Operation Paperclip - not just the rocket and science guys; lots of intelligence, psych warfare specialists as well. I have heard it as: "The Nazis didn't lose, they just changed sides". What's the difference? Fascism - couple different flavors - was the ideology of the 1930s. And still is.

In diving a little deeper it becomes clear as to which American families and American businesses actually aided Hitler in his rise to power and the carnage his regime heaped on some Germans and the Jews. Not all is as innocent as history has portrayed.

There were ordinary Americans and "American families" allied with the National Socialists and their goals; (e.g. from the above account: "...the Silver Shirt Legion, run by an eccentric...") but there is also a long standing effort to use that history to obscure the very substantial contributions made by American corporations and the encouragement of US government officials - not an eccentric to be found among such! You can find FDR cabinet members openly praising NS - mostly economic - policies in a wistful if-only-we-could-do-the-same way. Plenty of covering for and minimizing of NS Jewish policies to be found as well in that strata.
