My insurance doesn't require a primary care physician. Getting my yearly blood screening, which can spot problems early, has been difficult, because when I pick a Dr. for that they all want to ask too many questions and fill out my life story on paper. When I explain I just want a blood test which they can do by getting out their prescription pad and sending me to Quest Diagnostics. I have actually been shown the door by one Dr. who took offense when he could sense my attitude which I admit (but was polite about) was comparable to someone looking to get the oil and filter changed in their car. I finally got the Dr. who did my colonoscopy to write the prescription and when the results came back to him, they never called me. After a few weeks I called them and the receptionist sent me the detailed report. I spent a lot of time and effort getting something so simple done, and had already paid for.
There are a number of online sites where you can select the blood tests you want, print it and take it to Quest. I don't have insurance here in the U.S. but the cost is very reasonable. I have used RequestAtest.com. If I see a problem in the results, I might consider a doctor, but probably a naturopath. There are other sites where you can get a prescription for common issues - uti etc.
BTW, some friends who have had cancer have nothing but praise for the care they have received in a hospital setting. I understand there are lots of dedicated specialists who have dedicated their lives to their work. I doubt you'll find that type doing primary care with a shared practice in a strip mall of Dr. offices.
"Doctors I've been to get my yearly check-up...."

Nancy Reagan was right: just say NO.
