A cogent observation. Some of this is driven by law, such as the Delaney Clause (look it up if you care). As the old saying goes, any good idea can be carried too far. Extremes of prohibition have (presumably) benefits but also often unacknowledged, ignored or simply ignored costs or other consequences. The same is true for extremes on the opposite end, probably.

Relevant the Covid-19 fiasco, it's probably safe to say that the FDA and similar medical regulators have gone quite the opposite way. Leaving deliberate malicious intent out of the argument for now, it is highly likely, if not certain, that existing regulations (including the emergency ones) were weaponized to enrich a select few (Big Pharma) and their collaborators elsewhere in corporate-government.

It's a cruel irony that, if as observers like Malone describe, the regulations have been hijacked so that life-saving but low-profit products were denied and high-profit and often harmful products and procedures were pushed on patients. The very agencies tasked with insuring the safety of medical devices instead has been co-opted into pushing highly profitable but often harmful "medicine."
