"not having to constantly worry about the next panic driven authoritarian impulse from a capricious state intruding upon our lives and livelihoods because some epidemiologically illiterate health agency got the vapors." This is such a powerful statement for me. I wake many mornings and check to see if Biden has mandated something new. I just discovered our local science museum mandates masks (not mandated by city or state). Science has been killed. Its definitely the big things but also the little things that are bothering me now. I hate seeing people in their masks. It reminds me how dumb people are and that's depressing. I am so sick of society right now.

Be the smiling person going about one's business and doing what you do with joy as an example. I am trying to be. I "took over" ukulele practices and am scheduling gigs much to the Prez. of our club and other board members who are "not participating in any indoor events" - (you know because of that cold thing going around)- and THEY. HATE. ME. FOR. IT. I just asked the group if they wanted to participate in a neighborhood "battle of the bands" and the scaredy-cat (sorry!) Prez. said "Well I certainly hope this will be held outdoors"- SIT. STAY. (Dogs obey- cats do what they want to!)

Seriously terrible analogy with the dogs vs cats. Dogs literally go to war alongside us, protect us and our families, and are willing to do things we ask of them because it makes us happy. Mistaking loyalty for "obedience" is as bad as mistaking fascism for "science".

In a supermarket without a mask mandate (except for the poor vaccinated staff), there are still more masked people than not. So refreshing to round a corner to see an unmasked blonde woman with a smile - it was the smile that made the moment memorable - a normal, happy, person. If she never crosses my path again, I'll remember the smile, because so many people are not smiling, or covered altogether.

I smile broadly at those who are not wearing masks. A great thing for me this past week was attending a political fundraiser with 80+ people in a small winery and four comedians! There were two actual comedians, a funny intro guy, and the candidate himself was quite funny, too.

I've made remarks about child abuse while passing people with very young children muzzled to the eyeballs, and yelled at a masked busker to take the damn thing off in the subway earlier this week. I have spoken to several people who admit that they know masks are useless in preventing infection or transmission, *and* that they are harmful because they reduce oxygen intake, increase CO2 and have numerous other harms, but they still wear it, "just to be safe" or "because I believe there is a virus." Many are people who are activists! This mask thing isn't going away even if we manage to educate everyone about the deadly jabs. And until we get the masks off people, we'll never get out of the totalitarian fascist matrix.

But lucky me, had to renew the tag for my Jeep this month. Went to my local tag agency. Not one customer wearing a mask. Six ladies working behind the counter... and the ONLY ONE wearing a stupid mask, is the one I get! 🙄

Perhaps having the majority of the population not attend sermons with a moral bent every Sunday leads to a long-term erosion of societal duties? This feels like the most unchecked, selfish decade I've witnessed.

Can we/Will we course-correct without religion?

Expand full comment

A lot of folks seem to feel that we are on the cusp of a new awakening, renaissance, revival of interest in religion. People who are lonely, isolated, angry (as in mass formation psychosis) look for something... anything to cling to. Some find totalitarian 'saviors,' others find the real Thing. People have been turning away, in North America anyway, from religion for about 60 years now; these things always run in cycles. People I know who never had much time or thought for religion, are asking 'What's all this God stuff about, anyway?"

The answer is to witness to them. Explain how to accept Jesus into your life, and what that has meant to you and will mean to them. In times like this, I see many folks on this substack asking 'What can I do? I'm just a small cog in an immense machine?' Well, you can witness your faith to the uninitiated, and you can pray.

Prayer, each and every prayer, takes power away from Satan and delivers it to God. This is something each of us can do, every day, in ways small and large. Remember the old philosophical question about the butterfly in the forest? Well, each prayer, every moment spent in communion with God and Jesus, can be much more powerful than any butterfly's wings; yet see what the butterfly was able to accomplish. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect)

If ever the time was right, if ever the world needed it more, the time is right now. You can do this wherever you are, any time night or day.

It also helps take your mind off of the overwhelming sense of evil that has been manifest the past few years, and focus it on something positive. Prayer not only helps the one you are praying for, it helps you.

Or both. Within weeks of March 2020, all who read widely and skipped TeeVee hysteria knew that few would perish in the accurate grand count, luckily kids would be fine, testing was suspect, not much would halt progress of viral gasses, and many of us who work in the field of immunoScIEncE were deeply concerned about altering the immunological landscape through interventions...for fear of easily predictable mutations aka variants. I don’t believe we are giving enough attention to who else is back...Ezekiel Is back.

The thing they are glossing over when they talk about "going back to the way we were" is the jab mandates. And vax passports.

This whole thing started with a fear-mongering fest, with videos & news out of China, then Italy, to the point where we all accepted lockdowns.

Once we accepted lockdowns, everything else (restrictions) was easy: "we are doing this so we don't have to have another lockdown (or extend our lockdown, or make it worse)."

From quite early in 2020 - before even there was (supposedly) any vax developed, and with all the quite pertinent reservations about the difficulties of developing a vax for a coronavirus - the message was: "the vaksines will save us."

This seems to have been the main goal of all the restrictions - to get people to accept mandatory jabs and vax passports (and digital ID and a cashless society with a social credit system - but those have not been rolled out to us yet).

So that we can "go back to normal".

But the Klaus Schwabs of this world have been telling us there is no going back to the old normal, and the "normal" we are heading for is a "new normal".

So maybe I am being a tad over-cynical, but I am inclined to be a little bit cautious about celebrating too early...

The UK is lifting its mandates as well.

Looks like I might have to move to Denmark. Only 8 hrs drive for me.

It's my understanding, though, from reading other articles...that the only reason Denmark is doing this is because of their allegedly high vaxxed rate (82%). Ditto Sweden. So ...ok, whatever. Damage already done, for the most part.

Elon Musk is a maniacal douchebag. Just sayin'

My maternal Danish ancestors would be proud. If I had time, I’d whip up some Æbleskiver in celebration.

I’m curious if anyone who knows Danish cuisine has ever heard of Finca? My great-grandmother used to get a hankering for this Danish delicacy about once a year. It was an all-day ordeal and likely involved pork guts. The “stink was awesome” and filled the entire neighborhood, my grandma said. All the kids ran out of the house yelling, “Finca!” to escape the stench and stayed as far away as possible until the cooking was over.

This little ripple in a pond is turning into a veritable, and wholly "Unacceptable" (thanks Blackface Trudope) tsunami. Keep on Truckin'!

They did this once before and brought back the restrictions weeks later, so I'm not TOO hopeful.

Sweden is pushing vaxx passports though! That's odd.

My understanding is that an election put some loonies in charge, and that's when the vaccine passports came into play. Sad.

We have elections this year, last time was in sep 2018. What happened fall of 2021 was that the prime minister and leader of the ruling socialist party resigned, being more despised and ridiculed than Canada's Trudeau, thus necessatating the riksdag (parliament) to approve of his successor as prime minister (this is very simplified, it was a whole passle of a hassle of technicalities even the nonpartisan speakers had trouble straightening out.

The business with vaccine passes is... weird. The enforcement is completely arbitrary it seems, and most people and places seem to just shrug and make token efforts to be seen as complying. It's especially obvious in the migrant ghettoes since the police have to walk on tiptoes there, both because of the migrant gangs who are armed with AK-47s and hand grenades, and the liberal media who is armed with politicians and the "Racist!"-branding iron. Ain't no quicker way to end your career than being called racist by someone connected politically, facts not withstanding.

"rationalnuggets" comment on this country being schizofrenic is sadly spot on.

You have to be kidding me. Going along with 75% of the stalanist tactics rather than embracing them whole-heartedly is not praise-worthy. Yes others were worse but so what?

Good for the JCVI, they are apparently somewhat less corrupt than the FDA and CDC, but lets keep things in perspective.
