Excellent work, again. I was thinking recently about the removal of a statue of Lee in Virginia recently, in the context of Mao's Cultural Revolution, which had as one of its slogans, "Smash the Four Olds." Wipe out history rather than put it in some context. Mao used the Red Guards to reestablish political dominance that he was losing. Not sure what the goal of the people behind the US Cultural Revolution is. Rather, their goal is clear, but it continues to recede and slip away while the society embarks full force into reverse situational awareness. Learned helplessness seems to be part of the ritual in use. I've heard it called Revelation of the Method. You tell the people how you are going to screw them over, then you dare them to stop you screwing them over, then, once you've screwed them over, you point out, once again, how it is pointless to try to stop being screwed over, and then arrive at learned helplessness. No point in resisting if you are helpless, better to go along with being screwed over as it may make the screwing less painful. We are right at the end of the Empire and it takes some massive divorce from reality and causality to keep the wheels on this bus as it careens down the hill.

This captured my recent law school experience perfectly. I was a non-traditional student, in my forties with a previous career, but unlike most I did the full-time day program with all the kids fresh out of undergrad.

Our resident Woke Brigade went on the offensive at the start of 2020, producing a boilerplate "report" with the sort of perverse nonsense you describe: limiting the scope of permissible class discussions (questions are assault); mandatory sensitivity training for faculty (student as teacher); etc.

My mistake, I later realized, was responding as if they were adults with ideas.

What I realized was that they were really just junior high school "mean girls" transplanted into an adult setting. They were mostly rich white girls for whom "diversity" was purely theoretical, and likely to remain so. But it's what the cool kids are into. So their response never rose above the "how dare you" and "you just don't get it" level.

Nobody ever told them to sit down and shut up, so they thought this was how you get your way.

Granted, they may have been only a small minority of students, but they were vocal and ensconced in leadership positions in the student government and student organizations.

God help us, these kids are now clerking for judges and writing legislation and representing clients.
