surprisingly) plants thrive at CO2 concentrations higher than 300-400 ppm that we have now. High-productivity greenhouses often have CO2 injection systems, IIRC they target a concentration of 1000-1500 ppm.

'Science knows' from studies of air bubbles frozen in ice sheets and the like, that the concentration of CO2 in the not too distant past (IIRC maybe up to 100,000 years ago, i.e. since the beginning of the last ice age) that CO2 concentrations have ranged from somewhat less than they are now, maybe 200 ppm, up to 1500 ppm.

Curiously though, over that same period the temperatures on Earth have also ranged from cooler than now, to significantly warmer. There were times when the poles had lush tropical vegetation, and times when ice covered much of the surface and even at the equator high temperatures were around 10C or 50F. Surprise!! There was NO CORRELATION between CO2 concentration and temperature over that period. Seems to have had more to do with solar cycles... who'd a thunk it?

Bottom line, the atmosphere has enough CO2 in it to absorb basically all of the infrared radiation from the Earth's surface, even at 200 ppm. It might be 'logical' to think that if you double the CO2 concentration, you double the absorption. And indeed that is true, at very low concentrations where only a small amount of IR is absorbed. But if you get to let's say 200 ppm and 90% of the IR is absorbed, and then you go to 400, that results in 90% of the remaining 10% being absorbed, for a total of 99%. (You can't absorb 180%.) It's a logarithmic curve, not linear: 600 ppm, 99.9%, 800 ppm, 99.99%. You get the picture; law of diminishing returns.

But don't expect anybody who graduated from oh, let's say the Columbia School of Journalism to be able to understand any of this. They're just, you know, not that into 'science.' Only what some idiot tells them, that fits their mindset.

There is a book called 'Unstoppable Global Warming (Every 1500 Years) by Singer and Avery. It describes exactly the phenomenon you describe, and connects it to a 1500 year cycle of the Sun.

I remember an episode of a BBC show called 'Castles of Horror' which was shown on CBC and likely PBS in the USA -- mostly they went around Europe and visited old castles and told some of their history, and how they dumped burning oil and molten sulphur on enemies during combat. Fun stuff like that. Well, this one episode was about a castle in Wales (not Carnarvon Castle, but a lesser-known one) where the narrator observed the apparent contradiction of a castle built with a moat on only three sides.

Then he noted, in his dry British accent, "Well, you see, when this castle was built, the world was much warmer and wetter than it is now. The sea level was higher then than it is today, and the ocean, now fully half a mile away, in those days came all the way up to the Western rampart of the castle and filled the moat!"

IIRC the castle was built ca. 800 AD. In those days, wine grapes could be grown as far north as Hadrian's Wall, the border between Scotland and England. Then the earth started cooling. And now it is warming again... the cycles of Nature repeat. Just as the cold of winter leads to the warmth of spring and summer, Nature's other cycles also repeat. There is a ~110,000 year 'ice age' cycle with a ~100,000 year long ice age followed by a ~10,000 year warm interglacial period. We are now coming to the end of such an interglacial period.

So maybe a little global warming would be nice...

Expand full comment

Interesting, never saw that one. Probably been banned or at least edited to "correct that misinformation" of historical fact.

Observation driven science provides us with ample data the planet we call earth has never had a stable climate. Astrophysics and Geophysics explains why.

So here's your next challenge: find actual evidence that the earth as we observe it is in a warming trend again. It is widely asserted, but actual data is scarce.

Always challenge your assumptions!!

Expand full comment

Well, back when George Washington was fighting the British, the Earth was experiencing the 'Little Ice Age', perhaps correlated to the Maunder Minimum, a long period of little or no sunspot activity. This period was roughly 1300-1850. Since then, the northernmost line in Europe where winegrapes can be grown has consistently marched northward. Still not to Hadrian's Wall though, IIRC the 'line' (which is not really a line) runs through Northern France and Germany, somewhere around or a bit north of Alsace. Unfortunately I don't have ready citations to quote to you, I am working from memory.

Now the MMGW people have lots of 'data' that the Earth is warming but most of it is confounded by measurement biases, such as weather stations that used to be out in the country are now surrounded by development, which increases local temperature. (Forests are cooler than parking lots...) A significant amount of that bias is intentional -- removing stations that do not match the desired outcome for example. So their data is wildly exaggerating the medium-term warming caused by cyclical variations in the sun. Which will, alas, reverse in due time.

Surprise Biden Move Widely Applauded

In a surprise move this morning, President Biden fulfilled his campaign promise to seat a black woman on the Supreme Court by appointing Black Lives Matters founder Patrisse Cullors directly to the SCOTUS. The appointment was announced by President Biden at the swearing-in ceremony during which he also signed an Executive Order allowing him to bypass Congress in making the appointment.

Joining the President at the swearing-in of Supreme Court Justice Cullors were Senator Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi smiling broadly in a manner that signified their approval. Both received pens the President used to sign the Executive Order.

In a unanimous show of approval, every member of the Congressional Black Caucus and every U.S. Teachers Union applauded President Bidens action and agreed that this is Socially Justiciable and indeed, a blow to yet another of the Systemic Patriarchal White Supremacist Structural Barriers that Create Real-Life Privileged Marginalization and to the White Heteropatriarchy that make it necessary to implement Trauma Informed Pedagogies and Social Emotional Learning Syllabi, starting in Kindergarten, in the ongoing effort to eliminate Race Based Traumatic Stress and induce a little Prosocial Behavior among those who so desperately need it.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau again donned blackface in support of Bidens action and said, “President Bidens action is absolutely the correct thing to do, and it reinforces my opinion that the little people should just shut up and let their betters do the thinking.” He added that his only regret is that he and his Uncle Raul didn’t think of it first.

When Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy asked President Biden if Justice Cullors had any legal qualifications to be on the Supreme Court, Biden said “Hey! C’mon Man! She’s the most article 3 represented and qualified black matters..umm…up here! She is eminently supposed to do so when in the event of a course of human events and over….you know, the Thing!”

In other news, yesterday, Hunter Biden was overheard at a crack party loudly denouncing any attempt to locate the missing $60+ million that the Black Lives Matter founders scammed out of a gullible American public. He is reported to have said that he didn’t know anything about the missing Black Lives Matter money and that neither he nor his dad nor his Uncle even KNEW Patrisse Cullors and even if he DID know her, the Secret Service will not release the name of the bank.

But until someone starts lighting them off, and then waiting a few decades to see what happens, we wouldn't know for sure. Models of things that have not yet happened are strikingly likely to be wrong in multiple ways, due to errors of omission.

Just like the global warming models of the enviro bunch: you can input the data from let's say 1900 (about as far back as data exists) up to 2000, and they cannot accurately predict what should be happening now. Even though they should have the opportunity to use all of that more-recent data to update their models. It's all a farce, with manipulated data, data intentionally left out, whatever. They really don't hide it very well; they just count on most peoples' eyes glazing over. Sadly for most it works. Just trust Greta, she knows.
