AND, this is from a medical school hospital.

If they are this panicked, then how can we hope that those who rely on them for medical information to not be panicked? How do we hope to get the truth out among such people?

Now, my household family does not even think of following these measures. We participated in a 12 k hike yesterday, though my wife and kids and all other participants I saw did wear masks, I did not even put mine on at all. But I can not share any of this with anyone connected with work and am a bit concerned about my face showing up on TV unmasked. New Years is the big event over here. last New Years we gathered at the in laws as in years past, EXCEPT, masks were required until meal time. One of my brother’s-in Law and his wife did not attend out of fear of Covid. Same when my parents in law come over for my kid’s birthday. They wore their masks until we all sat down to eat. There is zero indication that this madness will ever end.

No need to excuse any expressions, I say the same and worse on an almost daily basis.

the fear and the constant feeding of it are what keeps this going...that, and the dehumanization, i would say. it makes everyone afraid of everyone else as well as the boogey man covid, which is also what makes people easy to control. i don't understand why people would so easily give in to this, but then, i don't understand a lot of why people do the things they do. mass pyschosis might be the only explanation? i feel for you, and hope you stay safe (and, i don't mean in a covid-safety bullshit manner...i think you get my drift).
