trusting "the scientists" on "the science"

fox commission fails to find evidence of vulpine involvement in henhouse murders

show me the stakeholders and tell me the stakes, and i’ll paint you a portrait of how they will behave.

it’s a pretty simple maxim and one that holds in more or less all fields of human endeavor. it’s a pretty story to speak of science as the realm of noble explorers bravely seeking new truths and following the data withersoever it shall lead while fearlessly reporting the jewels of knowledge they have unearthed, but we all know that’s not true.

you cannot trust people whose lives and careers on are on the line to police themselves, especially people whose morality was dubious from the start. you might as well invite the tobacco companies determine the dangers of smoking. you’ll just get ream upon ream of frank and florid dissembling.

yet this seems to be how we have handled inquiries into the covid origin story. we went to the very “experts” whose fat was in the fire and asked them what we should think of them because “science.”

this has served us poorly.

science is the realm of scientists and their labs run on money and reputation. you need the reputation to get the money and to attract the best and brightest to come and play in your sandbox with you. you need to money to live well, make the sandbox run, and to do the work you want to do.

this is not a recipe for dispassionate truth-telling, it’s incentive for peacock-like self promotion, claims of knowledge beyond the true extent of ones kingdom, and above all else, hidden failures for while success is so often possessed of many purported fathers, failure is always an orphan and a destitute one at that.

so if you screw up royally in a fashion that will bring your whole field of endeavor into such global disrepute that no one will ever give you another red cent and that will ruin the careers and reputations of all involved and literally close off your whole field of study for a generation, well it’s possible you might lie to try to prevent it and it’s possible that your peers and funding sources might be not just willing but desperate to help you do it.

gain of function research is not research that the private sector has a ton of use for. they are generally looking to cure diseases, not make them more lethal. there’s no money in that. GoF is predominantly the realm of governments and militaries and their scientific camp followers and outsourced investigators. the ecosystem of labs and agencies, non-profits and non-attributable cutouts all centers there. it is a captive industry and a controversial one. that’s because gain of function research can be exquisitely dangerous.

fauci has always been a fan of this work despite the risks. he has said so publicly many times and was a chief advocate of getting the US back into the GoF game after its temporary ban. and he was FAR from alone.

longtime fauci pal zoologist peter daszak has been hoovering up pentagon money for years to fund all manner of virus hotwiring to make them more dangerous. this has been known for a LONG time as was his direct funding of GoF on bat coronaviruses at the wuhan institute of virology, the very place from which covid-19 may have escaped.

and yet somehow, this most compromised of individuals, the literal GoF bagman for the NIH and US military who was helping them do in China things that may have been too dodgy to do under the more stringent regulations here at home, became the one who everyone trusted to assess covid origins. how nice it is to have powerful pals whose necks are all on the line right next to yours…

Sachs is a former special advisor to the UN, the former head of the Millennium Villages Project, and was recently appointed Chair of the newly-formed EAT Lancet Commission on the pandemic. In September, Sachs’ commission named Daszak to head up its committee on the pandemic’s origins. Daszak is also on the WHO’s committee to investigate the pandemic’s origin. He is the only individual on both committees. “

this is like appointing jesse james to head the stagecoach commission.

and it started right from the jump, because everyone knew.

this was a setup so obvious (no, really, just an odd coincidence this disease happened to originate right in the city that was Doing GoF research on diseases exactly like this) and a set of stakeholders so guilty looking that even allowing it to be discussed was intolerable. but these stakeholders were also incredibly powerful and so they gaslighted the hell out of everyone, because sure as sunrise, that’s what powerful people with powerful friends do when their whole lives are on the line.

it’s clear that noted liar to congress tony f. knew all this from the start. he knew about the funding, he knew about the research, and he knew about the risks and the very real possibility that this virus was enhanced. emails prove it and the scramble for calls to sort this out and “tasks for you to accomplish today” described to underlings right before the vast fusillade of gaslight grenades cast across the media-sphere reek of cover up. fauci got on message instantly: this is a conspiracy theory.

and daszak was right behind him calling the response “brave” in personal e-mails to tony and orchestrating, behind the scenes, some science to wave around and help. he and 27 other “experts” most of whose hands were just as dirty as his own and whose livelihoods and careers would be similarly destroyed by a revelation of viral escape causing millions of deaths, authored a PIECE in “the lancet” that among other claims said this: (emphasis mine)

The rapid, open, and transparent sharing of data on this outbreak is now being threatened by rumours and misinformation around its origins. We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin. Scientists from multiple countries have published and analysed genomes of the causative agent, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2),  and they overwhelmingly conclude that this coronavirus originated in wildlife This is further supported by a letter from the presidents of the US National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine and by the scientific communities they represent. Conspiracy theories do nothing but create fear, rumours, and prejudice that jeopardise our global collaboration in the fight against this virus. We support the call from the Director-General of WHO to promote scientific evidence and unity over misinformation and conjecture.  We want you, the science and health professionals of China, to know that we stand with you in your fight against this virus.

heady stuff and noble sentiment, but utterly lacking in the facts it purports to share. it’s misdirection and many of us saw this instantly. it contains an avalanche of footnotes and cites, but none prove anything. they establish that the virus was of bat origin, but that was never in question. we knew that. the question is “was it modified?” and there is absolutely nothing in this florid statement to address that issue or the concerns raised by US viral researcher kristian anderson directly to fauci that:

“The problem is that our phylogenetic analyses aren't able to answer whether the sequences are unusual at individual residues, except if they are completely off.

'The unusual features of the virus make up a really small part of the genome (<0.1%) so one has to look really closely at all the sequences to see that some of the features (potentially) look engineered.'

Andersen also noted that he and others 'all find the genome inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory' but added that 'there are still further analyses to be done, so those opinions could still change.”

and they did not stop there. the NIH and it’s cronies wanted to be the only voice speaking and the only sleuth looking.

everyone with any skin in the game pivoted with the sort of precision that comes from having your butt truly in the wind and being captive to folks in charge who are going to push and permit one and only one narrative. get on message or get hung out to dry.

the speed with which ranks closed and this idea was swept under the rug and replaced with a unified front of gaslighting, ad hominem, and outright propaganda would have been the envy of many a spartan phalanx. and it was done with planning and malice aforethought. (source)

“During Daszak’s efforts to arrange the Lancet statement, he reportedly emailed two scientists, including Dr. Ralph Baric of the University of North Carolina, who’d worked with the lead coronavirus researcher at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, located at the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.

Daszak told the scientists that they “should not sign this statement, so it has some distance from us and therefore doesn’t work in a counterproductive way,” Vanity Fair said, citing emails obtained by the group US Right to Know.

“We’ll then put it out in a way that doesn’t link it back to our collaboration so we maximize an independent voice,” Daszak reportedly added.”

this is not truth seeking, this is truth occlusion.

this is not accountability, it’s a concerted effort to lie, mislead, and hide the ties that lead back to a set of scientists and powerful patrons who may have been dabbling in danger and coloring outside the lines.

it is the flat out and deliberate conspiracy to paint any who call that conspiracy by name “conspiracy theorists” and to smear and damage them.

full marks for brazenness, but 0 for honesty. alinsky would applaud.

it’s really that simple.

• this has been a conspiracy to prevent investigation into the issue of covid origin.

• it was enabled and incentivized by the confluence of interests stemming from a controversial field of endeavor that is going to be literally ended if they turn out to have caused this

• and it was organized and abetted by powerful people and patrons who got everyone on message and saying the exact same thing in a matter of days.

it sought to gaslight foes, close down lines of reasonable inquiry, and tar any who disagreed with accusations of conspiracy to keep their own out of view.

it sought to use appeals to credentialism from experts to spare experts from scrutiny and accountability.

it took the accused and put them in the jury box for their own trial.

can anyone have seriously doubted the impending verdict?

and now it’s all unraveling. it’s become rear-guard action to try to save what they can. do not let them. it’s time to dig and dig and dig some more and get all the way to the bottom of this. this was a psyop, a propogandistic putsch from the halls of power and the health officials that ran it sought to lie to the american people to save their own tainted hides.

we may never know for sure where the covid origins lie. the evidence may always be circumstantial and china is not likely to be forthcoming if this looks bad for them. they’ve had 18 months to cover up such mess as existed. but we can see what was done to us by our alleged officials and their experts and how they went to war against us to hide the truth.

even if there was no crime, the cover up alone is reason enough to have many of these people in the dock. the rot here goes deep and the incentives for it will remain unless we dig it out root and stem. demand an accounting. if this gets swept under the rug, it’s just going to happen again.
